Citizen makes Promaster Aqualand watches with electronic depth meters, but its official listings for the commonly cited BN2038-01L and JP2007-09W do not identify either as a full-lume dial model. They confirm luminous hands and markers on the BN2038-01L and a luminous green three-hand dial on the JP2007-09W. If you’re trying to identify a watch described as “Full Lume,” start with its reference and caliber—not the Aqualand name alone.
Does Citizen make a full-lume Promaster Aqualand?
The available official specifications do not establish a specific full-lume Promaster Aqualand reference. Citizen says the BN2038-01L has luminous hands and markers; its US product page does not say the entire dial is luminous. Citizen describes the JP2007-09W as having a “high legibility luminous green three-hand dial,” but that wording also does not confirm that every part of the dial glows.
“Full Lume” appears in informal community wording, but that phrase alone does not identify a model or prove a manufacturer specification. To verify a particular watch, check the reference on its caseback and compare its dial and movement with documentation for that exact reference. Do not infer a full-lume finish from the Aqualand family name.
Which Aqualand references are documented?
These two official US listings show why model identity matters: both are Aqualand depth-meter watches, but they use different calibers and describe lume differently.

| Reference | Movement and power | Depth and water resistance | Documented lume description |
|---|---|---|---|
| BN2038-01L | J250 Eco-Drive | Depth display to 70 m; 200 m/20 bar scuba-diving water resistance | Luminous hands and markers |
| JP2007-09W | C520 quartz | Underwater depth display; 200 m/20 bar water resistance | “High legibility luminous green three-hand dial” |
Specifications in this table are from Citizen’s BN2038-01L product page and JP2007-09W product page. Neither listing calls the dial fully luminescent. The BN2038-01L is also listed with a blue dial, polyurethane strap, 46 mm case width, 21.55 mm lug width, mineral crystal, maximum-depth memory, rapid-ascent alarm, auto-start dive mode and power-reserve indicator. Citizen’s Spain listing gives its case width as 46.1 mm and describes it as ISO 6425 certified; regional listing details should not be assumed to be identical across markets.
What does the depth meter measure?
Depth display and water resistance are separate specifications. The BN2038-01L’s 70 m figure describes its depth display, while 200 m/20 bar describes its water resistance. The figures are not competing statements of one limit, and water resistance is not a promise that the depth display measures to that depth.

For the C520 caliber used in the JP2007-09W, Citizen’s manual specifies depth indication from 1 to 80 m in 0.1 m units; readings above 80 m are out of range. It gives accuracy as ±(3% of the indicated value + 30 cm/1 ft) at constant temperature, with an assured accuracy range of 10–40°C. The manual also cautions that surrounding-temperature changes affect accuracy. These details apply to the C520, not automatically to other Aqualand calibers. See Citizen’s C520 caliber manual.
How to identify the watch you have seen
- Find the caseback reference. Record the full model code rather than relying on a seller’s nickname or a dial description.
- Check the caliber. Compare it with the reference-specific product page or manual. For example, BN2038-01L uses J250 Eco-Drive, while JP2007-09W uses C520 quartz.
- Match the physical details. Compare the dial color and layout, case, strap, and depth-display style with official images and specifications for that reference.
- Verify the lume claim separately. Look for documentation that explicitly describes the whole dial or its luminous areas. “Luminous hands and markers” and “luminous green three-hand dial” are not unambiguous confirmation of a fully luminescent dial.
If the reference is missing or unreadable, a photo or family name is not enough to confirm the exact variant. Avoid treating a marketplace label such as “full lume” as a specification unless it can be tied to reliable documentation for that reference.

Why Aqualand references can be easy to confuse
Citizen dates the Aqualand’s electronic-depth-meter origin to 1985. The company says the original gauge measured to 80 m in 0.1 m increments; Citizen Design’s archive identifies the first model as the quartz C022. Citizen later renamed the line Promaster Aqualand in 1989, according to a 2018 release.
The family includes different designs and generations, so its features should not be blended together. Citizen’s design article describes an analog B740 Aqualand whose central depth hand shares an axis and whose minute track corresponds to 1 m; it notes luminescent hands and lume applied to the bezel numeral “60.” The archive also records a J250 Eco-Drive Aqualand from 2014 with depth measurement to 70 m. These examples show varied depth displays and lume treatments, not proof of a particular full-lume reference.

The announcement establishes its caliber and limited-edition status, not that it is the “Full Lume” watch. See Citizen’s 2025 announcement.
