Seiko publishes a detailed specification sheet and a 1,200-piece edition count for SSH145; the official SSJ021 listing confirms its identity and movement family but does not provide comparable model-specific specifications.
Which watches are the Morning Star editions?
The two references associated with the Morning Star GPS Solar releases are SSH145/SSH145J1 and SSJ021/SSJ021J1. Seiko’s official French product page identifies SSH145 as a 2024 limited edition; Seiko Hungary’s Astron catalog lists SSJ021J1 as a Morning Star 3X62 Solar GPS limited edition. A specialist watch publication also covered the pair together on February 8, 2024.
They share the Morning Star theme, but they are not interchangeable specifications: SSH145 uses the 5X53 caliber, while SSJ021 is identified as a 3X62 model. Seiko’s available official material establishes far more about SSH145 than SSJ021.

What makes SSH145 distinctive?
Night-sky styling and limited production
Seiko describes SSH145’s black titanium case and bracelet as evoking a night sky. Its dial has a sparkling gradient intended to suggest the sky brightening, while gold accents refer to stars and planets before dawn. Seiko identifies the model as a 2024 limited edition of 1,200 pieces.

Size, materials and water resistance
The case measures 42.7 mm across, 12.2 mm thick and 48.0 mm from lug to lug. Seiko lists a sapphire crystal with super-clear coating, 10 bar water resistance, 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance and a weight of 105 g. Those figures are useful for judging fit and daily-use suitability, but they are SSH145 specifications and should not be assumed for SSJ021.
5X53 timekeeping and power
Seiko lists GPS time and time-zone adjustment, world time covering 39 time zones, dual time and a perpetual calendar through February 28, 2100. The dial also indicates the day, power reserve, satellite acquisition status and reception result. Additional listed functions include daylight-saving time, automatic hand-position alignment, overcharge prevention and power save.

Without GPS reception, Seiko states accuracy of ±15 seconds per month at 5–35°C. The company gives an operating period of about six months on a full charge, or about two years in power-save mode. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of an individual watch’s real-world performance.
What is confirmed about SSJ021?
Seiko Hungary’s official catalog calls SSJ021J1 a “Morning Star 3X62 Solar GPS Limited Edition” and places it in the Astron 3X series. That confirms the reference’s Morning Star identity and movement family. The catalog text retrieved for this model does not establish its edition count, dimensions, full function list or price, so a direct specification-by-specification comparison with SSH145 is not possible from those official details.

Seiko describes the 3X family generally as smaller, lighter and more efficient, and says the series can include watches under 40 mm. That is a family-level description, not a verified diameter for SSJ021. Check an exact-reference product specification in your market before relying on a case-size figure.

Seiko describes Astron as using GPS network reception for time and time-zone adjustment, with light providing power. In a 2023 release about related 3X62 Astron technology, Seiko said a sunlight-detecting dial can prompt an automatic GPS connection; when the watch is away from light, it can remember the time of its last successful manual connection and attempt reception then. Seiko also notes that regional, time-zone or daylight-saving changes may require manual selection. These are descriptions of related Astron technology and should not be treated as a guarantee that every behavior applies identically to both Morning Star references.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose SSH145 if you want a model with a detailed manufacturer-published specification, confirmed 5X53 dual-time and world-time functions, and a stated 1,200-piece production limit—and its 42.7 mm case suits your wrist.
- Consider SSJ021 if you are specifically interested in the 3X62 Morning Star model, but first obtain its exact-reference dimensions, functions, edition count and local price from Seiko or an authorized seller. The catalog information cited here does not settle those details.
Check price and availability by market
Prices and stock vary by region and can change. When accessed in 2026, Seiko France showed SSH145 at €2,800, while Seiko Boutique UK’s catalog showed £2,470. These are separate regional listings, not a single global price or evidence of present stock. Verify the reference number, local price, seller and availability before buying; an official listing does not by itself guarantee that a retailer currently has a watch to sell.
