The Ressence Type 3BBB was a one-year, monochrome evolution of the Type 3B and Type 3BB, introduced on January 20, 2022. Its black DLC-coated titanium case and dial, pared-back white and grey indications, green lume, and removal of the running-seconds indicator made it the most visually restrained version of the Type 3 at launch. Calling it Ressence’s “best” model is a matter of taste: the design gains visual simplicity, but the available evidence does not establish an objective winner.
What is the Ressence Type 3BBB?
The Type 3BBB is a variant of Ressence’s oil-filled Type 3 watch. Its name stands for “Black, Black, Black,” referring to the black-on-black treatment. Ressence introduced it on January 20, 2022, as a continuation of the Type 3B and Type 3BB lineage. The launch report described a production period of one year, ending December 31, 2022.
The design pairs a black dial and polished black DLC-coated Grade 5 titanium case with white and light-grey indications. Engraved dial markings are filled with green Super-LumiNova. Compared with the preceding Type 3B/3BB treatment, the Type 3BBB removes the running-seconds indicator and changes the lume color from blue to green, reducing the amount of information on the display.
How does its oil-filled display work?
Ressence’s Type 3 architecture separates the watch into two sealed chambers. The upper chamber contains oil and the ROCS display; the lower, air-filled chamber contains the base calibre. Ressence says oil and glass respond similarly to refraction, reducing the apparent boundary between the dial and crystal. The result is a display that appears close to the crystal, which the brand says improves perceived legibility.

For the Type 3 family, Ressence says the watch is filled and sealed at −5°C, when the oil is at its minimum volume. The 2022 launch report also describes micro-magnets transferring motion between the chambers and seven small bellows accommodating changes in oil volume. Those construction details are reported by the launch publication, rather than independently verified here.
Ressence replaces conventional hands with rotating discs. The Type 3BBB’s appearance is unusual, but its display concept is shared with the wider Type 3 family; the BBB distinction is principally its finish, color scheme, and simplified indications.

These specifications and the launch price were published by Revolution Watch in its 2022 Type 3BBB launch report. The CHF 36,500 figure is a historical, pre-tax launch price—not a current asking price, resale estimate, or confirmed present-day value.
Is the Type 3BBB the best Ressence Type 3?
“Best” depends on what a wearer values. The Type 3BBB makes a strong case for visual restraint: the dark case and dial, reduced color palette, green lume, and deleted seconds indicator give it a more unified, less information-dense appearance. Its 44 × 15 mm case, 30 m water resistance, oil-filled display, and 36-hour power reserve are the launch-reported practical specifications to weigh alongside that design.

Those details do not establish that it is objectively superior to other Type 3 models. The oil-filled display is a family feature, while black DLC finishing and the simplified indications are the BBB’s distinguishing choices. A later release is not automatically an improvement, either: Ressence’s official press archive lists Type 3 B & W releases in 2024 and Type 3 MN in 2025, providing chronology rather than a ranking.

The reported launch price was CHF 36,500 before tax. The launch report said production would end on December 31, 2022; current stock, current asking prices, and resale values have not been established. Treat it as a discontinued release unless a seller can confirm that a specific example is available. For a pre-owned watch, verify the exact model, condition, seller, service history, and dated price rather than assuming a listing reflects the original specification or current market value.
What to know about Ressence beyond this model
Ressence says its watches are designed and engineered in Antwerp, Belgium, then produced and assembled in Fleurier, Switzerland. The company also says each completed watch undergoes its R500H examination, described as 500 hours across six criteria. That is the brand’s account of its own testing, not a claim of independent certification.
