Choose the Seiko Alpinist if you want an outdoor-oriented watch with the specific features of a reference such as the SPB507; choose Presage Cocktail Time if you prefer a glossy, patterned dial and a dressier look, as on the SRPB41. Those examples differ substantially in water resistance and power reserve, but neither specification should be applied to every watch in its family. Compare exact reference numbers before deciding.
What separates the Alpinist from Cocktail Time?
They serve different design priorities. Seiko’s Alpinist line is part of Prospex and draws on the Laurel Alpinist, introduced in 1959 for mountain climbers and recreational field sports. Seiko describes that original as its first sports watch, with a screw-back case intended to keep out dust and sand and luminous hands and indexes for legibility. These are the maker’s historical characterizations, not independent performance findings. Seiko’s Alpinist collection

Cocktail Time sits within Presage and emphasizes dial design. Seiko describes its dials as glossy and reminiscent of colorful cocktails. The line began in 2010 as a Japanese-market watch inspired by cocktail-bar glamour, according to Seiko’s 2017 announcement, and later joined the international Presage collection. Choose the Alpinist SPB507 if its features match your use
- You want the SPB507’s 20-bar stated water resistance and rotating compass bezel.
- You prefer a sportier, outdoor-oriented design.
- The SPB507’s specific movement and approximately three-day reserve suit your preferences.
Choose the Cocktail Time SRPB41 if the dial and presentation matter most
- You are drawn to its glossy, patterned dial and dressier appearance.
- You prefer its stated 5-bar water resistance and approximately 41-hour reserve.
- Its 40.5 mm diameter, 11.8 mm thickness and 20 mm lug width work for your fit and strap plans.
Neither model is a universal winner. Comfort depends on more than case diameter and thickness; wrist shape, lug-to-lug length, weight, bracelet or strap, and personal preference also matter. Accuracy for an individual watch and long-term reliability cannot be determined from these product specifications, and there is no comparative test evidence here.
Can you swim with either watch?
Do not treat the line name as a water-use rating. The SPB507 is listed at 20 bar and the SRPB41 at 5 bar, but those figures apply to those references alone. Consult the maker’s instructions for the exact watch and intended activity, and follow its care guidance; a rating by itself is not a substitute for checking the manufacturer’s permitted-use details. What should you verify before buying?
- Confirm the reference number. Alpinist includes compass-bezel and GMT designs, while Cocktail Time includes different references and case sizes. A collection name is not enough to establish the specification.
- Check fit details. Compare diameter, thickness, lug-to-lug length, weight and band on the exact product page; dimensions alone do not guarantee comfort.
- Check the crystal, movement, reserve and water rating. Do not transfer an SRPB41 or SPB507 specification to another model.
- Check local price, availability and warranty. Seiko product pages are regional, and prices and lineups can change. Confirm current terms with the seller in your country.
