The Best Smart Rings in 2024: Oura, Samsung, Ultrahuman and RingConn Compared

Oura led the 2024 smart-ring market for sleep and recovery, while Samsung, Ultrahuman and RingConn offered stronger choices for Galaxy users, subscription-free ownership and battery life.

Oura was the most complete smart-ring platform in 2024, Samsung’s Galaxy Ring was the best fit for Galaxy owners, Ultrahuman Ring AIR was the strongest premium option without a membership, and RingConn offered the best combination of value and battery life.

This is a historical snapshot of the market through the end of 2024. It includes the Oura Ring Gen 3, which dominated much of the year, and the Oura Ring 4, which arrived late in 2024. Prices, availability and software features have since changed, so the figures below are 2024 reference points rather than current buying quotes.

Best smart rings in 2024 at a glance

Category Pick Best reason to buy Main compromise
Best overall Oura Ring Gen 3; Oura Ring 4 for late-2024 buyers The most mature sleep, recovery and wellness app Ongoing membership fee
Best for Samsung users Samsung Galaxy Ring Samsung Health and Galaxy Watch integration Android-only, with the best experience reserved for Galaxy users
Best without a subscription Ultrahuman Ring AIR Detailed recovery and wellness guidance High upfront price and less mature software than Oura in some areas
Best battery life and value RingConn Gen 2 No subscription and a claimed 10-plus-day battery Basic exercise tracking and a less polished app
Best budget alternative Original RingConn Lower initial cost with core wellness tracking Shorter claimed battery life and fewer advanced insights
Best specialist options Circular Ring Slim or Movano Evie Ring Lightweight or women-focused designs Availability, reliability and app maturity were less established

“Best” here is an editorial judgment based on feature breadth, app quality, compatibility, ownership cost and use case. It is not a claim that one ring delivers the most medically accurate readings in every situation.

What a smart ring actually does

Smart rings are screen-free wearables designed to be worn continuously, particularly overnight. Depending on the model and region, sensors estimate sleep duration and stages, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability (HRV), movement, respiratory rate, skin-temperature trends, stress or recovery, and blood-oxygen-related measurements.

#1 Best Overall
Oura Ring 5 Smart Ring - Silver - Size 7 - Fitness & Sleep Tracker
  • THE WORLD’S SMALLEST SMART RING - 40% smaller than the previous generation, Oura Ring 5 is thinner, lighter and smaller than ever. The updated all-titanium design is more scratch-resistant and comfortable than ever
  • SIZING IS ESSENTIAL - Oura Ring 5 uses unique sizing different from standard jewelry rings and other Oura Ring generations; use the Oura Ring 5 Sizing Kit to find your perfect fit before purchasing
  • EVERYDAY HEALTH SENSING - Oura tracks over 50 health metrics, including sleep, activity, stress, heart health, metabolic health and women’s health metrics. Oura seamlessly integrates with over 40 apps including Natural Cycles, Strava, & more
  • OURA MEMBERSHIP - First month of membership is included with purchase, for new members only. Subscription is 5.99/mo afterwards. Membership is tied to your account via the Oura App, not your physical ring
  • REBUILT FOR GREATER ACCURACY - Oura Ring 5 has been re-engineered and reconfigured, providing more precise personal health data. Larger, smarter sensors bring research-grade accuracy—all in Oura’s smallest form factor yet

Most rings use optical heart-rate sensors, motion sensors, temperature sensing and sensors related to blood oxygen. The ring sends its data to a phone app, where proprietary algorithms turn measurements into sleep, readiness, stress or recovery scores.

That makes a ring quieter and less distracting than a smartwatch. It also makes it less useful for live information: most have no display, standalone GPS, navigation, notifications or on-device workout controls. Smart rings are primarily sleep, recovery and wellness trackers, not replacements for serious sports watches. Pocket-lint’s 2024 overview and Digital Trends’ buying guide make the same fundamental distinction.

1. Best overall: Oura Ring Gen 3 and Oura Ring 4

For most of 2024, the Oura Ring Gen 3 was the safest all-round recommendation. Its advantage was not simply the sensor list. Several competitors could record heart rate, temperature, movement and blood-oxygen-related trends. Oura’s advantage was the maturity of the software interpreting those signals.

Oura offered particularly strong sleep and recovery reporting, readable trends, readiness and sleep features, stress tools, broad health integrations and support for both iPhone and Android. It was also one of the more developed choices for women’s-health features. The app generally did a better job than cheaper rivals of explaining what a measurement might mean and what a user could do next.

The important 2024 complication is the Oura Ring 4. It launched late in the year, so earlier guides often evaluated Gen 3 while later comparisons discussed Ring 4. Do not treat Gen 3 specifications, battery claims, pricing or membership terms as if they automatically describe Ring 4. Tech Advisor’s dated comparison is useful for understanding that transition.

Gen 3 was cited at about $299 for a base model in contemporary coverage, while later coverage placed Ring 4 at about $349 to start, with premium finishes costing more. Oura membership was listed at approximately $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year in the relevant coverage. Verify the model and date before comparing prices.

Choose Oura when: sleep and recovery are your priorities, you use either iPhone or Android, and you are willing to pay for the interpretation layer. The membership is the reason not to buy it, not a minor footnote. Without accepting that recurring cost, Ultrahuman or RingConn is usually a more coherent alternative.

2. Best for Samsung Galaxy users: Samsung Galaxy Ring

The Samsung Galaxy Ring became Oura’s most significant mainstream rival in 2024. Its strongest selling point was the ecosystem rather than a universally superior standalone app.

The ring integrates with Samsung Health and works alongside compatible Galaxy Watches. Samsung also included features such as sleep, heart-rate, stress, temperature and blood-oxygen-related tracking, plus automatic recognition for some activities. A compatible Galaxy phone can enable double-pinch gesture features. The ring charges in a case rather than only on a conventional cradle.

Samsung’s ecosystem advantage can be meaningful. Contemporary testing reported that pairing the Galaxy Ring with a Galaxy Watch could extend battery life by up to 30% because some tracking is shared between the devices. That is a Samsung ecosystem benefit, not a guarantee for every Galaxy Ring owner.

The major limitation is compatibility. The cited 2024 comparisons describe the Galaxy Ring as Android-only, with the best experience tied to Samsung phones and Samsung Health. It is therefore a poor recommendation for iPhone owners and a less obvious choice for people using a non-Samsung Android phone.

U.S. coverage listed the Galaxy Ring at approximately $399. That was a historical 2024 reference price, not a current quotation.

Choose Samsung when: you already own a compatible Galaxy phone or Galaxy Watch, want Samsung Health integration and do not want a recurring membership. If you want the richest standalone cross-platform software, Oura remains the more flexible choice.

3. Best premium smart ring without a subscription: Ultrahuman Ring AIR

The Ultrahuman Ring AIR was the clearest premium answer to Oura’s membership fee. Its hardware purchase was positioned as subscription-free, while its app concentrated on sleep, activity, recovery, circadian-rhythm and wellness guidance.

Ultrahuman’s approach was more fitness- and metabolic-health-oriented than some basic smart rings. It offered recovery-style insights, caffeine and circadian guidance, and a broader wellness ecosystem. It supported iOS and Android subject to the app’s requirements. Contemporary coverage cited an upfront price of approximately $349 and claimed battery life of around six days.

It is important not to say that Ultrahuman simply contains all of Oura’s features. The two companies differ in algorithms, integrations, validation, coaching style and feature maturity. Ultrahuman was a compelling choice for people who wanted detailed guidance without a monthly bill, but Oura’s software was generally the more established and interpretable platform in 2024.

The AIR’s lightweight, slim design helped make continuous wear comfortable. Its trade-offs included a higher upfront cost than budget rings and fewer finish or customization choices than some premium competitors.

Choose Ultrahuman when: you refuse subscriptions, want more wellness and recovery guidance than a basic tracker provides, and are comfortable paying a premium upfront. It is not a substitute for a GPS sports watch during serious training.

4. Best value and battery life: RingConn Gen 2

RingConn Gen 2 was the late-2024 value pick for buyers who cared most about battery life and total ownership cost. It had no subscription in the cited coverage, used a charging case and offered core sleep, heart-rate, temperature, blood-oxygen-related, stress and activity tracking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Late-2024 coverage cited 10-plus days of battery life for Gen 2. That is a claimed or reported figure, not a guaranteed result. Battery varies with ring size, sensor use, workout tracking, temperature, firmware, syncing behaviour and battery age. The original RingConn was commonly cited at approximately seven days, so the model generation matters.

RingConn’s lower cost came with real compromises. Exercise tracking was less sophisticated, the app was more basic than Oura’s or Ultrahuman’s, and some coverage raised limitations around background syncing. It is better understood as a low-cost continuous wellness tracker than as a premium coaching platform.

Choose RingConn when: you want long endurance, no recurring fee and useful basic trends, and you can live with less refined coaching and weaker workout features. Gen 2 is the more attractive late-2024 choice; earlier buyers may have been comparing the original model.

5. Other smart rings worth considering in 2024

Circular Ring Slim

The Circular Ring Slim appealed to buyers who valued a very light, minimalist and subscription-free design. It was included in some 2024 roundups and positioned as a sleep and wellness tracker.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It should not automatically be placed beside Oura and Samsung in a top tier. Availability varied by market, app and firmware maturity were less established, and review evidence was thinner. Battery claims also needed to be distinguished from practical endurance. Check local stock, support terms, return policy and current software compatibility before buying. Digital Trends treated Circular as an emerging product rather than an established universal winner.

Amazfit Helio Ring

The Amazfit Helio Ring was worth watching for people already invested in Amazfit’s recovery ecosystem. Its value depended heavily on actual availability, regional pricing, phone compatibility and how much functionality improved when paired with an Amazfit watch.

Because 2024 availability and commercial details varied, it would be misleading to rank Helio above established alternatives solely on the basis of a roundup label. Treat it as a possible ecosystem option, and verify those details for the relevant country and date.

Movano Evie Ring

The Movano Evie Ring took a more specialist approach, with women-focused positioning, no-subscription messaging and an open-ring design intended to accommodate changes in finger size.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That design may appeal to people who find conventional closed rings uncomfortable. However, launch availability, supported features, app maturity and cross-platform support were narrower questions in 2024. A women-focused product should not automatically be described as clinically superior for women’s health; the claim is primarily a product-positioning distinction unless independent evidence supports more.

Battery figures in this table are historical claims or coverage references, not promises of real-world endurance. “Works with” should also be read as basic platform compatibility unless the manufacturer confirms full feature parity.

Oura versus Samsung versus Ultrahuman versus RingConn

Sleep and recovery

Oura was the strongest default for readers who wanted a mature explanation of sleep, readiness, stress and recovery trends. Samsung was compelling when Samsung Health and a Galaxy Watch were already central to the user’s routine. Ultrahuman offered detailed recovery and lifestyle guidance without a membership. RingConn supplied the important fundamentals at lower long-term cost, but with less sophisticated interpretation.

Exercise

None of these rings should be selected primarily for live exercise data. A ring may detect some activities or record heart-rate trends, but it generally cannot replace a watch for pace, distance, GPS, live heart rate, intervals, navigation or workout controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ultrahuman was the strongest fit for a wellness buyer who wanted more fitness-oriented coaching. That still does not make it a serious GPS sports-watch replacement. For running, cycling, swimming or structured training, use a sports watch and treat the ring as an overnight recovery companion.

Battery and charging

RingConn had the clearest battery advantage on the 2024 claims, particularly Gen 2. Ultrahuman’s approximately six-day claim was respectable but less exceptional. Samsung’s charging case was convenient, and Galaxy Watch pairing could improve endurance in Samsung’s ecosystem. Oura’s endurance depends on the generation and usage, so Gen 3 and Ring 4 should not be merged into one specification.

Total cost

A subscription-free ring is not automatically cheaper in every meaningful sense. Compare five-year ownership cost with software quality, integrations, support and the features available without a membership.

Using the cited Oura membership figure, five years of membership would total about $359.40 when paid monthly, before hardware and tax. The annual figure would total about $349.95 over five years. That is why an initially cheaper Gen 3 could become more expensive than a subscription-free alternative, while still offering software that some buyers consider worth paying for.

How to choose the right smart ring

  • iPhone owner: Start with Oura or Ultrahuman. Galaxy Ring was not the sensible 2024 choice because the cited comparisons described it as Android-only.
  • Samsung Galaxy owner: Choose Galaxy Ring if Samsung Health, Galaxy Watch synergy and no membership matter most. Choose Oura if cross-platform flexibility and more mature recovery software matter more.
  • Subscription-averse buyer: Choose Ultrahuman for premium wellness guidance or RingConn for lower cost and longer battery life.
  • Athlete: Keep a GPS sports watch for training. Add a ring only if sleep and recovery trends justify another device.
  • Sleep-focused buyer: Oura remains the safest 2024 recommendation, provided the membership is acceptable.
  • Budget buyer: Consider the original RingConn or a discounted Oura Gen 3. The first prioritizes low long-term cost; the second prioritizes software maturity.
  • Design-sensitive buyer: Consider Circular or Evie only after confirming availability, return terms, support and feature completeness in your market.
  • Existing smartwatch owner: A ring can complement the watch rather than replace it: ring overnight for sleep and recovery, watch during workouts for live data.

What to know before buying

Fit is a prerequisite, not an accessory detail

Do not use an ordinary jewellery-ring size as a substitute for the manufacturer’s sizing system. If a sizing kit is available:

  1. Order the official sizing kit.
  2. Wear the test ring for a full day and overnight.
  3. Check the fit in the morning, when fingers may be larger.
  4. Try the intended finger and an adjacent finger.
  5. Confirm that the sensor orientation mark can be worn correctly.
  6. Consider heat, exercise, seasonal swelling, pregnancy and weight changes.

The ring should remain secure without being painfully tight. Do not force it off a swollen finger; seek assistance if circulation is restricted. Poor fit can reduce comfort and sensor contact, and may make the device unusable overnight. Digital Trends highlights sizing as one of the central smart-ring buying issues.

Expect estimates, not diagnoses

Sleep stages are algorithmic estimates. Readiness and stress scores are proprietary interpretations. Skin temperature is most useful for trends and deviations, not as a replacement for a thermometer. Blood-oxygen-related readings can be affected by movement, fit, circulation and skin contact. Exercise heart-rate performance may differ substantially from resting or overnight performance.

Different rings can give different scores for the same night. Use them for trends and behaviour change, not to diagnose illness or replace medical advice. No ring in this comparison should be treated as an emergency medical device without specific regulatory evidence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check water resistance and hand safety

Water resistance is model-specific. Later comparison coverage described the Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring 4 as water-resistant to 100 metres, but that should not be generalized to every ring or every water activity. Check the relevant model’s official rating before swimming or prolonged submersion.

Remove a ring for weightlifting, climbing, contact sports, manual labour and work around machinery. A small wearable can still catch, compress or injure a finger.

Are smart rings worth buying instead of a smartwatch?

A smart ring is worth buying if your main goal is unobtrusive, continuous sleep and recovery tracking. It is not worth replacing a smartwatch if you depend on live workout metrics, GPS, navigation, notifications, music controls or emergency features.

For many people, the best arrangement is both: a ring for overnight wear and passive trends, and a watch for exercise and real-time feedback. The extra cost and charging routine are the obvious drawbacks, but the devices solve different problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The bottom line

For the 2024 market, choose Oura for the most complete sleep and recovery experience, Samsung Galaxy Ring for a compatible Galaxy ecosystem, Ultrahuman Ring AIR for premium subscription-free insights, and RingConn Gen 2 for battery life and low long-term cost. Circular and Evie made sense only for specific design or audience needs, and Amazfit Helio depended heavily on local availability and ecosystem fit.

The unavoidable compromises are simple: rings are discreet but poor at live workout feedback; no-subscription products reduce long-term cost but may offer less mature software; and the best sensor data is useless if the ring does not fit well enough to wear every night.
