Seiko’s new Seiko 5 Sports limited edition is model HDB003, a 145th-anniversary watch with an Edo-purple dial. Seiko lists an October 2026 release and a worldwide production limit of 9,999 pieces. Its SKX-series styling pairs a 42.5 mm stainless-steel case with the automatic 4R36 movement, day-date display and 10 bar water resistance.
What is the Seiko 5 Sports HDB003?
HDB003 is part of Seiko’s 145th Anniversary series and the Seiko 5 Sports SKX line. Its defining feature is the Edo-purple dial, which Seiko says takes inspiration from Edo-murasaki, a purple shade popular in clothing during the Edo period. The company frames the color as a link between Edo’s traditions and modern Tokyo. Gold Seiko 5 Sports lettering is intended to suggest a bright future for the anniversary.

Seiko describes the design as “a new Seiko 5 Sports creation” celebrating its 145th anniversary “in Edo purple, reflecting an evolving aesthetic shaped by Tokyo’s heritage.” Seiko’s HDB003 product page is the official source for the model’s design and specifications.
When does it release, and how limited is it?
Seiko schedules HDB003 for October 2026 and says the edition is limited to 9,999 pieces worldwide. The Japanese Seiko store lists 9 October 2026; release timing can differ by region, so check the local Seiko store or authorized retailer for availability.

What the specifications mean for buyers
Movement and daily functions
The 4R36 is an automatic movement that can also be wound manually. Seiko lists an approximately 41-hour power reserve, a stop-seconds hand for setting, and day and date displays. The reserve is a stated specification, not a guarantee of identical running time under every wearing pattern.

Case size and fit
The 42.5 mm diameter and 46.0 mm lug-to-lug measurement offer two useful dimensions when judging wrist fit; the 13.9 mm thickness also matters for how the watch sits under a cuff. Try the watch on where possible, since wrist shape and fit preference affect how those measurements feel.
Bracelet and replacement straps
The supplied bracelet is stainless steel, and the stated lug distance is 22 mm. A 22 mm strap is the nominal width to consider, but width alone does not establish that a particular strap or end link will fit cleanly. Check the seller’s compatibility details, especially for fitted end links.

Water resistance
Seiko rates the watch at 10 bar. Treat that as the manufacturer’s water-resistance rating, not as a substitute for checking the manual’s use and care guidance or the condition of the watch’s seals over time.

Seiko says Seiko 5 Sports was created in 1968 and relaunched in 2019 while retaining its core values. In a 2023 release marking the line’s 55th anniversary, the company described a limited edition recreating the first watch alongside three SKX-style tributes to 1969 designs. That history helps explain why HDB003 combines an SKX-derived case with a heritage-inspired color rather than presenting the dial as an isolated fashion detail. The earlier models’ production numbers and prices do not apply to HDB003.
