The Hamilton PSR is a modern digital watch with a distinctive space-age design, not the watch Roger Moore wore as James Bond. That screen role belonged to the vintage Pulsar P2 in Live and Let Die; the PSR revives the P2’s shape with a modern hybrid display and current watch specifications.
Is the Hamilton PSR the watch James Bond wore?
No. Roger Moore wore a Hamilton Pulsar P2 2900 in the 1973 film Live and Let Die, according to Bond Lifestyle’s identification of the film watch. The Hamilton PSR is a later model inspired by the P2, not the original screen-worn watch.
The distinction matters: the PSR has a genuine Bond-era design connection, but its appeal does not depend on being movie memorabilia. Hamilton presents it as a revival of the early digital watch’s broad, cushion-shaped case, updated with a display that behaves differently from the original LED-only approach.
What is the Hamilton PSR?
The PSR is Hamilton’s modern interpretation of its Pulsar digital-watch design. According to Swatch Group’s history of the Pulsar, Hamilton introduced the Pulsar at a New York press conference on 6 May 1970. The P1 reached the market in 1972, followed by the stainless-steel P2 in 1973. The P2’s more rounded case and improved chip module helped move the concept toward a mass-market digital watch.

The modern PSR draws on the P2’s wide cushion shape but uses a hybrid LCD/OLED display. In its 18 March 2020 announcement, Hamilton described the watch as “a timely reminder of where and when the digital world began, and what digital timekeeping once meant.” That is the manufacturer’s description of the design’s significance; the practical appeal is its combination of retro proportions and a simple, unusual digital readout.
How the PSR display works
The display combines reflective LCD and emissive OLED elements. The LCD keeps the time visible in daylight, while the OLED numerals illuminate when you press the button. This gives the watch a largely understated display at rest and a bright digital readout on demand.

Its operation is intentionally straightforward. Hamilton’s PSR instruction manual specifies an AM/PM time display and these controls:
- Show illuminated time: briefly press the button.
- Show seconds: while the time is illuminated, press the button again.
- Enter time-setting mode: hold the button for three seconds, then follow the numbered setting steps in the manual.
If left alone, the display returns to standard mode after four seconds; when the seconds display is active, it returns after ten seconds. The manual also says the standard display flashes when the battery needs replacing and directs owners to a Hamilton-approved maintenance centre or Hamilton point of sale for battery changes.

Hamilton PSR models and specifications
Hamilton’s official PSR page lists a standard stainless-steel model and a gold-tone limited edition. The published case dimensions are 40.8 × 34.7 mm; some regional Hamilton product pages round these to 41 × 35 mm in the size heading.
| Reference | Case and bracelet | Display and movement | Crystal and water resistance | Production |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H52414130 | Stainless steel | Hybrid LCD/OLED; digital quartz | Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating; 10 bar (100 m) | Not stated on Hamilton’s official PSR page |
| H52424130 | Yellow-gold PVD-coated stainless steel | Hybrid LCD/OLED; digital quartz | Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating; 10 bar (100 m) | Limited to 1,970 pieces, according to Hamilton’s official PSR page |
Both references are listed with stainless-steel bracelets. Hamilton’s published water-resistance rating is 10 bar (100 m); this is a specification, not a guarantee that every kind of water activity is suitable. Check Hamilton’s guidance for use and care rather than treating the number as a substitute for activity-specific advice.

- RETRO 1980s-INSPIRED ANALOG-DIGITAL DESIGN The Casio AQ-800E-7A reimagines the iconic AQ-450 design from the 1980s with a modern vintage aesthetic. A separate analog dial and LCD display combine classic watch styling with convenient digital functionality, while the grid-pattern dial, simple bar indexes, and angular case create a distinctive retro look.
- SLIM, LIGHTWEIGHT CASE WITH STAINLESS STEEL BAND Measuring 40.7 × 32.1 × 8.7 mm (L × W × H) and weighing 52 grams, the AQ-800E-7A has a slim profile designed for comfortable everyday wear. The case features a resin/chrome-plated construction and resin glass, while the stainless steel band with adjustable clasp fits approximately 150–205 mm wrists.
- DUAL TIME & 1/100-SECOND STOPWATCH Keep track of another time zone with the Dual Time function, while the 1/100-second stopwatch measures elapsed time with a capacity of up to 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds. These practical functions add versatility without taking away from the watch's clean vintage appearance.
- DAILY ALARM, HOURLY TIME SIGNAL & EVERYDAY CONVENIENCE Stay on schedule with a daily alarm and hourly time signal. The watch also features an auto-calendar, 12/24-hour format, and separate analog and digital time displays showing hour, minute, second, PM, month, date, and day.
- WATER RESISTANT & POWERED BY SR920W BATTERY Designed for everyday wear, the AQ-800E-7A features water resistance for routine situations such as rain and hand washing. A SR920W battery provides approximately 3 years of battery life, while quartz accuracy is approximately ±30 seconds per month.
Who is the Hamilton PSR for?
The PSR is a natural fit for someone drawn to retro-futurist industrial design, unusual digital displays, or the history of electronic watches. Its screen history adds context, but the case and display give it an identity beyond its Bond association.
Its design is also a deliberate statement rather than a conventional, low-profile digital watch. The 40.8 × 34.7 mm case has a broad cushion shape, so dimensions alone do not establish how it will feel on an individual wrist. If fit matters, try it on or compare its shape with a watch you already wear.

Quick Recap
What to consider before choosing one
- Display behavior: the time is visible in daylight, while the OLED illumination is button-activated. It is not an always-lit display.
- Functions: the documented controls cover time, seconds, and setting; the PSR is presented as a time-focused digital watch rather than a feature-packed smartwatch.
- Size and finish: compare the 40.8 × 34.7 mm case dimensions with your wrist and decide whether the steel or gold PVD finish suits your style.
- Battery service: Hamilton directs owners to an approved maintenance centre or point of sale for battery replacement.
- Purchase details: check the exact reference, regional price, and stock with Hamilton or a retailer, since those details can vary and are not established by the product specifications alone.
