What do their bezels and timing functions do?
Submariner: track elapsed time
The Submariner’s unidirectional bezel has 60-minute graduations. Aligning its marker with the minute hand lets the wearer read elapsed time against the bezel. Rolex says the graduations are intended to help divers monitor diving time and decompression stops. That function does not make the watch a substitute for dive planning or a dive computer.

Daytona: time an event and estimate average speed
The Daytona’s chronograph includes a central seconds hand, a 30-minute counter and a 12-hour counter. Its fixed tachymetric scale is designed to calculate average speed over a known distance using elapsed time. Rolex describes the scale as a way “to read average speed over a given distance based on elapsed time.”
Which one fits your priorities?
Choose the Submariner 124060 if you prefer
- A straightforward, time-only dial without a date window.
- A rotating bezel for marking elapsed time.
- The higher manufacturer-stated water-resistance rating of these two references.
Choose the Daytona 126500LN if you prefer
- A chronograph for timing intervals.
- A tachymetric scale for estimating average speed over a known distance.
- A 40 mm case and a dial with more timing information.
Both watches are self-winding mechanical models. The Submariner’s listed power reserve is approximately 70 hours; the Daytona reference uses calibre 4131. Rolex’s product pages provide the Submariner movement details and Daytona specifications.

How should you compare size and fit?
The nominal diameter difference is just 1 mm: 41 mm for the Submariner and 40 mm for the Daytona. That figure alone cannot tell you which will feel better. Wrist shape, bracelet adjustment and personal preference affect fit, so try both on if possible rather than choosing by diameter alone.

The 124060 is the no-date Submariner. The Submariner Date is a separate option if a date window matters. Rolex’s US collection listing showed Oystersteel 41 mm Submariner Date entries at $11,350 and $11,900, compared with $10,050 for the no-date 124060, when checked October 12, 2026. Those are displayed US list prices for listed variants, not guaranteed sale prices or availability; confirm the exact reference and current listing on the Submariner collection page.
