The Seiko Prospex SLA055 and SLA057 are limited-edition reinterpretations of the brand’s 1968 diver, released in January 2022. Their main differences are dial and edition size: the SLA055 has a blue Antarctic-inspired dial and a 1,300-piece production run; the black-dial SLA057 is limited to 600. They share the same movement and core case specifications.
How the SLA055 and SLA057 differ
Seiko presents both watches as Save the Ocean editions in its 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation line. The blue SLA055 emphasizes a patterned, Antarctic ice-inspired dial; the black SLA057 uses a color Seiko describes as faithful to the original design. Seiko announced production runs of 1,300 and 600 pieces, respectively. These are manufacturer-published edition quantities, not current counts of watches available for sale.

Design, release, and Save the Ocean context
Seiko describes the watches as modern reinterpretations of its 1968 diver. The company says the blue SLA055 dial evokes Antarctic ice and expresses a wish for the landscape to endure despite climate change. That is Seiko’s account of the design intent, rather than an independent climate assessment. The black SLA057 offers the alternative for buyers who prefer a less overtly patterned dial.

In its launch announcement, Seiko said the watches would be available from January 2022 at Seiko boutiques and selected retail partners worldwide, and that members of the 63rd Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) would wear them. Seiko also said it contributed to Japan’s National Institute of Polar Research in Tokyo and donated watches to the expedition team. Its Save the Ocean overview describes a broader range of marine-conservation activities. The cited materials do not specify a donation amount per watch sold, so a purchase should not be understood as funding a fixed sum or percentage.
