What the Seiko Cocktail Time GMT offers
The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time GMT SSK037 is a useful benchmark: it combines an automatic GMT movement with a polished dial inspired by Japanese cocktail culture. Seiko USA specifies the SSK037 with the 4R34 movement, manual winding, 24 jewels and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Its stainless-steel case measures 40.5 mm across, 12.8 mm thick, and 47.5 mm from lug to lug; lug width is 20 mm. It has a box-shaped Hardlex crystal, date display and 5 bar water resistance. Citizen: the practical all-round alternative
The NB6030-59L is the closest functional match if you want an automatic movement, GMT hand and a watch that is still relatively close to the Seiko’s case width. At 41 mm, it is only 0.5 mm wider than the SSK037 on paper. Its sapphire crystal and 10 bar water resistance distinguish it from the Seiko’s Hardlex and 5 bar rating, while the sportier Series 8 design changes the overall character. Citizen’s official page lists the caliber 9054 and its specifications: Citizen Series 8 NB6030-59L.
Hamilton: dressier, with a collection-status catch
The Jazzmaster GMT Auto uses a blue hand to indicate a second time zone against a 24-hour dial. Hamilton’s official description calls out that hand and dial as part of the watch’s design. Its 42 mm case is larger than the SSK037, and the 50-hour reserve and sapphire crystal are stated on the product page. However, that page marks the H32605551 “Past collection,” so availability may depend on used inventory or remaining retailer stock rather than ongoing production. Orient: a larger diver-design choice
The RA-BC0005L offers an automatic GMT in a diver-design watch with a 42.8 mm case width, sapphire crystal and a stated reserve of over 40 hours. It is a more substantial, tool-watch-style alternative than the Cocktail Time. Orient’s cited product details do not state a water-resistance figure, so do not infer one from the diver-design name. How to choose by fit and style
The dimensions provide a quick starting point, but case diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears. The Seiko’s published lug-to-lug length is 47.5 mm; comparable lug-to-lug and thickness figures are not stated on the cited pages for all three alternatives. If wrist fit or sliding a watch under a cuff matters, check those dimensions for the exact reference rather than deciding from diameter alone.

- For a dress-leaning dial: the 42 mm Hamilton is the closest stylistic direction among these choices, subject to its past-collection status.

These watches differ in more than diameter: their styling, crystal materials and stated water resistance are not interchangeable. A higher published water-resistance rating is a specification difference, not evidence of superior timekeeping accuracy or a guarantee of suitability for every water activity. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for the specific watch.

A GMT function uses a 24-hour indication to show another time alongside local time. The hand is read against a 24-hour scale, so its position distinguishes morning from evening in the tracked time zone. The Seiko pairs its blue GMT hand with a cursive Arabic 24-hour scale; the Hamilton specifies a blue second-time-zone hand and 24-hour dial.

Setting arrangements depend on the movement. Citizen’s caliber 9054 manual treats setting the 24-hour hand separately from setting local hour and date. That is a reason to follow the manual for the exact watch rather than assume every GMT movement adjusts the same hand or date in the same way. Citizen caliber 9054 instruction manual. Check before you buy
- Confirm the complete reference. Similar model names can cover different dial or regional versions; verify the reference on the watch and seller listing.
- Check local availability. In particular, Hamilton’s official page identifies H32605551 as past collection. Current regional inventory is not established by these product pages.
- Verify fit beyond diameter. Look for lug-to-lug length, thickness and lug width for the exact reference, especially if you have a cuff or wrist-fit constraint.
- Read the movement manual. Use the maker’s instructions for setting local time, the 24-hour hand and date; do not assume adjustment procedures are identical across movements.
- Match water use to the published rating and maker guidance. The cited figures are 5 bar for Seiko and Hamilton and 10 bar for Citizen; Orient’s cited product details do not state a rating.
- Check strap compatibility separately. Seiko specifies a 20 mm lug width for the SSK037, but that does not establish the width, spring-bar type or end-link fit of any alternative.
