The Seiko Prospex SRPA71 is a 42 mm automatic Land watch with a 4R35 movement, 10-bar water resistance and a Hardlex crystal. It is suited to everyday wear and surface-water use, but the available specifications do not establish it as an ISO-certified dive watch. Its main trade-off is straightforward: useful mechanical features and a robust sports-watch profile, with Hardlex rather than sapphire.
What kind of watch is the SRPA71?
Seiko identifies the SRPA71 as a Prospex Land model. Its 10-bar water-resistance rating is commonly described as 100 m class, but that rating alone does not make it a professional dive watch. The available specifications do not establish ISO dive-watch certification, so it is more accurate to think of it as a land-oriented sports watch than as a certified diver.
That distinction matters if you are buying specifically for scuba diving or need a watch with a documented dive-watch standard. For daily wear and surface-water activities, the stated rating is more relevant; it should not be treated as proof of professional-diving suitability.

Seiko’s official specification is the primary source for the dimensions and water resistance. WatchCharts independently lists the family with a 42 mm case, mineral glass, 4R35 movement, 41-hour reserve, 23 jewels, date and 100 m water resistance; it rounds thickness to about 13 mm. For thickness, Seiko’s published 12.1 mm figure is the more precise reference. Seiko Watch Corporation; WatchCharts.

How does the 4R35 movement work?
The 4R35 is an automatic mechanical movement that can also be wound by hand. It includes stop seconds, which halts the seconds hand when the crown is pulled to set the time, and a date display. Seiko lists 23 jewels and an approximately 41-hour power reserve (Seiko Watch Corporation, year not stated; official specification accessed 2026).
That reserve is a specification, not a guarantee of the exact time the watch will run in every wearer’s routine. If left unworn long enough to run down, it will need winding and time-setting before use. No measured accuracy result is established here, so buyers should not interpret the movement description as a specific daily accuracy promise.

How does the 42 mm case fit?
A 42.0 mm diameter gives the SRPA71 a substantial sports-watch presence. Whether it suits your wrist depends on more than diameter: lug-to-lug length, case shape, bracelet or strap, and personal preference all affect perceived fit. Seiko’s cited specification gives a 21 mm lug width but not a lug-to-lug measurement, so there is no reliable basis here for naming a minimum wrist size.
If fit is uncertain, try the watch on in person or compare its case diameter and lug span with a watch you already find comfortable. The SRPA71’s thickness is 12.1 mm, another dimension worth considering if you prefer a lower-profile watch.

Hardlex crystal: the main material trade-off
The SRPA71 uses Seiko Hardlex, not sapphire. Hardlex is a practical crystal choice, but buyers who prioritize scratch resistance should treat this as a meaningful compromise rather than assume sapphire-like performance. WatchCharts categorizes the family’s glass as mineral glass, consistent with the general distinction from sapphire.
The dial has LumiBrite on the hands and numerals, which supports low-light legibility. No independently measured lume duration or brightness result is established, so the presence of LumiBrite should not be taken as a quantified performance claim.

Is the SRPA71 worth buying?
It may suit buyers who want a mechanical Seiko sports watch with manual winding, stop seconds, a date, a transparent screw case back and a 10-bar rating. The 42 mm case will appeal to people who like a noticeable wrist presence, while the Hardlex crystal is less compelling for anyone whose top priority is scratch resistance.
The decision is less favorable if you need documented professional-diving certification, a sapphire crystal, or a confirmed fit for a particular wrist. Bracelet or strap comfort, real-world accuracy, service experience and durability cannot be judged from the specifications alone; inspect the specific watch and assess those factors in person where possible.
