The Seiko Prospex SLA067J1 is a 600-piece worldwide limited edition that reworks Seiko’s 1965 diver in a black-coated, contemporary style. Its appeal is more than the all-black look: it pairs a 41.3 mm hard-coated steel case and 200 m diver’s water resistance with Seiko’s automatic 8L35 movement. The trade-offs to weigh are its relatively large case, a stated accuracy range of +15 to −10 seconds per day, and regional listings that do not establish a single current global price or availability.
What the SLA067J1 is
Seiko describes the model as a “1965 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation” in its Black Series. The black-coated case, dial and strap give the historical design a distinctly modern monochrome treatment. Seiko Boutique Singapore lists the edition at 600 pieces worldwide, a figure also reported in Fratello’s February 2023 release coverage. Seiko Boutique Singapore · Fratello, February 2023
Its lineage is specific: Seiko’s official history says, “Seiko’s and Japan’s first ever diver’s watch was made in 1965.” The original had 150 m water resistance and was used by the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition from 1966 to 1969. That is historical context, not a claim that the SLA067J1 was used on those expeditions. Seiko’s 1965 diver history

What the 8L35 means for a buyer
The 8L35 is an automatic movement that can also be wound by hand. Seiko’s Hong Kong listing gives an approximately 50-hour reserve and an accuracy specification of +15 to −10 seconds per day. Fratello reports a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. These are specification figures, not a guarantee of how a particular watch will perform in daily wear; no independent accuracy test of an SLA067J1 sample is established in the cited coverage. Fratello’s launch report
The accuracy allowance is worth considering alongside the purchase price. Fratello criticized the published tolerance in its launch coverage; that was the author’s assessment of the specification, not the result of a measured test. A buyer who expects tighter stated accuracy should compare the allowance with their own priorities rather than assume the movement will run at a particular rate.

How the case may fit
At 41.3 mm across and 13.1 mm thick, the SLA067J1 has substantial dimensions for a diver. Those measurements help set expectations, but they do not establish wrist comfort or fit: the available sources do not provide a hands-on fit assessment. If fit is decisive, trying the watch on is more informative than judging by diameter alone.
Launch price versus regional listings
There is no single current global price established by the cited pages. Fratello reported a €3,200 launch price in its February 2, 2023 release coverage, with boutique and retail-partner availability expected that month. That is launch-era pricing, not a current price. The boutique listings are separate regional snapshots:

The SLA067J1 draws on the 1965 diver’s design, but it is not the same watch as the SLA017, an earlier recreation discussed in Seiko’s 2017 press release. That release’s SLA017 details should not be carried over to the SLA067J1: the models have distinct specifications and edition details. For the SLA067J1, rely on its own current product listing for dimensions, strap wording and other model-specific specifications. Seiko’s 2017 press release and heritage account

Who should consider it
- It suits a buyer drawn to the 1965 Seiko diver lineage who wants a black-coated limited edition rather than a historically styled recreation.
- The 200 m diver’s rating, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and unidirectional bezel provide practical diver-watch features; the listing does not establish independent performance testing.
- The 41.3 mm by 13.1 mm case should be treated as a meaningful fit consideration, especially if you usually prefer smaller watches.
- The published accuracy allowance and regional price/stock differences deserve attention before purchase, particularly for buyers comparing it with alternatives in this price tier.
