The Bvlgari Aluminium Sorayama Special Edition, reference 103703, is a 40 mm automatic watch limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide. Its car-inspired character comes from Bulgari’s stated references to the metallic finishes and mechanical details seen in 1930s and 1940s cars and aircraft—not from a documented partnership with a carmaker. The result pairs a silver-toned, swirling dial and propeller-like luminous markers with the Aluminium line’s black rubber bezel and bracelet.
What makes the design car-inspired?
Bulgari Japan framed the design around metal surface treatments and detail work associated with cars and aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s. The reference is an artistic interpretation of Hajime Sorayama’s visual world and that period’s mechanical progress; the official description does not identify an automobile manufacturer as a collaborator. Bulgari Japan’s official product listing and its 2022 launch announcement describe the design.
The silver-toned dial has a circular, swirling finish, with luminous markers shaped to evoke propellers. Bulgari also calls attention to the artist’s “lucky number” two among the bar indexes. These details give the watch its mechanical and aviation-era cues without turning it into an automotive-branded timepiece.

Bulgari Japan announced production of 1,000 pieces worldwide and a Japanese release date of 29 August 2022. Its announced Japanese launch price was ¥407,000 including tax. That is historical launch pricing for Japan, not a current retail price or an estimate of resale value. These release details come from Bulgari Japan’s 2022 announcement.
How it differs from the Gran Turismo edition
Reference 103703 is the Sorayama time-and-date model. It should not be confused with the later Bulgari Aluminium Gran Turismo Special Edition, reference 103893, which is a separate chronograph edition. The two references have different design briefs and functions; the Gran Turismo reference’s specifications or edition size should not be attributed to the Sorayama watch. The 2022 Japanese launch announcement establishes the original edition size, release date and local launch price, but it does not establish today’s availability, asking prices or resale value. For a specific pre-owned example, check its reference, condition, service records and the presence and consistency of its limited-edition markings.
