What the Rolex “Sprite” actually is
Rolex officially names the watch the GMT-Master II. Use the full reference when shopping or checking a listing, because “Sprite” is an informal nickname used by collectors and watch media. The base reference is 126720VTNR; the final digits identify the bracelet configuration.

The watch has a 40 mm Oystersteel case, black dial, and a bidirectional green-and-black 24-hour bezel made from Rolex Cerachrom ceramic. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal covers the dial, with Rolex’s Cyclops lens over the date. The screw-down Triplock crown and case provide water resistance to 100 metres (330 feet).
Why it is called “Sprite”
The nickname refers to the green-and-black bezel colors. It does not appear in Rolex’s product title, and Rolex does not market the watch as a Sprite. The most reliable identification is therefore the reference 126720VTNR together with the left-side crown and green-and-black bezel.

Is the Sprite left-handed?
Yes. The winding crown and crown guards are on the left side of the case, while the date aperture and Cyclops lens sit at 9 o’clock. Rolex introduced this left-crown, green-and-black Oystersteel configuration in 2022. The layout is designed for wearers who prefer the crown away from the back of the hand, but the watch can be worn on either wrist.
How the GMT-Master II works for travel
The arrow-tipped 24-hour hand shows a reference or “home” time against the bezel. The conventional hour hand can be moved independently in one-hour jumps, forward or backward, while the minute and seconds hands continue running. That lets a traveler set local time without stopping or resetting the watch’s other time indication.

Inside is Rolex calibre 3285, an automatic movement with approximately 70 hours of power reserve. Rolex states a precision of −2/+2 seconds per day after casing and identifies the watch as a Superlative Chronometer. Those figures are manufacturer specifications rather than independent test results.
Sprite bracelet references: Oyster vs Jubilee
Rolex sells the 126720VTNR with either an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet. The movement, case orientation, bezel and travel-time functions are the same; the bracelet and listed US price differ.

Sprite history in the GMT-Master line
Rolex says the original GMT-Master launched in 1955 as a navigation aid for professionals crossing the globe. The green-and-black ceramic bezel arrived in 2022 on the left-crown Oystersteel GMT-Master II, creating the configuration now widely called the Sprite.

How to identify a genuine 126720VTNR listing
- Reference: confirm 126720VTNR, with -0001 for Oyster or -0002 for Jubilee.
- Case layout: the crown and crown guards should be at 9 o’clock, and the date should appear at 9 o’clock.
- Bezel: look for the green-and-black, bidirectional 24-hour Cerachrom insert.
- Core specifications: 40 mm Oystersteel case, sapphire crystal with Cyclops lens and 100 m water resistance.
- Seller: Rolex says official Rolex retailers sell and maintain its watches. For current pricing, availability, authenticity checks and servicing, use your regional Rolex site or an official retailer.
What “Sprite” does—and does not—tell you
The nickname identifies the colorway and unusual left-side architecture; it does not indicate a separate movement, case size or complication. Every 126720VTNR variant remains a GMT-Master II with an independently adjustable local hour hand and a second-time-zone display. Bracelet choice is the principal factory distinction between the -0001 and -0002 references.
