The Richard Mille RM 50-04 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Kimi Räikkönen is a 2019 limited edition of 30 watches, pairing a manual-winding tourbillon and split-seconds chronograph with a maker-stated 7-gram movement. Its white, carbon and red design draws on Räikkönen’s 2019 Alfa Romeo Racing context. The defining appeal is the combination of elaborate timing functions, lightweight construction and a specific racing association—not a price that can be treated as current market value.
What the RM 50-04 does
Richard Mille’s historical model record dates the RM 50-04 to 2019 and names its movement calibre RM50-03. It is manually wound and combines a tourbillon with a split-seconds chronograph, allowing the chronograph to time an intermediate event while the main chronograph hand continues running.
The listed functions are:
- Hours and minutes
- Split-seconds chronograph
- 30-minute totaliser
- Power-reserve indicator
- Torque indicator
- Function indicator
The function indicator communicates the selected operating mode; the model description lists winding, hand-setting and neutral functions. The tourbillon is part of the movement architecture, not an additional timing function.
How light is it, and what are its materials?
Richard Mille states that the grade-5 titanium and Carbon TPT movement weighs 7 grams. That is the maker’s stated movement weight, not the weight of the complete watch. The case combines a Carbon TPT middle with a white Quartz TPT bezel and case back.

Richard Mille describes the white Quartz TPT material as 600 layers of silicon, each 45 microns thick, impregnated with a white matrix and heated to 120 °C in an autoclave. The layered composite gives the watch its white surface and distinctive patterned appearance alongside the carbon case material.
The brand also says the material combination was tested in-house with impacts of 5,000 g. This figure is Richard Mille’s own test claim; the cited model record is not an independent test report and does not establish how every individual watch will perform in use.

What ties the design to Kimi Räikkönen?
The red accents and oversized 7 connect the watch visually to Räikkönen’s 2019 Alfa Romeo Racing association. Hodinkee’s launch coverage links the red details to the team and identifies the 7 with his car number. Sotheby’s later catalogue description makes the same connection for its specific watch lot.
The association is therefore more specific than a generic motorsport theme: the color scheme and numeral refer to Räikkönen’s racing context at the time of the watch’s launch. The available sources do not include a suitable verbatim comment from Räikkönen about the watch, so there is no personal quotation to add.

Dimensions and launch-era specifications
Hodinkee’s September 19, 2019 launch report gives the following specifications. They describe the model as reported at launch, not the measured condition of any particular example.

The case dimensions indicate a substantial watch, particularly in thickness. A prospective buyer should still assess fit on the wrist in person, since dimensions alone do not establish how a shaped case wears.

Edition size and the meaning of the price figures
Richard Mille identifies the RM 50-04 as limited to 30 pieces. The two published price figures often associated with it are from different dates and represent different things:

The Sotheby’s catalogue page for that 2025 lot is marked closed, but the reviewed listing displays a login prompt rather than a result. It therefore supports reporting the estimate, not claiming what the watch sold for. Neither figure establishes current availability or present value.

What to check before buying a pre-owned example
A rare, complicated watch calls for scrutiny of the individual piece rather than reliance on its model specifications or an auction estimate. Request documentation and an inspection from a qualified specialist before committing.
- Provenance: Review available ownership and transaction records, and confirm that the watch’s identity and paperwork correspond.
- Condition: Have the case, crystal, dial, hands and movement assessed. Ask what work has been done and when.
- Service history: Seek records from a qualified service provider and clarify whether service is currently recommended.
- Operation: Confirm that the winding, time-setting and chronograph functions work as expected during a specialist inspection.
- Sale terms: Read the seller’s guarantees, exclusions and return conditions rather than assuming they match those of another seller.
Sotheby’s 2025 notice for its particular lot said the movement had not been tested for timekeeping accuracy and might require service at the buyer’s expense. It also said the auction house did not guarantee future movement operation or the authenticity of individual components, and that the lot was sold as-is under its sale conditions. Those cautions apply to that catalogue listing; they are not a condition report for every RM 50-04.
Why the RM 50-04 stands out
The RM 50-04 brings together a 30-piece edition, an intricate manual-winding movement, a lightweight construction claim and a design tied to a defined racing moment. Its distinction is the way those elements converge: the split-seconds chronograph and tourbillon supply mechanical complexity, while the white Quartz TPT, carbon and red palette make the Räikkönen connection legible. Its launch price and a later auction estimate document two dated reference points, not a reliable statement of what an example is worth today.
