The Seiko Prospex Scuba SBDC003 is a blue-dial automatic diver identified in specialist and retailer listings with Seiko’s 6R15 movement, a 45 mm case and a stated 200 m diver’s water-resistance rating. Those figures describe the model as specified—not the present condition of a pre-owned example. The SBDC003 is an older reference, and one retailer’s page marks its own stock sold out; that does not establish whether examples remain available elsewhere.
What is the Seiko SBDC003?
The SBDC003 is a Seiko Prospex Scuba automatic diver. WatchSleuth’s specialist model database identifies its case code as 6R15-00G0 and its dial as blue; a Japanese retailer listing also identifies the watch as an automatic SBDC003. These are secondary-source model details rather than a current Seiko product specification page. WatchSleuth model entry · 012.co.jp SBDC003 listing.
The reference’s appeal is easy to understand from its basic brief: a blue dial, a conventional dive-watch bezel and a substantial steel case, paired with an automatic movement. The available source details establish its intended diver’s role, but do not amount to a hands-on assessment of comfort, accuracy, finishing or durability.
SBDC003 specifications
| Specification | What the sources report |
|---|---|
| Model and movement | SBDC003 automatic with Seiko caliber 6R15; WatchSleuth also lists case code 6R15-00G0. WatchSleuth; 012.co.jp |
| Dial | Blue, per WatchSleuth. WatchSleuth |
| Case width | 45 mm; WatchSleuth specifies this without the crown, and 012.co.jp also lists 45 mm. WatchSleuth; 012.co.jp |
| Thickness | Conflicting listings: 14 mm at WatchSleuth and 13.3 mm at 012.co.jp. Treat either as an estimate, not a settled measurement. WatchSleuth; 012.co.jp |
| Water resistance | 200 m diver’s water resistance in both listings. This is the stated model rating, not confirmation of a particular watch’s current resistance. WatchSleuth; 012.co.jp |
| Crystal | WatchSleuth identifies Hardlex; 012.co.jp describes curved glass. The sources do not independently confirm both attributes together. WatchSleuth; 012.co.jp |
| Other listed details | 012.co.jp reports Lumibrite on hands and indices, a unidirectional bezel, screw-lock crown, screw back and 183 g weight. 012.co.jp |
| Lug width | 20 mm, as listed by WatchSleuth; verify the individual watch and any replacement strap before buying. WatchSleuth |
WatchSleuth cautions that some dimensions in its database may be inaccurate. The 45 mm width is consistent across the two listings, while the thickness is not. The cited model details do not establish a verified power-reserve figure, so one should not be inferred from the caliber name alone.

How the size and design may wear
A reported 45 mm case width makes the SBDC003 a large watch by the dimensions supplied. That measurement is listed without the crown by WatchSleuth and as 45 mm by 012.co.jp. Whether it suits a particular wrist depends on more than case width: the available sources do not establish lug-to-lug length, how the case sits, or how the bracelet fits different wrists. If possible, try the specific watch on rather than relying on diameter alone.
The blue dial is the clearest distinguishing visual detail in the specialist database. The retailer’s listing adds Lumibrite on the hands and indices and a unidirectional bezel, features consistent with the model’s dive-watch specification. These are catalog descriptions, not independent findings about the brightness or operation of an individual example.

What 200 m water resistance means for a used SBDC003
The two model listings report 200 m diver’s water resistance, but that rating does not certify a watch’s condition years later. Seiko states that “A watch’s water resistance is not permanently guaranteed.” Aging gaskets and deformation after a shock can affect resistance, so a used SBDC003 should not be treated as water-ready solely because of its original rating. Seiko water-resistance guidance.
If you plan to use a pre-owned example in water, ask for a recent water-resistance assessment from a qualified watch professional. Seiko advises rinsing a water-resistant watch with fresh water after ocean use and drying it, while avoiding washing it directly under running water. Follow the watch’s care guidance and do not operate the crown when wet. Seiko water-resistance guidance.

- Request service records and ask what work was performed and when.
- Inspect the case, crystal, crown, bezel, bracelet and clasp for condition or damage; the sources do not establish the condition or completeness of any listing.
- If water use matters, request a current resistance assessment from a qualified professional.
- Confirm that the bracelet includes the links you need and that the components shown belong to the watch being sold.
- For a strap change, use 20 mm as a starting lug-width measurement, then verify the actual watch and strap dimensions. End-link shape and fit are not established by lug width alone.

Movement care and service
Seiko’s 6R15 instruction manual says worn parts or insufficient lubrication can cause time loss or stoppage and recommends an overhaul in that situation. It advises contacting the retailer or Seiko customer service. The cited passage does not set a model-specific service interval or fee, so neither should be assumed from it. Seiko’s 2024 announcement for the Prospex 1965 Heritage models lists the SBDC195 and SBDC197 with 300 m air-diving water resistance and describes their 6R55 movement as having about 72 hours of reserve. That offers a current-era comparison point for specifications, not proof that either model directly replaced the SBDC003. Seiko 2024 Prospex announcement.
When weighing the SBDC003 against another diver, compare the exact references on case width and thickness, movement and published power reserve, crystal and legibility features, and water resistance. For a used watch, condition, service history, seller confidence and bracelet completeness may matter more than a catalog comparison. Do not treat the SBDC003’s reported 200 m rating as evidence of a used example’s current resistance.
