The Galaxy Buds4 Pro may be Samsung’s most complete wireless earbuds yet, but they are not automatically the best choice for everyone. At $249.99 in the US, they combine a redesigned blade-style body, two-way speakers, adaptive noise cancellation, improved calling and Samsung-specific features. Their strongest advantage appears when they are paired with a recent Galaxy phone; on an iPhone, PC or older Android handset, much of the appeal disappears.
Price, release date and positioning
Samsung announced the Galaxy Buds4 Pro on February 25, 2026. The US starting price is $249.99, although Samsung promotions, bundles and regional availability can change. The model is Samsung’s premium alternative to the standard Galaxy Buds4 and the previous-generation Buds3 Pro.

They make the most sense for owners of a recent Samsung Galaxy phone who want Samsung’s codec, device integration and calling features. iPhone users should generally begin with AirPods Pro 3, while buyers who simply want good Bluetooth earbuds may not benefit from paying for the Pro model.

What is new over the Galaxy Buds3 Pro?
A more distinctive design
The Buds4 Pro replace the Buds3 Pro’s look with a metal-look construction and a new blade-style stem. The stems make the earbuds visually more recognizable and provide a natural area for touch or pinch controls. Samsung also says the shape has been refined for all-day comfort.
Early hands-on coverage describes the earbuds as comfortable and the redesigned case as attractive and easy to use. The transparent or clear-look case uses magnetic docking, but its smooth exterior may feel slippery and can show fingerprints or wear more readily than an opaque case. Fit remains personal: a shape that relieves pressure for one listener may create pressure points for another. Ear-tip seal, ear size, glasses and movement all matter.
Two-way audio hardware
Each earbud uses a two-way speaker system with a separate woofer and tweeter, plus dual amplifiers. That is a more substantial hardware change than a cosmetic refresh and gives Samsung a clearer route to stronger bass, cleaner vocals and more controlled treble.

The Buds4 Pro also support Samsung Seamless Codec audio up to 24-bit/96 kHz when paired with compatible Galaxy hardware and software. This is not a universal Bluetooth capability. It requires the right Galaxy phone, software version and supported application, and it cannot make a low-quality recording or stream sound magically better.
Sound: promising, but not proven universally superior
Samsung positions the Buds4 Pro as fuller, more detailed and higher-resolution than before. Early impressions point toward a warm, mainstream-friendly presentation with substantial bass, clear vocals and noticeable high-frequency detail.
Rank #2
- Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): Blocks out unwanted background noise so you can focus on music, calls, or podcasts
- True Wireless Convenience: Enjoy tangle-free Bluetooth connectivity for seamless listening on the go.
- Intuitive Touch Controls: Easily manage calls, adjust volume, and control playback without reaching for your phone.
- International Model without Domestic Warranty: The Galaxy Buds 4 Pro SM-R640 are an International Version and do not include a local warranty. Optimized for Android, particularly Samsung Galaxy devices, they offer advanced features such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), 360 Audio, Hi-Fi sound, and real-time AI-based audio enhancements. While fully compatible with iOS devices via Bluetooth, certain features like ANC customization and 360 Audio are exclusive to Galaxy Android devices.
That description is more useful than calling them objectively “the best-sounding” earbuds. Sound depends on the ear-tip seal, personal hearing, source material, codec and tuning preference. Listeners who prefer a neutral or highly analytical presentation may favor Sony or another competitor.
The 24-bit/96-kHz specification is technically notable, but it should be treated as part of a complete chain: a compatible Galaxy device, the required Samsung software, app support, a suitable source and a proper fit. Ordinary streaming use will not necessarily reveal a dramatic difference.
ANC, Ambient mode and automatic detection
The Buds4 Pro add Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation. Samsung also includes two automatic listening features:
- Voice Detect reduces ANC and moves toward Ambient mode when it detects that you are speaking.
- Siren Detect is designed to switch toward Ambient mode when an emergency siren is detected.
These are useful conveniences, not guaranteed safety systems. Voice Detect or Siren Detect may fail to recognize a sound, trigger at the wrong time or behave differently in a busy environment. Anyone walking near traffic or working around hazards should deliberately monitor their surroundings rather than rely on automatic detection.
A launch hands-on can establish that these features exist and provide an initial impression of their behavior. It cannot establish whether ANC consistently outperforms Sony or Bose on aircraft, buses, offices, wind and household noise. Nor can a short demonstration show whether Voice Detect triggers accidentally when humming, coughing or speaking briefly.

Calling improvements
Samsung adds Super Clear Call, Super Wideband calling and Deep Neural Network noise reduction. The company claims clearer speech in noisy environments. Super Wideband availability can depend on the connected Galaxy device, carrier, calling service and network.

These specifications suggest that frequent callers have a meaningful reason to consider the Buds4 Pro, particularly if they already use a compatible Galaxy phone. However, manufacturer processing claims are not the same as independent voice testing. Wind, traffic, crowded rooms and microphone placement will determine whether the improvement matters in daily use.
Compatibility: the most important buying question
Samsung’s feature-compatibility document separates Galaxy devices from other Android hardware and generic Bluetooth hosts. The practical picture is:
| Device | Expected experience |
|---|---|
| Recent Samsung Galaxy phone | Fullest access to Samsung Seamless Codec, high-resolution audio, Wearable controls, Find support and compatible calling or intelligence features. |
| Other Android phone | Bluetooth audio and some Galaxy Wearable functions, with advanced features depending on the phone and software. |
| iPhone | Usable as Bluetooth earbuds, but not feature-equivalent to AirPods integration; Samsung-specific functions should not be assumed. |
| Windows PC | Basic Bluetooth audio and microphone use where supported; advanced Samsung features are not guaranteed. |
| Game console | Generally basic Bluetooth functionality if the console supports the required connection. |
Do not buy these earbuds primarily for 24-bit/96-kHz audio if your main device is an iPhone, PC or older Android phone. The advertised feature set is real, but access is platform-dependent.
Battery and durability
Samsung rates the Buds4 Pro for up to approximately 4.5 hours of talk time with ANC enabled and up to 20 hours total with the case and ANC enabled. These are manufacturer “up to” figures, not guaranteed music-playback results. Codec choice, volume, calls, adaptive features and high-resolution mode can change endurance.

- True Wireless Convenience: Enjoy tangle-free Bluetooth connectivity for seamless listening on the go.
- Intuitive Touch Controls: Easily manage calls, adjust volume, and control playback without reaching for your phone.
- Call Features: With enhanced Super Wideband (SWB) microphones and AI-based noise reduction, the Buds 4 Pro improve call clarity by filtering out surrounding noise and reconstructing lost voice bits, ensuring clear and uninterrupted communication even in noisy environments.Water & Sweat Resistance: These earbuds are IPX7-rated for water resistance, making them more suitable for workouts and outdoor use in varying weather conditions.
- International Model without Domestic Warranty: The Galaxy Buds 4 Pro SM-R640 are an International Version and do not include a local warranty. A full assessment would need separate playback measurements with ANC on and off, case endurance, charging speed, wireless-charging behavior and independent-earbud use. A short hands-on cannot establish long-term battery performance or degradation.
The earbuds carry an IP57 rating. Samsung describes this as protection against dust and immersion in up to 3 feet of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. That does not make them waterproof or suitable for swimming. Salt water, chlorinated water, soap and high-pressure spray are different exposures, and the charging case should not automatically be assumed to share the earbuds’ rating.
Galaxy Buds4 Pro versus Galaxy Buds3 Pro
The upgrade is most convincing if you want the new fit, stronger water resistance, improved calls, newer Galaxy features or the two-way speaker architecture. It is also easier to justify if Samsung offers a substantial trade-in or preorder discount.
Buds3 Pro owners who already like their sound, ANC and fit should be more cautious. At full price, the Buds4 Pro must deliver a noticeable personal benefit—not merely a longer specification sheet. If discounted Buds3 Pro remain comfortable and reliable, they may offer better value.
Galaxy Buds4 versus Buds4 Pro
The Pro model’s premium is aimed at people who specifically want two-way speakers, dual amplifiers, more advanced ANC, premium construction and IP57 protection. The standard Buds4 may be the better purchase for casual listening, older or non-Samsung phones, or anyone who can buy them substantially cheaper.

How they compare with the main alternatives
Apple AirPods Pro 3
Apple lists AirPods Pro 3 at $249 in the US and offers the strongest integration for iPhone, iPad and Mac users, including features such as Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode and supported Live Translation functions. Android users will not receive the equivalent ecosystem experience. Check Apple’s current price and compatibility requirements.
Sony WF-1000XM6
Sony’s WF-1000XM6 is a direct premium rival, with a reported US launch price around $329. It is a logical alternative for listeners who prioritize Sony’s processing and customization ecosystem rather than Samsung integration. Promotions may change the gap. See Sony’s specifications.

Bose’s second-generation Ultra earbuds target buyers who place noise cancellation, comfort and Bose’s sound profile first. The reported price is around $299. Bose says the newer model adds updated adaptive noise cancellation and improved voice pickup. See Bose’s current product information.
Value-oriented Android alternatives
Models such as the OnePlus Buds Pro 3 can be worth considering when price matters more than Samsung integration. Prices and availability vary, so compare the current offer rather than relying on launch pricing.
Who should buy the Galaxy Buds4 Pro?
- Recent Galaxy owner: Buy now if you value Samsung integration, calls, high-resolution playback and the new fit.
- Older Galaxy owner: Check the compatibility document before paying for features your phone may not support.
- iPhone owner: Start with AirPods Pro 3 unless the Samsung design is specifically appealing.
- Buds3 Pro owner: Upgrade for fit, calls, IP57 protection or newer Galaxy functions; otherwise wait for a discount.
- Frequent traveler: Treat the Buds4 Pro as a promising option, but do not assume class-leading ANC without independent comparative testing.
- Frequent caller: Super Wideband and noise reduction make them especially interesting on compatible Galaxy hardware.
- Gym user: IP57 is useful for sweat and accidental fresh-water exposure, but not for swimming.
- Codec-focused audiophile: Consider the complete source-and-device chain, not just the 24-bit/96-kHz number.
Hands-on verdict
The Galaxy Buds4 Pro answer “How could you want anything more?” with an unusually complete feature set, not with proof that every rival has been beaten. Samsung has improved the hardware, fit concept, calling ambitions, water resistance and Galaxy integration. The result looks like a strong flagship for recent Galaxy-phone owners.
At $249.99, however, the choice depends on priorities. Buy them now if you want Samsung’s fullest earbud experience and the new design suits your ears. Wait for a sale if you already own Buds3 Pro and have no complaint to solve. Choose AirPods Pro 3 for Apple integration, or investigate Sony and Bose if absolute ANC or a different sound and customization approach matters more.
