Samsung confirmed on November 19, 2024, that the stable One UI 6 Watch update would reach the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro. The rollout began with the Galaxy Watch6 series and then expanded to older watches in stages, so November 19 was the announcement date—not a promise that every Watch5 received the update that day. In 2026, One UI 6 Watch is an earlier release; check your watch’s installed version before expecting it as a new update.
Was One UI 6 Watch a stable release for the Galaxy Watch5?
Yes. Samsung’s November 19, 2024 announcement described a wider rollout of One UI 6 Watch and listed both the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro as compatible. This was a public software rollout, not merely a beta announcement.
Samsung said the Galaxy Watch6 series would receive the update first, followed by older generations sequentially. Availability could therefore differ by date, country, carrier, watch model and paired phone. Galaxy Watch5 40mm and 44mm models, the Watch5 Pro, and Bluetooth and LTE variants may not receive identical firmware packages at the same time.
What operating-system upgrade did it bring?
One UI 6 Watch brought compatible previous-generation watches from Wear OS 4 to Wear OS 5, with Samsung’s One UI watch interface layered over the operating system. One UI 6 Watch is the name of Samsung’s watch software experience; it is not the phone version of One UI 6.

Samsung’s firmware history records the One UI 6 Watch upgrade in a November 28, 2024 entry for a Galaxy Watch6 variant. That page is not a Galaxy Watch5 firmware record, so its build details should not be treated as the Watch5 build number. Watch5 firmware identifiers vary by model, region and connectivity variant.
As of August 2026, Samsung’s update history also documents later watch software, including One UI 8 Watch on supported devices. The Watch5 may already be running a release newer than One UI 6 Watch; its available version depends on its specific model and rollout history.
What changed on the Galaxy Watch5?
Health, Energy Score and sleep insights
One UI 6 Watch added Energy Score, which uses health measures including sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate and heart-rate variability to provide a wellness-oriented summary. Samsung also described more detailed sleep analysis, with information such as movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate, alongside personalized health recommendations powered by Galaxy AI. These tools are not a substitute for medical diagnosis. Samsung’s sleep-apnea feature is available only on supported devices and in authorized markets; availability of health functions can also depend on the watch, paired phone, carrier and region. Galaxy AI features may require a compatible Galaxy phone.

Workout tools
Race lets runners and cyclists compare a current effort with a previous performance on the same route. Workout Routine lets users combine exercises into a customized sequence. The update also expanded workout and progress information, though feature support can vary across models and markets.
Gestures and everyday controls
Double pinch adds a hands-free way to perform actions such as answering calls, dismissing alarms, scrolling notifications, controlling music or taking pictures. Samsung also listed expanded Universal Gestures, faster movement through notifications and tiles, and an ongoing-activity view for items such as calls, workouts and music.

Suggested replies and some connected-device functions depend on compatible phones. Samsung’s update notes tie certain features to phones running One UI 6.1.1 or later and compatible Galaxy AI support.
Watch faces and interface
The update added watch faces including Simple Digital, Spatial Number and Ultra Info Board, alongside redesigned buttons, toggles and tile graphics and a refreshed default font. Samsung’s firmware notes also describe improved watch-face discovery and categorization.
Power and system conveniences
More granular power-saving controls can limit some health features. Other listed changes include automatic power-on while charging when enabled, automatic connection to paired Bluetooth audio devices in supported situations, and more direct calendar and notification controls. Samsung’s update notes describe software features, not a universal battery-life improvement; results can vary with settings and use.

How to check for and install the update
Samsung provides two update routes. The watch must remain paired with a compatible smartphone even when you start the check from the watch itself.
From the Galaxy Wearable app
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the paired phone.
- Tap Watch settings.
- Tap Watch software update.
- Tap Download and install.
From the watch
- Open Settings on the watch.
- Swipe up to Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
These menu paths come from Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch support guide. Menu wording can vary slightly with software version or region.
Before starting
- Charge the watch sufficiently and keep it near the phone if using Galaxy Wearable.
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection where possible, and keep the phone and watch connected through download and installation.
- Install available updates for Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health.
- Allow time for the watch to restart and finish optimizing. Avoid starting just before a trip, workout or overnight sleep session.
- For a major update, verify that your backup and account synchronization are current; do not assume every setting or third-party app state will be preserved.
Why might the update not appear?
Samsung’s rollout was staged, and it says availability can vary by market, carrier, model and paired smartphone. LTE and Bluetooth versions may follow different schedules, and an imported or carrier-branded watch can follow its original sales region’s rollout. The watch may also already have a later version.

Other practical causes include an outdated companion app or phone, low battery, or insufficient storage. If no update is offered, work through these checks:
- Restart both the watch and paired phone.
- Update Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health from the phone’s app store.
- Confirm the watch is connected in Galaxy Wearable, then check again.
- Check both the phone-app route and the on-watch route above.
- Confirm the exact watch model and whether it is a Bluetooth or LTE variant; imported models may follow a different regional schedule.
- If the staged update is not available yet, wait for Samsung’s rollout rather than attempting firmware for another model or region.
- If downloads repeatedly fail to install, contact Samsung support.
Unofficial firmware flashing is not a safe general workaround: using the wrong region or carrier package can cause software, warranty or device-function problems.
What Watch5 owners should expect in 2026
Samsung’s security-update scope lists the Galaxy Watch5 40mm, Watch5 44mm and Watch5 Pro separately among models receiving quarterly wearable security updates. The list is subject to change and does not guarantee that every model or region receives each release on the same date. Check Samsung’s security update scope and the device-specific update history for your watch.
One UI 6 Watch adds useful health, fitness and interface tools without requiring a new watch, but it does not make the Watch5 equivalent to a Watch7 or Watch Ultra. Feature availability depends on the market, carrier, model, phone and—in the case of some health functions—regional authorization. If you already own a Watch5 that is in good condition, check its current software and update path before deciding whether newer hardware is necessary.
