Its 43 mm width and 50 mm lug-to-lug are only part of the fit picture: the height may feel bulky and catch on cuffs. Fratello’s January 21, 2021 review describes this configuration as discontinued, so listings for other Cahill variants should not be treated as the same watch.
What the 2021 review says about the New England
Rob Nudds’s Fratello review, published January 21, 2021, covers an older gray, ion-plated Cahill New England configuration. It identifies an SII NH35 automatic movement, a 43 mm case width excluding the crown, 16 mm thickness, 50 mm lug-to-lug, and a 120-click bezel. Nudds describes the model as discontinued.
The reviewer’s positive case is value, a robust-feeling watch head and distinctive design. His criticisms are equally specific: the dark aesthetic may not suit everyone, the ion-plated finish is a drawback for him, the watch is thick, and he dislikes the strap. He also reports that the glued sapphire bezel insert on his example was misaligned and moved back from the marker; he considered the bezel action itself acceptable. That is an observation about the reviewed sample, not evidence of a widespread defect.
Will it work as a daily-wear dive watch?
Fit and thickness
The 50 mm lug-to-lug measurement is useful alongside the 43 mm width when considering how the case may span a wrist. But at 16 mm thick, the watch is substantial, and its height may be more noticeable under a sleeve than its lug length suggests. That is a practical inference from the published dimensions, not a measured comfort result. The review does not state the reviewer’s wrist size or report controlled fit testing.

Style and finish
The all-dark look is a defining feature rather than a neutral choice: it can make the watch visually distinctive, but it may be harder to pair with a range of clothing. Nudds’s objections to the ion plating and dark appearance are personal judgments, not a general assessment of how the finish ages. The review does not establish a durability rate for the coating.
Bezel and strap
For the example he handled, Nudds distinguished between an acceptable 120-click mechanism and an unsatisfactory insert alignment. If buying a pre-owned example, inspect the bezel marker alignment and whether the insert shifts. The review criticizes the strap but does not establish the exact reference or strap width, so confirm lug width and attachment compatibility before ordering a replacement.

Do not confuse it with other Cahill versions
“Cahill” covers materially different specifications. Official pages show variants that differ in case size, movement, thickness, crystal, water resistance and strap. A similar name or appearance is not enough to establish that a listing matches the New England reviewed by Fratello.
| Version and source | Reported specifications | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Older gray New England reviewed by Fratello, 2021 | 43 mm wide excluding crown; 16 mm thick; 50 mm lug-to-lug; SII NH35; 120-click bezel. Strap width and exact reference are not stated in the review. | This is the configuration discussed here; the review calls it discontinued. |
| Cahill/TiCTAC material, Spinnaker Japan | 40 mm case; Miyota 8215; unidirectional bezel; Super-LumiNova; sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Certain SP-5075 models are offered with rubber straps. | A smaller, differently equipped variant—not the 43 mm New England reviewed by Fratello. |
| Cahill 300 SP-5096-03, Spinnaker UK | 43 mm; 13.65 mm thick; 50 mm lug-to-lug; Seiko NH35; 30 ATM; sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating; 22 mm leather strap. | Despite the same width and lug-to-lug as the reviewed watch, it is thinner and has different listed specifications. |
| Cahill SP-5033-04, Spinnaker US | 43 mm; 16 mm thick; 50 mm lug-to-lug; 20 ATM; mineral lens; leather band. Movement and strap width are not stated on the cited listing. | This is a distinct US listing, not proof of the exact reference or specifications of the gray New England review sample. |

Water resistance and care for an older example
Do not assume a printed depth rating makes a pre-owned watch safe for swimming or diving today. Seals can deteriorate with age and wear, and the New England review does not establish the current condition of any individual watch. Have a qualified watchmaker inspect it and test its water resistance before exposing it to water.
The available SP-5096 Cahill 300 manual is specific to that Cahill 300 model, not proof of the older New England’s instructions or rating. It says to secure the screw-down crown, notes that water resistance can be compromised over time, and advises against hot showers, jacuzzis and steam rooms. Apply those directions to the covered SP-5096; for another reference, use its own documentation.

Price and availability
Nudds reported a new retail price of about €300 at the time of his 2021 review and said used examples could be found for less depending on condition. Those are historical observations, not current pricing. The review describes the configuration as discontinued; present-day stock, listings and prices have not been verified. Search results may include pre-owned New England examples or different Cahill models, so check the reference and specifications before comparing prices.
