Samsung Galaxy Watch8: Price, Specs, New Features, Watch8 Classic and More

The Galaxy Watch8 is a capable but no-longer-current Samsung smartwatch. Here are the U.S. prices, exact 40mm, 44mm and Classic differences, health-feature limitations, compatibility requirements and advice on whether it is worth buying in 2026.
Estimate17–21 min Catalogued SpecialistWatchRanker Team

The Galaxy Watch8 is a previous-generation Samsung smartwatch that is worth buying mainly when discounted. The standard Watch8 is the better value and comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes; the Watch8 Classic costs more for its stainless-steel case, physical rotating bezel, Quick Button and 64GB of storage. Choose LTE only if you genuinely need calls, messages, music or navigation away from your phone and are prepared to pay for a compatible cellular plan.

In the U.S., MSRP ranges from $349.99 to $429.99 for the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE versions of the standard Watch8, and from $499.99 to $549.99 for the 46mm Classic. Samsung announced the series on July 9, 2025, with U.S. retail availability beginning July 25, 2025. Those are list prices, not necessarily what you should pay today.

As of August 9, 2026, Samsung’s newer mainstream watches are the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, announced on July 22, 2026. That makes the Watch8 a discount proposition rather than Samsung’s latest default choice. It is also a poor fit for iPhone owners, people who need multi-day battery life, divers, or buyers who expect every health feature to work with a non-Samsung Android phone.

Galaxy Watch8 price and availability

The Galaxy Watch8 launched in the United States on July 25, 2025. Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP file lists six configurations:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Model Connectivity U.S. MSRP
Galaxy Watch8 40mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi $349.99
Galaxy Watch8 40mm LTE $399.99
Galaxy Watch8 44mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi $379.99
Galaxy Watch8 44mm LTE $429.99
Galaxy Watch8 Classic 46mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi $499.99
Galaxy Watch8 Classic 46mm LTE $549.99

Check the Samsung MSRP file when comparing offers. Samsung, carriers and retailers may show a lower promotional price after a trade-in, bundle discount or temporary sale. Treat those as effective transaction prices, not a permanent MSRP. A Watch8 that costs almost the same as a newer Watch9 is much less compelling than one sold at a substantial discount.

Galaxy Watch8 versus Watch8 Classic

The Classic is not merely a larger version of the regular Watch8. It has a stainless-steel case, a physical rotating bezel, an additional Quick Button, twice the storage and a different band attachment system. Its health sensors and processor are fundamentally the same, however, so the premium is primarily for construction, controls and storage rather than a superior health platform.

Difference Galaxy Watch8 Galaxy Watch8 Classic
Sizes 40mm and 44mm 46mm only
Case Armor Aluminum Stainless steel
Weight without band 30g at 40mm; 34g at 44mm 63.5g

U.S. MSRP range $349.99–$429.99 $499.99–$549.99

At list price, the Classic is $120 more than the comparable 44mm standard model in either connectivity version, or $150 more than the 40mm standard model. The display-size trade-off is easy to miss: the 46mm Classic has the same 1.34-inch screen as the 40mm Watch8, while the 44mm aluminum Watch8 has the largest display at 1.47 inches.

What is new on the Galaxy Watch8?

A redesigned cushion-shaped case and Dynamic Lug System

Samsung moved the Watch8 family to a rounded-square cushion case design and introduced the Dynamic Lug System. The lugs are intended to let the watch sit more naturally on the wrist and maintain sensor contact as the wrist moves. Samsung reports improved comfort and stability in its own internal testing, including claims of 12% greater comfort and 8% improved stability; those are Samsung’s test claims, not independently established measurements.

The standard Watch8 is 8.6mm thick. Samsung also markets that slimness as its thinnest Galaxy Watch, subject to the comparison basis Samsung uses. The Classic is substantially thicker at 10.6mm and heavier because of its steel case and rotating bezel.

Brighter display, newer processor and more storage

All three sizes use a full-color Always-On Super AMOLED display with peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. The processor is the five-core, 3nm Exynos W1000. The regular models have 32GB of storage, while the Classic has 64GB—useful if you keep music, podcasts, maps or apps on the watch.

Compared with the Galaxy Watch7, the standard Watch8 batteries increase from 300mAh to 325mAh at 40mm and from 425mAh to 435mAh at 44mm. That does not turn the watch into a multi-day device, because Samsung’s stated maximum remains up to 30 hours with the Always-On Display enabled.

Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch and Gemini

The Watch8 launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. Samsung also introduced Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load tracking, Running Coach and the Antioxidant Index with this generation. Google Gemini can answer questions, send quick replies, control music and perform some cross-app tasks.

A feature that debuts on Watch8 is not necessarily permanently exclusive to it. Samsung may bring some Watch8 software features to older Galaxy Watch models through updates, while hardware-dependent capabilities and regional Health Monitor functions can remain restricted. Check Samsung’s support documentation for the specific watch, phone, software version and country before buying for one feature.

Health and fitness features explained

Both Watch8 versions share the same core health platform. Depending on region, phone and software, that platform includes heart-rate monitoring, sleep stages, blood oxygen during sleep, sleep consistency, Sleep Coaching, Sleep Animal profiles, Energy Score, stress tracking and high-stress alerts, body composition through bioelectrical impedance analysis, ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, sleep-apnea risk detection, cycle tracking, Running Coach, personalized heart-rate zones, cycling Functional Threshold Power, Vascular Load, Antioxidant Index, AGEs Index, fall detection and SOS.

These features do not all have the same regulatory status. Some are wellness estimates, some are software features that require a Samsung Galaxy phone, and the sleep-apnea feature has a narrower FDA-authorized purpose than the phrase medical-grade watch might imply.

Sleep tracking, Sleep Coaching and Bedtime Guidance

The watch tracks sleep duration, stages and consistency, then uses Samsung Health to provide Sleep Coaching and related interpretations. Bedtime Guidance analyzes recorded sleep and circadian-rhythm information to recommend a bedtime window. It needs three consecutive nights of data and an optimal wake-up time.

Samsung’s setup path is:

  1. Open Samsung Health on the watch or connected phone.
  2. Tap Sleep.
  3. On the phone, open the three-dot menu.
  4. Tap Bedtime guidance.
  5. Enable Bedtime notifications if you want reminders.

Bedtime Guidance is a wellness recommendation. It is not a diagnosis or treatment for insomnia, circadian-rhythm disorders or another sleep condition.

Sleep-apnea risk detection: what the FDA authorization actually means

Samsung’s Sleep Apnea Feature received FDA De Novo authorization as an over-the-counter software device to assess the risk of sleep apnea. The authorized use is to detect signs of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults aged 22 or older who have not previously been diagnosed, using monitoring over two nights. See the FDA De Novo classification letter and FDA De Novo database record.

That does not mean the Galaxy Watch8 independently diagnoses sleep apnea, acts as a clinical apnea monitor or replaces a sleep study. It is not intended for someone who already has a diagnosis, and a concerning result should be discussed with a qualified clinician. Availability also varies by country and requires compatible Samsung Health Monitor hardware and software.

Vascular Load

Vascular Load tracks changes in cardiovascular strain during sleep against a personal baseline. It should not be read as a blood-pressure reading, a direct arterial-stiffness measurement or a cardiovascular diagnosis.

Samsung says the feature requires three nights of sleep data completed within a 14-day period, with at least four continuous hours of wear each night. Like other Samsung wellness metrics, it is best used to observe trends rather than make medical decisions.

Running Coach

Running Coach builds a personalized plan after an initial outdoor-running assessment. Samsung specifies at least 12 minutes of running with GPS enabled for that assessment.

To set it up on the watch:

  1. Open the app drawer.
  2. Open Samsung Health.
  3. Scroll to Running coach.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. Accept the terms on the connected phone and enter the requested profile information.
  6. Tap Start on watch and complete the running test.

It is a guided training feature, not a substitute for a coach or a clinical exercise assessment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Antioxidant Index

The Antioxidant Index uses the watch’s sensor and the user’s thumb to estimate skin carotenoid levels. Samsung says the reading takes about five seconds and returns a score from 0 to 100, grouped into Adequate, Low and Very low categories.

It is not a direct measurement of how many antioxidants you consume, your overall diet, disease risk or biological age. Samsung calls the feature a wellness estimate and has marketed it as the first smartwatch Antioxidant Index; that is a Samsung marketing claim, not an independently certified industry distinction.

AGES Index

Samsung’s AGEs Index is intended to provide lifestyle-related metabolic-health insight by tracking advanced glycation end-products. It is available on Galaxy Watch7 and later models, so it is not a permanent Watch8 hardware exclusive. Samsung requires Samsung Health version 6.27 or later and a Samsung account.

ECG, heart-rhythm notifications and blood pressure

ECG and Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification are Samsung Health Monitor features with country, phone and software restrictions. They are not a reason to assume that every Android user receives the same functionality. A watch reading is not a replacement for medical evaluation or an emergency response.

Blood pressure is now a regional and phased feature in the U.S. Samsung began a phased rollout for select Galaxy users on March 31, 2026. The Watch8 qualifies as a compatible Wear OS 4-or-later watch, but access still requires a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 12 or later, an upper-arm cuff blood-pressure monitor and Samsung’s setup process.

Initial calibration requires three cuff measurements within 30 minutes. Recalibration is required every 28 days. Samsung describes the feature as wellness functionality, not a tool to diagnose or treat hypertension. Some older Samsung support pages still say blood-pressure monitoring is unavailable in the U.S.; the newer March 2026 rollout announcement and current calibration instructions supersede that older wording, while availability remains selective rather than universal.

Body composition, cycle tracking and safety features

Body composition uses bioelectrical impedance analysis to estimate body metrics, while cycle tracking can help record menstrual-cycle information. Neither should be treated as a clinical diagnosis. Fall detection and SOS can provide useful safety functions, but they depend on settings, connectivity and the circumstances of an incident; do not assume they guarantee emergency assistance in every location.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Compatibility and phone requirements

Android phones

The Watch8 is an Android smartwatch, but there are two different compatibility questions: can it pair with a phone, and can every Samsung feature work after pairing?

  • Samsung’s U.S. product pages specify compatible Galaxy smartphones running Android 12 or later.
  • Samsung’s broader specifications describe Android 12 or later phones with more than 1.5GB of memory.
  • Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health are required.
  • Activation requires a smartphone that supports Google Mobile Services.
  • ECG, Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification, sleep-apnea features and blood-pressure monitoring require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone through Samsung Health Monitor.

In practical terms, core watch pairing may work with a compatible non-Samsung Android phone, but a Samsung Galaxy phone is the safer choice if you are buying the Watch8 for its complete health feature set. Compatibility can vary by country, phone model, carrier and software version. Samsung documents the Health Monitor restrictions on its compatibility support page.

iPhone

The Galaxy Watch8 does not work with an iPhone. It requires Android for setup, and Samsung Health Monitor is not available on iOS. iPhone owners should look at an Apple Watch or another watch explicitly supporting iOS rather than buying the Watch8 expecting limited cross-platform support.

What LTE adds

LTE enables calls, messages, music streaming and navigation when the watch is away from the paired phone. The watch must initially be paired with an eligible Android smartphone, and LTE requires a separate compatible wireless plan. The carrier must support the specific watch model and relevant services.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

LTE is not a guarantee that every app becomes fully independent. Standalone functions, roaming, emergency behavior and carrier support vary. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models can connect through a known Wi-Fi network for some services, but they do not provide the same phone-free cellular capability as LTE.

Choose LTE if you regularly run, travel or leave your phone behind and will use those capabilities often. Otherwise, the additional purchase price and recurring plan cost are difficult to justify.

Gemini requirements

Gemini on the watch can answer questions, send quick replies, control music and handle some cross-app tasks. Google requires an Android-connected watch running Wear OS 4 or later, Gemini set as the digital assistant on the connected phone, a supported language and region, and an internet connection for many functions. Availability also depends on the Google account and software version. See Google’s smartwatch Gemini requirements.

Battery life and charging

Samsung claims up to 30 hours with the Always-On Display enabled for the 40mm, 44mm and Classic models. That is a manufacturer estimate under specified conditions, not a promise of typical use. GPS workouts, LTE, music playback, high screen brightness, sleep tracking and AOD can all shorten runtime.

Independent testing gives a more practical picture. TechRadar described the standard Watch8 as roughly a one-day watch and recorded almost two hours for a full charge in its test. Android Authority obtained approximately a day and a half from the Classic in one test with AOD enabled, but noted that a GPS run with podcast playback drained it much faster. The same review measured about 50% charge in 30 minutes and approximately 75 minutes for a full charge. These are individual review results rather than a standardized battery benchmark; see the TechRadar test and Android Authority Classic test.

The 44mm Watch8 has the best battery capacity among the regular models at 435mAh. The Classic is close at 445mAh, but its larger, heavier case does not produce a guaranteed advantage. The 40mm’s 325mAh battery is the compromise for a smaller, lighter watch.

Charging uses Samsung’s included WPC-based wireless charger. Do not assume that a recent Galaxy phone can charge the Watch8 on its back: Samsung says Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch8 models are not compatible with Wireless PowerShare. The relevant Samsung charging support page explains the limitation.

Is the Galaxy Watch8 Classic’s rotating bezel worth the premium?

For the right buyer, yes. The physical bezel lets you scroll through tiles, notifications, lists and menus by turning a ring around the display. It is more precise than repeated swiping on a small screen and can be easier to use while exercising or wearing gloves. It also gives the Classic a traditional-watch control that no standard Watch8 offers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

But the bezel does not come with a fundamentally different processor or health system. You are paying for tactile navigation, stainless steel, the Quick Button, 64GB of storage and the Classic’s traditional styling. Reviewers at Android Authority and Android Central identify the bezel as the model’s defining advantage.

Consider the trade-offs before buying:

  • At 63.5g without a band, the Classic is almost twice the weight of the 44mm aluminum Watch8 and may feel bulky on a smaller wrist.
  • Its 1.34-inch display is smaller than the 44mm Watch8’s 1.47-inch panel despite the Classic’s 46mm case.
  • The Classic’s 64GB storage is useful for offline audio and apps, but 32GB is enough for many users.
  • The Dynamic Lug System changes the band-attachment experience. Reviewers report that standard 20mm bands from older Galaxy Watch models may not fit the Classic’s proprietary attachment system. Do not assume every Watch4, Watch5, Watch6 Classic or third-party band will work; verify the exact band and adapter before purchase.

Buy the Classic when the rotating bezel is the deciding feature. Choose the 44mm standard Watch8 when you primarily want the largest display, lower weight and better value.

Which Galaxy Watch8 should you buy?

Your priority Best choice Why
Lowest sensible price Watch8 44mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi It offers the largest display and 435mAh battery without Classic pricing.
Smallest and lightest option Watch8 40mm Its 30g case is easier to wear on a smaller wrist, though the screen and battery are smaller.
Physical controls and traditional styling Watch8 Classic 46mm The rotating bezel, steel case and Quick Button are unique to the Classic.
Phone-free calls and streaming LTE version of the model you prefer It supports cellular connectivity with a compatible carrier plan, adding recurring cost.
Longest battery life Reconsider the Watch8 category Even Samsung’s claim is up to 30 hours with AOD on; GPS, LTE and audio can reduce that significantly.

Choose the standard Watch8 if…

  • You want the lightest and thinnest design.
  • You do not care about a physical rotating bezel.
  • You want a 1.47-inch display without paying Classic prices.
  • 32GB of storage is sufficient.
  • You find the watch substantially below its $349.99–$429.99 MSRP range.

Choose the 40mm if…

  • You have a smaller wrist or prioritize low weight.
  • A smaller display is acceptable.
  • You prefer the 40mm case proportions over the larger alternatives.

Choose the 44mm if…

  • You want the largest Watch8 display.
  • The 435mAh battery is preferable to the 40mm’s 325mAh cell.
  • A 34g aluminum case is comfortable for you.

Choose LTE if…

  • You often exercise or travel without your phone.
  • Calls, messages, music or navigation away from the phone are important.
  • You have confirmed carrier support and accept a separate monthly plan.

Reconsider the Watch8 if…

  • You use an iPhone.
  • You need multi-day battery life or deep endurance-sports training tools; Garmin and similar watches are generally aimed more directly at those priorities.
  • You are a diver. The 5ATM and IP68 ratings describe water resistance and ingress protection, not professional diving capability.
  • You need a medical device rather than wellness estimates and screening features.
  • You own many older bands and have not checked whether they fit the Dynamic Lug attachment.
  • The Watch8 price is close to the newer Watch9.

Is the Galaxy Watch8 still worth buying in 2026?

Yes, but only under the right pricing and compatibility conditions. The Watch8 remains a capable Wear OS smartwatch with a bright display, dual-frequency GPS, Samsung Health integration and a lighter standard model. The Classic is especially differentiated because of its physical rotating bezel. Those strengths do not disappear when a new generation launches.

However, Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 on July 22, 2026. Since the Watch8 is no longer the current mainstream generation, compare the final checkout price—not just an advertised discount—against the newer Watch9. If the gap is small, the newer model is usually the more sensible long-term purchase. If the Watch8 is meaningfully cheaper, the standard 44mm is the strongest value choice.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Classic deserves a separate calculation. Buy it if you specifically want the rotating bezel, steel construction or 64GB storage and the price is clearly below the newer alternative. Do not buy it expecting better ECG, sleep-apnea screening or blood-pressure functionality than the regular Watch8; the core health platform is shared.

Google-first Android users may also want to compare a Pixel Watch, while battery-focused and serious training users should investigate Garmin or other endurance-oriented watches. The best choice depends more on phone ecosystem, battery expectations and health-feature requirements than on the Watch8’s specification sheet alone.

Before you buy: a compatibility and ownership checklist

  1. Check the phone. Confirm Android 12 or later, Google Mobile Services and the availability of Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health. If you want Samsung Health Monitor functions, use a compatible Galaxy phone.
  2. Check the country. ECG, sleep-apnea risk assessment, blood pressure and other Health Monitor features vary by region.
  3. Choose size by wrist and screen need. The 40mm is lighter; the 44mm has the largest screen and a larger standard-model battery; the Classic is a heavy 46mm watch with a 1.34-inch display.
  4. Price LTE honestly. Add the carrier’s recurring plan cost to the purchase price and verify watch-model support before ordering.
  5. Audit your bands. Confirm that existing and third-party bands fit the Dynamic Lug system, particularly on the Classic.
  6. Set battery expectations. Plan on frequent charging if you use AOD, GPS, LTE, music streaming and sleep tracking.
  7. Treat health results cautiously. The watch can support tracking and screening, but it does not replace clinical tests, a cuff measurement, a sleep study or medical advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 work with an iPhone?

No. Galaxy Watch8 requires Android for setup and does not support iPhone. Samsung Health Monitor is also unavailable on iOS.

Is the Galaxy Watch8 waterproof?

Samsung rates it at 5ATM and IP68, with MIL-STD-810H durability testing. Use the more precise term water-resistant rather than waterproof, and do not treat it as a professional diving watch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the Galaxy Watch8 measure blood pressure in the U.S.?

A phased rollout began March 31, 2026 for select Galaxy users. It requires a compatible Galaxy Watch, a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 12 or later, an upper-arm cuff for initial calibration, three cuff readings within 30 minutes and recalibration every 28 days. Samsung describes it as a wellness feature, not a hypertension diagnosis.

Does the Galaxy Watch8 detect sleep apnea?

Its FDA-authorized Sleep Apnea Feature assesses the risk of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults aged 22 or older who have not previously been diagnosed, using two nights of monitoring. It is not a stand-alone diagnosis or substitute for a sleep study.

Can the Galaxy Watch8 make calls without a phone?

Only an LTE model can provide the same kind of cellular phone-free connectivity, and it requires initial Android pairing plus a compatible carrier plan. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models do not offer equivalent standalone cellular service.

Can I use old Galaxy Watch bands with the Watch8?

Do not assume compatibility. The Dynamic Lug System changes attachment, and reviewers report that some older standard 20mm bands may not fit the Watch8 Classic’s proprietary system. Check the exact band, adapter and watch model before reusing or buying accessories.

Which Galaxy Watch8 size has the best battery?

The 44mm standard Watch8 has the largest standard-model battery at 435mAh. The Classic is rated at 445mAh, but Samsung gives all models the same up-to-30-hours-with-AOD claim, and real-world runtime depends heavily on GPS, LTE, audio and display settings.

Is the Watch8 Classic better than the regular Watch8?

It is better for buyers who value the physical rotating bezel, stainless-steel case, Quick Button and 64GB storage. It is heavier, more expensive and has the same 1.34-inch display as the 40mm standard Watch8, while the regular 44mm has a larger 1.47-inch display.

Does the Galaxy Watch8 have dual-frequency GPS?

Yes. The 40mm, 44mm and Classic models use L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS.

Does the Galaxy Watch8 support Gemini?

Yes, with Wear OS 4 or later, an Android-connected watch, Gemini set as the connected phone’s digital assistant, a supported language and region, and internet access for many functions. Availability varies by account and software version.

The Bottom Line

Buy the Galaxy Watch8 44mm Bluetooth model when it is meaningfully discounted. It combines the largest display in the lineup with a 435mAh battery and avoids the Classic’s extra weight and price. Choose the 40mm for a smaller wrist, the Classic for its genuinely useful physical rotating bezel, and LTE only for regular phone-free use. In every case, verify Galaxy-phone requirements for Samsung Health Monitor features and compare the final Watch8 price with the newer Galaxy Watch9 before ordering.
