Richard Mille says this arrangement avoids prolonged contact between the rotor’s sliding flange and the winding system in a conventional arrangement. That is the manufacturer’s explanation of the mechanism, not an independently measured comparison of wear or performance.
The movement also displays hours, minutes, seconds, an oversized date, and power reserve. Its semi-instantaneous oversized date sits at 4 o’clock. A push-button at 2 o’clock selects winding, date setting, or hand setting; an indicator at 3 o’clock shows the selected function.
