Buy the Samsung Galaxy Ring if you use a compatible Android phone—especially a Samsung Galaxy—and want Samsung Health integration without an Oura-style membership. Choose the Oura Ring Gen 3 if you use an iPhone, want broader platform support, or value Oura’s mature sleep, readiness, stress, and recovery experience.
There is an important catch: this is now a current-versus-legacy comparison. Samsung still sells the Galaxy Ring, while Oura’s retail pages focus on newer generations. Gen 3 makes the most sense as an existing, refurbished, discounted, or second-hand ring—not as an automatic alternative to a new Oura model.

The short answer
| If you… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Use an iPhone | Oura Ring Gen 3 |
| Own a Samsung Galaxy phone | Samsung Galaxy Ring |
| Want to avoid recurring fees | Samsung Galaxy Ring |
| Prioritize Oura’s sleep and recovery ecosystem | Oura Ring Gen 3 |
| Are buying used | Gen 3 only if its battery, account status, charger, and return policy are verified |
| Want a new Oura product | Compare the current Oura generation, not only Gen 3 |
The Galaxy Ring is the better value for a new Samsung-oriented buyer. The Gen 3 is the more versatile platform, but its subscription and aging battery make the purchase worthwhile only at a meaningful discount.

Is this still a fair comparison in 2026?
Not completely. Samsung’s US purchase page lists the Galaxy Ring at $399.99, while Oura’s current retail pages center on the Oura Ring 4 and newer Oura products. Oura still documents Gen 3 in its support materials, including charging and battery guidance, so Gen 3 remains relevant mainly to existing owners and buyers finding clearance or used stock.
#1 Best Overall
- THE WORLD’S SMALLEST SMART RING - 40% smaller than the previous generation, Oura Ring 5 is thinner, lighter and smaller than ever. The updated all-titanium design is more scratch-resistant and comfortable than ever
- SIZING IS ESSENTIAL - Oura Ring 5 uses unique sizing different from standard jewelry rings and other Oura Ring generations; use the Oura Ring 5 Sizing Kit to find your perfect fit before purchasing
- EVERYDAY HEALTH SENSING - Oura tracks over 50 health metrics, including sleep, activity, stress, heart health, metabolic health and women’s health metrics. Oura seamlessly integrates with over 40 apps including Natural Cycles, Strava, & more
- OURA MEMBERSHIP - First month of membership is included with purchase, for new members only. Subscription is 5.99/mo afterwards. Membership is tied to your account via the Oura App, not your physical ring
- REBUILT FOR GREATER ACCURACY - Oura Ring 5 has been re-engineered and reconfigured, providing more precise personal health data. Larger, smarter sensors bring research-grade accuracy—all in Oura’s smallest form factor yet
Do not interpret this as “Samsung’s current ring versus Oura’s current ring.” If you are buying a new Oura, compare the Galaxy Ring with the current Oura generation as well.
Price, membership, and two-year cost
Galaxy Ring
The Galaxy Ring costs $399.99 in the cited Samsung US listing. Samsung does not require an Oura-style membership for the core Samsung Health experience. Some functions can still depend on a compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung account, Samsung Health, cloud services, or regional availability.
Oura Ring Gen 3
Oura’s US membership price shown on its current product page is $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year before tax. Without membership, a Gen 3 has limited functionality and does not deliver the full layer of detailed insights and personalized guidance. Verify the membership terms for any specific used or refurbished purchase; do not assume it includes a free promotional period.

Over two years, two annual memberships add approximately $139.98 before tax to the cost of the ring. A discounted Gen 3 can still be cheaper upfront, but the calculation changes if its older battery, missing charger, uncertain warranty, or limited return rights force an earlier replacement.
Phone compatibility: the first decision
| Galaxy Ring | Oura Ring Gen 3 | |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Not supported as a normal buying option | iOS 16 or later |
| Android | Android 11 or later with more than 1.5GB of memory | Android 11 or later with Google Play services |
| Connectivity | Bluetooth Low Energy 5.4 | Bluetooth 5.0-compatible phone required |
| Best ecosystem fit | Samsung Galaxy and Samsung Health | iPhone, mixed-platform households, and broad integrations |
Samsung’s published specifications support Android 11 or later, but compatibility is not the same as a complete feature set. Energy Score, Wellness Tips, cycle-related functions, and some AI features require combinations of a compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung Health, and a Samsung account. Before buying for a non-Samsung Android phone, check both whether the ring can connect and whether the advertised features you want are available.
Oura Gen 3 is the obvious choice for iPhone owners. It also works with Android and supports a wider platform mix through integrations such as Apple Health, Health Connect, Strava, and Natural Cycles.
Health, sleep, and recovery features
Where Oura is strongest
Oura’s documented experience is built heavily around sleep and recovery. Its current product information highlights Sleep Score, sleep-stage analysis, Readiness Score, activity and recovery guidance, Daytime Stress, Resilience, Cumulative Stress, heart-rate variability, temperature trends, cycle insights, blood-oxygen sensing, and breathing-disturbance information.

It does not prove that Oura Gen 3 is universally more accurate than the Galaxy Ring; the supplied evidence does not establish a current, independently controlled head-to-head accuracy winner.
Where Galaxy Ring is strongest
The Galaxy Ring feeds data into Samsung Health and offers sleep and activity tracking, Energy Score, Wellness Tips, automatic walking and running detection, cycle tracking, and—when used with a compatible phone—snore detection. Galaxy users also get ecosystem features such as Find My Ring and double-pinch controls for taking a photo or dismissing an alarm.

What neither ring is
Neither device is a replacement for a GPS sports watch. Rings are best for passive wellness, sleep, and trend data. If you need live workout screens, GPS routes, detailed training metrics, or navigation, use a smartwatch or dedicated fitness watch.
Recommended Free Tools
Neither ring should be treated as a diagnostic device. Blood-oxygen, breathing, heart-rate, temperature, cycle, and fertility-related features are wellness information, not a diagnosis, medical-grade measurement, or guaranteed contraceptive protection.
Hardware, comfort, and sizing
| Specification | Galaxy Ring | Oura Ring Gen 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Titanium | Gen 3-specific details should be verified with the listing |
| Dimensions | Approximately 7.0mm × 2.6mm | Do not substitute current Oura Ring 4 specifications |
| Weight | 2.3–3.0g, depending on size | Varies by Gen 3 model and size |
| Sizes | 5–13 | Confirm the exact used or refurbished size |
| Water resistance | 10ATM and IP68, subject to Samsung’s limitations | Verify condition and model-specific guidance |
| Sensors | Accelerometer, PPG, and skin-temperature sensor | Verify the exact Gen 3 configuration with Oura documentation |
Samsung lists the Galaxy Ring as lighter than many smart rings, at 2.3–3.0g depending on size. It comes in Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gold.
Do not assume Samsung and Oura sizes match. Samsung recommends wearing its sizing sample for at least 24 hours because fingers expand and contract during the day and night. That advice is especially important when changing brands or buying a ring that cannot be returned.
Battery life and charging
| Galaxy Ring | Oura Ring Gen 3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Advertised maximum | Up to seven days for larger sizes; up to six days for smaller sizes | Up to seven days |
| Charging | Portable 361mAh charging case included | Size-specific charging dock |
| Battery caveat | Results vary with size and use | Age, settings, activity, features, and use affect results |
On paper, the battery claims are similar. In practice, a new Galaxy Ring should not be compared with a three-year-old Gen 3 as though both batteries were equally healthy. Samsung lists ring batteries from 18mAh to 23.5mAh depending on size. Oura says actual Gen 3 battery life varies with ring size, settings, activity, usage, and battery age.

App and ecosystem differences
Choose Galaxy Ring if you already live in Samsung Health
- You own a Samsung Galaxy phone or Galaxy Watch.
- You want ring and watch data in one health platform.
- You value Find My Ring and gesture controls.
- You prefer not to pay an ongoing Oura membership.
- You are comfortable with Samsung account and device requirements.
Choose Oura Gen 3 for platform flexibility
- You use an iPhone.
- You want Apple Health, Health Connect, Strava, Natural Cycles, or other Oura integrations.
- You prefer a platform-neutral ring.
- You value Oura’s established sleep, readiness, stress, and recovery framework.
The central trade-off is not simply “subscription versus no subscription.” It is Samsung Health’s hardware and account ecosystem versus Oura’s paid insight layer and broader phone compatibility.

- Battery condition: Ask how long it lasts overnight and request recent evidence.
- Exact size and model: Confirm the size, finish, and whether it is genuinely Gen 3.
- Charger: Make sure the size-specific dock is included and works.
- Account transfer: The seller should properly reset and unpair the ring.
- Replacement history: Oura’s setup documentation warns that some replacement rings may be permanently disabled or ineligible for another replacement.
- Warranty and returns: Verify both in writing rather than relying on a marketplace headline.
- Membership: Confirm what, if anything, is included; do not assume a used ring carries a free trial.
Do not buy a used Gen 3 at nearly the price of a new Galaxy Ring. The discount must compensate for battery degradation, uncertain support, possible account restrictions, and weaker buyer protection.
Which should you buy?
For iPhone users
Buy the Oura Ring Gen 3 if you find a well-priced unit with a healthy battery, or compare the Galaxy Ring with a current Oura model if you are buying new. The Galaxy Ring is not the practical choice for an iPhone owner.
For Samsung Galaxy users
Buy the Galaxy Ring. Samsung Health integration, Galaxy-device features, the included charging case, and the lack of an Oura-style membership make it the more coherent purchase.
For non-Samsung Android users
The Galaxy Ring may connect if your phone meets Samsung’s Android and memory requirements, but investigate feature restrictions first. Choose Oura Gen 3 if cross-platform integrations and Oura’s sleep and recovery presentation matter more than avoiding membership fees.
For existing Oura Gen 3 owners
Keep the Gen 3 if its battery remains acceptable and you are satisfied with the app. Switch to Galaxy Ring only if you are moving into Samsung’s ecosystem and specifically want its no-membership model and device integration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor subscription-averse buyers
Choose the Galaxy Ring, provided you use a compatible Android phone. Oura’s full Gen 3 experience depends on membership, so a cheap ring can become less attractive over two years.
Before you buy a new Oura
If your goal is a new Oura rather than a bargain Gen 3, also compare the current model shown on Oura’s retail page. Gen 3 should be judged as an older purchase whose price, battery condition, warranty, and return rights are decisive—not as Oura’s current flagship.
Other subscription-free smart rings exist, including RingConn, Ultrahuman Ring, and Circular. Their exact current prices, generations, availability, and support terms should be checked before purchase.
