For a wristwatch, the benchmark is different: Vacheron Constantin calls its 2025 Solaria Ultra Grand Complication La Première the most complicated wristwatch ever made. Counts depend on what a manufacturer classifies as a complication, so these are best read as attributed records rather than a permanent, independently standardized ranking.
How the complication counts compare
The figures below are those reported by the named manufacturers; they are not a single standardized industry audit. Component totals are not directly comparable with complication totals, and the Star Caliber 2000 figure is given as parts rather than components.

Why there is more than one “most complicated” watch
The overall title and the wristwatch title answer different questions. The Berkley leads the overall complication count among the watches listed; Solaria is identified by Vacheron Constantin specifically as a wristwatch record. Franck Muller also markets the Aeternitas Mega as the world’s most complicated wristwatch. Those claims do not align into one uncontested ranking: the manufacturers use their own descriptions and counts, and the available figures do not establish that every brand counts complications by an identical method.

A complication is a watch function beyond simply displaying hours, minutes and seconds. A high count can encompass distinct kinds of work: calendar indications, astronomical displays and striking or chiming mechanisms, for example. The number alone does not explain a watch’s size, the complexity of a particular mechanism, or how practical the watch is to use.

The Berkley Grand Complication: the overall benchmark
Vacheron Constantin presented the Berkley in 2024 as the successor to its own earlier record-setting Reference 57260. Its most distinctive calendar feature is a Chinese perpetual calendar mechanically programmed through 2200. That gives the record a specific technical dimension beyond a large tally: the calendar is designed to handle a calendar system with rules different from the familiar Gregorian cycle.
The Berkley is the answer to “What is the most complicated watch ever made?” when the question means the greatest complication count in the manufacturer claims covered here. It should not be confused with the wristwatch-specific record.

To prevent running or inaccurate time, it is advised that you verify the time periodically and wind up the chain 15–20 times.

Reference 57260: the earlier Vacheron Constantin record
When introduced in 2015, Reference 57260 was described by Vacheron Constantin as the most complicated watch. Its eight-year development and substantial movement show why raw complication counts tell only part of the story: a highly integrated mechanism also involves designing and coordinating the components that make its functions work.

Solaria: the wristwatch record and its astronomical focus
Vacheron Constantin’s 2025 Solaria Ultra Grand Complication La Première is the clearest wristwatch-specific answer in the manufacturer announcements covered here. Its five rare astronomical functions give it a distinct emphasis within this list, while an innovative Westminster minute repeater brings a chiming mechanism into the same watch.
Solaria’s case measures 45 mm across and 14.99 mm thick. Vacheron Constantin says development took eight years and resulted in 13 patent applications. Those details help explain the engineering ambition, but they do not make the watch’s complication count directly comparable to a different maker’s without a shared counting standard.

Calibre 89: Patek Philippe’s historical milestone
Patek Philippe’s Calibre 89 followed the Henry Graves Supercomplication in the manufacture’s history and marked a later high point in its pursuit of mechanical complexity. It is a useful historical comparison with the modern Vacheron Constantin record pieces: its significance lies not only in its count but also in its place between an earlier landmark and the later proliferation of record-focused grand complications.

Aeternitas Mega: a wristwatch counterpoint
Franck Muller describes the Aeternitas Mega as the world’s most complicated wristwatch. That is the manufacturer’s own positioning, not a universal title that resolves the different wristwatch claims. Its reported count places it below Solaria’s count in the figures shown above, while no shared method for comparing the two makers’ totals is established.

Henry Graves Supercomplication: the foundational landmark
Commissioned for Henry Graves and completed in 1933, Patek Philippe’s Supercomplication is a landmark in the history of highly complicated watches. Patek’s account notes that it was later surpassed by Calibre 89. Its importance is historical as well as mechanical: it belongs to an earlier era of bespoke watchmaking, before the later record-setting projects on this list.
Grandmaster Chime: Patek Philippe’s most complicated wristwatch
Patek Philippe identifies the Grandmaster Chime as its most complicated wristwatch. Its five chiming modes make sound a defining part of its mechanical identity, rather than treating the complication count as the only point of interest. It is a wristwatch-specific answer within Patek Philippe’s own range, distinct from the overall record claim made for the Berkley.
Star Caliber 2000: parts, astronomy and sound
The Star Caliber 2000 is notable both for its reported parts total and for its place in Patek Philippe’s complex-watch history. Its 2000/2001 launch context is retained here because the manufacturer material identifies both years; the available information does not resolve that into a single launch year. As with the other watches, the parts total is a measure of construction, not another way to count complications.
