What defines the platinum Perpetual 1908?
Rolex’s current US product listing identifies the watch as reference 52506. Its polished platinum case measures 39 mm across and has a domed, fluted bezel, a domed crown and a domed transparent caseback with anti-reflective coating. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial. Rolex specifies water resistance to 50 metres (165 feet). Rolex’s reference 52506 listing is the source for these specifications.
What makes the ice-blue dial distinctive?
The dial’s central motif is a three-dimensional, repeating guilloché rice-grain pattern that spreads outward from the small-seconds counter at 6 o’clock. A separately guilloché, crimped border—the filet sauté—frames the minute track. The pattern gives the dial texture while leaving its principal indications clear.
Rolex calls guillochage “engine turning” and describes it as a technique that uses a turning tool to sculpt a pattern into a surface. The face combines that decoration with Arabic numerals at 3, 9 and 12, faceted hour markers, central hour and minute hands, and the small-seconds display. Rolex says the hands are also used on the 18 ct gold versions. It describes this ice-blue color as appearing only on the Day-Date, Cosmograph Daytona, Perpetual 1908 and Land-Dweller; that is the manufacturer’s current product-page statement, not a promise that the range will remain unchanged.

Movement, precision and power reserve
Inside is Rolex calibre 7140, a mechanical self-winding movement with bidirectional winding and stop-seconds. Rolex specifies a Syloxi silicon hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, with central hours and minutes and small seconds at 6 o’clock. The listed power reserve is approximately 66 hours.
Rolex states precision of “-2/+2 sec/day, after casing” and identifies the watch as a Superlative Chronometer. The company describes this as official chronometer certification followed by Rolex certification after casing. These are manufacturer specifications; they are not independent timing-test results for an individual watch. Rolex Newsroom says calibre 7140 was developed and manufactured by Rolex, released for the 1908’s 2023 launch, and made exclusive to the model. Strap and clasp: keep the variants straight
Reference 52506 is fitted with a matt black alligator-leather strap and a platinum double-folding Dualclasp, according to Rolex. It is not the Settimo-bracelet configuration. Rolex introduced the Settimo bracelet in its 2025 announcement on an 18 ct yellow-gold Perpetual 1908 with an intense white dial. The bracelet belongs to that version; it should not be attributed to this platinum reference.

How the 1908 fits into Rolex’s collection
Rolex launched the Perpetual 1908 collection in 2023 as a contemporary interpretation of traditional watchmaking style. The company says the design draws inspiration from one of its early watches fitted with the Perpetual rotor. The name refers to 1908, the year Hans Wilsdorf devised and registered the Rolex name in Switzerland. The collection’s transparent caseback, classic numeral layout and detailed dial decoration distinguish its approach from a tool-watch presentation. Rolex’s listed US price
Rolex’s US product page displayed a price of $33,600 USD when retrieved on October 8, 2026. That is a time- and market-specific listing, not a global or guaranteed price; check the official listing for the current figure. Rolex says only official Rolex jewelers are allowed to sell and maintain its watches, so buyers should verify a seller’s authorization directly.
