TDK did not launch a finished consumer AI watch or smart-glasses product at CES 2026. Instead, it demonstrated the sensing, low-power processing, positioning, audio, charging, and haptic technologies that manufacturers can use to build AI-enabled glasses, earbuds, smartwatches, fitness bands, and XR devices.
The most important announcements were TDK AIsight, a new business focused on eye-intent computing for AI glasses, and InvenSense SmartMotion solutions that move motion processing and machine learning closer to wearable sensors.

TDK AIsight targets eye-intent computing
On January 6, 2026, TDK announced the establishment of TDK AIsight. The new group company is intended to connect “physical AI”—systems that sense and respond to the real world—with generative AI, particularly in smart glasses.
AIsight’s proposed scope includes custom chips, cameras, eye-intent and eye-tracking technologies, and AI algorithms. It can also draw on TDK’s existing sensors, batteries, passive components, and other hardware. The strategy is to help glasses understand what the wearer is looking at or trying to do, then involve a larger host processor or generative-AI service only when appropriate.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That direction follows TDK’s acquisition of SoftEye, a smart-glasses technology company working on custom chips, cameras, software, and algorithms. AIsight therefore represents a more deliberate smart-glasses platform strategy rather than an isolated CES prototype.
What the SED0112 actually is
The SED0112 is an ultra-low-power DSP/microprocessor platform designed for AI glasses. TDK lists a package size of 4.6 mm × 4.6 mm and describes an architecture combining a microcontroller, state-machine functions, and an integrated hardware convolutional-neural-network engine.
Its intended workload is selected eye-intent and vision-related processing. The platform supports multiple vision sensors at different resolutions, including up to four SES0111 eye sensors and one SES0113 contextual sensor. It also works with AIsight’s eyeGI software and algorithms.

The practical concept is event-driven operation. The SED0112 can monitor relevant eye or contextual signals using relatively little power and wake or notify a larger host processor when something important happens. That could reduce unnecessary activity in a glasses system where battery capacity, heat, weight, and frame space are tightly constrained.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHowever, the SED0112 is not a complete pair of AI glasses and TDK did not present it as a general-purpose replacement for a smartphone-class processor. It is an embedded platform for specific low-power sensing and neural-processing tasks. It should also be distinguished from the eye sensors themselves, the algorithms that interpret eye behavior, and the separate generative-AI system that may produce a response.
TDK stated that commercial samples were available through the TDK AIsight website at the time of the announcement. That does not establish a consumer retail launch, a finished-product price, battery runtime in a final device, or the capabilities of any particular generative-AI model. InvenSense moves motion intelligence to the sensor edge
TDK’s InvenSense group added a second major part of the wearable story with SmartMotion custom sensing solutions for AI glasses, AR eyewear, TWS earbuds, smartwatches, fitness bands, and other IoT products.
The newest inertial-measurement-unit solutions are based on the ICM-456xx family. TDK says they combine on-chip sensor fusion with machine-learning capabilities, allowing motion algorithms to operate closer to the sensor rather than placing every task on the main system-on-chip or microcontroller.
- Lower latency: Head and body motion can be processed closer to where it is captured.
- Lower host-processor load: The main processor does not need to handle every raw motion calculation.
- Potential power savings: The host system can remain in a lower-power state for selected functions.
- More responsive interaction: Local motion intelligence can support gesture recognition, head tracking, and earbud controls.
- Improved AR behavior: Faster orientation updates can help stabilize overlays and spatial-audio experiences.
InvenSense said its newest ICM-45687 was available through sales inquiry. As with the SED0112, this is an OEM and developer proposition, not a plug-and-play upgrade for an existing watch.

The broader sensor stack behind an AI wearable
TDK’s CES strategy makes more sense when viewed as a system rather than as a single “AI chip.” Different sensors contribute different pieces of context:
| Layer | Technology | Possible wearable role |
|---|---|---|
| Visual context | Cameras and contextual sensors | Understanding the wearer’s surroundings |
| Eye intent | Eye sensors and SED0112 processing | Detecting gaze-related input or user intent |
| Motion | IMUs and SmartMotion algorithms | Head tracking, activity recognition, and gesture control |
| Magnetic position | TMR sensors | Hinge-angle detection and device orientation |
| Proximity | Ultrasonic Time-of-Flight sensors | Wear detection and near-field gestures |
| Audio | MEMS microphones | Voice-activated AI and environmental sound capture |
| Navigation | PositionSense 9-axis solutions | Orientation and positioning using an IMU, TMR magnetometer, and software |
For a smartwatch, the same idea can mean smarter activity recognition, more efficient motion sensing, and reduced host-processor activity. For earbuds, it can mean better head tracking, spatial audio, and gesture interaction. For glasses, the stack expands to include cameras, eye intent, microphones, proximity sensing, and display feedback.
How the pieces work together
- Sensors capture the wearer and environment. Cameras see context, eye sensors monitor gaze-related signals, IMUs measure movement, microphones capture voice and sound, and ToF or TMR sensors provide proximity and positional information.
- Local processors filter the raw data. The SED0112 handles selected low-power vision and eye-intent workloads, while SmartMotion solutions process motion and combine sensor inputs.
- A host system handles more demanding tasks. When a relevant event is detected, a host processor can activate and pass selected information to a higher-level AI system.
- The wearable provides feedback. Responses may arrive through a display, audio, touch controls, haptic actuators, or an XR interface.
This distributed architecture is the central technical point in TDK’s CES story. AI wearables are not simply traditional watches or glasses with a chatbot added. They require a chain of sensors, local inference, power management, connectivity, and user feedback that can operate within a very small and power-constrained product.
Engo shows how the technology can reach a finished product
Engo augmented-reality sports eyewear provided a concrete example of TDK sensing technology appearing in a partner product. TDK’s announcement describes eyewear aimed at runners, cyclists, and triathletes, with a stated weight of approximately 36 grams and more than 12 hours of battery life.
The product is designed to present performance metrics without requiring athletes to look away from their activity. Those specifications are claims about the Engo product as described by TDK; they are not evidence that TDK manufactures or sells the complete eyewear system.

What “AI-powered” means in TDK’s announcements
The phrase covers several different technologies:
- On-device machine learning: Algorithms operating in or near a sensor.
- Eye-intent recognition: Software inferring what the wearer may be looking at or attempting to do.
- Sensor fusion: Combining motion, magnetic, acoustic, visual, and proximity data.
- Physical AI: Connecting digital decisions to the physical world and the wearer’s movement.
- Generative-AI assistance: Producing contextual answers or insights from captured information.
Not every TDK component runs a conversational AI model. In most cases, TDK is supplying the sensing, embedded processing, power, and integration layer that allows a larger wearable system to perform AI-related functions efficiently.
Why edge intelligence matters—and what it does not solve
Local processing can improve responsiveness and may reduce the need to wake a more powerful processor for every event. It can also reduce the amount of raw sensor data that needs to be transmitted, which could support privacy-conscious designs. But TDK’s CES material does not establish a complete privacy architecture, data-retention policy, consent model, or cloud-processing policy for a finished product.
There are also unavoidable trade-offs. More complex local models can consume more energy. Eye tracking may be affected by fit, lighting, lens design, motion, occlusion, and individual differences. A system can mistake an involuntary eye movement or ordinary head motion for an intentional command. Cameras, displays, microphones, radios, and batteries still create difficult thermal and industrial-design constraints in glasses-sized hardware.
Edge processing also does not eliminate the need for a host processor, connectivity, or cloud services in every use case. It reduces and organizes workloads; it does not automatically make a complete wearable independent or all-day capable.

That is different from buying a TDK AI watch or pair of AI glasses in a store. No broad consumer retail launch, consumer price, or public finished-product release date was established by the CES announcements. The Engo demonstration was a partner-product example, not a TDK-branded consumer launch.
For manufacturers, the attraction is a more integrated supplier portfolio: TDK can contribute sensors, local processing, batteries, passive components, wireless charging, audio-related hardware, and haptic technologies. For consumers, the eventual result may appear under another brand in the form of a watch, pair of glasses, earbuds, or fitness device.
The significance for smartwatches
TDK’s most direct smartwatch relevance is not a new watch model but the possibility of more efficient local sensing. SmartMotion-class processing can help watches interpret movement and activity while reducing the workload on their main processor. Similar techniques could support gesture controls, orientation-aware interfaces, and lower-latency interactions.
Whether those benefits become visible to users depends on the watchmaker’s implementation. Sensor choice alone does not guarantee better health metrics, longer battery life, or more accurate activity tracking. Firmware, calibration, algorithms, optical hardware, processor scheduling, and product design remain equally important.
Bottom line
TDK’s CES 2026 wearable push was a platform story, not a consumer-product launch. AIsight and the SED0112 target eye intent and low-power vision processing for smart glasses, while InvenSense SmartMotion brings sensor fusion and machine learning to motion tracking across glasses, earbuds, watches, and fitness bands.
The company’s likely contribution is the infrastructure that other brands will build around: sensing, local inference, power efficiency, and physical-world interaction. TDK has not shown that it has solved every challenge of AI wearables—especially battery life, privacy, optical design, and reliable generative-AI behavior—but it is positioning itself as one of the suppliers that could make those products practical.
