Today’s smaller Constellations carry that design language into updated 25 mm and 28 mm models, but they are not automatically exact reissues of a particular vintage Manhattan. “Most iconic” is a judgment, not a measured ranking.
What is the Constellation Manhattan?
The Manhattan is a design milestone within OMEGA’s Constellation family, a line the brand says began in 1952. OMEGA dates the Manhattan design to 1982 and identifies its signature details as four screwed claws holding the sapphire crystal and half-moon facets at each end of the case. These features, together with an integrated-bracelet look, helped give the watch a recognizable identity. OMEGA’s account of its Met Gala 2026 watches describes specific vintage examples, including a 23 mm two-tone gold watch worn by Nicole Kidman and a 33 mm steel-and-yellow-gold watch worn by Colman Domingo. Those examples illustrate the design; they do not define the dimensions or materials of every Manhattan.
Why is it considered iconic?
The case design gives the Manhattan a recognizable silhouette, while its continued presence in the Constellation family connects the historic watch to current models. The cultural association with women’s watch styling also has a named chapter: OMEGA says Cindy Crawford became its first ambassador in 1995 and made the final design decision for the Constellation “My Choice” collection in 1996. The brand says the watch became known as the “Cindy watch”; that is OMEGA’s account of the partnership, not proof of universal popularity. Read OMEGA’s history of Cindy Crawford and the Constellation.
OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann described the relationship this way in a 2026 brand statement: “OMEGA has been on a beautiful journey with Cindy. More than an ambassador, she is emblematic of our women’s watchmaking and especially the Constellation collection, which is so close to her heart.” The remark is promotional and should be read in that context. What do current 25 mm and 28 mm Constellations offer?
On 26 September 2025, OMEGA announced eight polished-steel Constellation references in 25 mm and 28 mm sizes. The announcement describes these specifications for those models:
- Movement: OMEGA Calibre 4061 quartz in both sizes.
- Crystal and water resistance: domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and a stated 30 m water resistance.
- 25 mm dials: blue aventurine glass, or silvery sun-brushed dials with applied 18K Sedna Gold elements.
- 28 mm dials: burgundy or peacock-blue tinted lacquer, varnished black, or silvery galvanic treatment.
- Bezel and bracelet options: diamond-set bezels or polished bezels engraved with Roman numerals; mono-rang bracelets with butterfly clasps and a 2 mm comfort adjustment.
These are details from the cited release, not universal specifications for every current Constellation. OMEGA’s Japan product page for reference 131.10.28.60.02.001 separately identifies a 28 mm stainless-steel Constellation with Calibre 4061 and an Observatory medallion on its caseback. How should you compare a vintage Manhattan with a current Constellation?
First decide whether you want the period-specific vintage design or a current watch that continues the family’s visual cues. Then compare the actual references rather than relying on the collection name alone.
| What to compare | Questions to check |
|---|---|
| Era and identity | Is it a vintage 1982-era Manhattan, or a current Constellation with related claws and case details? |
| Fit | What is the stated case diameter, and how does the bracelet sit and adjust on your wrist? Diameter alone does not establish fit. |
| Movement | What movement does the exact reference use? The cited current 25 mm and 28 mm release specifies Calibre 4061 quartz; do not assume that applies to every Manhattan or Constellation. |
| Materials and appearance | Check the specific case and bracelet metals, dial color, Roman numerals, and whether the bezel is diamond-set. |
| Condition and provenance | For a vintage watch, confirm the reference, originality, condition, and service history with an appropriate specialist. The cited sources do not establish market values or authenticate individual watches. |
| Water resistance | The 30 m figure applies to the cited current models. A vintage watch’s resistance depends on its condition and seals and needs a watch-specific assessment. |

Choose a vintage Manhattan if the period design is the point
A vintage example offers the specific character of its era. Identify the reference before comparing size or materials, and treat condition, originality, and service history as separate questions from appearance.

Choose a current small Constellation if you want updated specifications
The announced 25 mm and 28 mm models pair the Constellation design vocabulary with quartz movements and contemporary dial and bracelet options. Use the exact reference to confirm specifications; a family resemblance does not make a current model a direct reissue of a particular 1982 watch.

OMEGA’s 2026 Constellation Observatory is a distinct collection, not another specification set for the 25 mm and 28 mm quartz watches. Its 39.4 mm size and Master Chronometer claims should not be applied to those smaller models. OMEGA describes the Observatory collection as using new movements and a novel two-hand certification method. OMEGA’s overview of the Constellation Observatory.
