MB&F has not confirmed a Legacy Machine N°1 EVO. The original LM1 remains a past machine in the brand’s catalog, while “EVO” describes a later case-and-protection approach first used on the LM Perpetual EVO in 2020. The result is an important distinction: the LM1’s design may invite EVO comparisons, but an official LM1 EVO launch cannot be reported from the currently documented material.
What the original Legacy Machine N°1 is
MB&F introduced Legacy Machine N°1 in 2011 as its first round-cased watch. It placed an unusually theatrical movement inside a classically shaped case: a large balance wheel appears to float above the mechanism, while two separate time displays sit to either side.

The two dials can be set independently, making the LM1 a genuine dual-time watch rather than a single display with a decorative second hand. A vertical indicator shows the remaining power reserve. MB&F credits Jean-François Mojon and Kari Voutilainen with developing the movement for the brand.
Maximilian Büsser summarized the idea on MB&F’s model page with the line, “Legacy Machine No.1 was my answer.” The watch was also recognized at the 2012 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, receiving both the Public Prize, voted by horology enthusiasts, and the Best Men’s Watch Prize, selected by the jury.

What “EVO” means at MB&F
MB&F says its EVO case design first appeared in 2020 with the LM Perpetual EVO. In the brand’s description, the package combines several practical changes:
Rank #2
- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- 80 metres of water resistance
- A screw-down crown
- An integrated rubber strap
- A FlexRing shock-absorbing system positioned between the case and movement
The concept is therefore more than a new color or material. EVO is a case-and-wearability treatment intended to make an elaborate MB&F movement more resistant to everyday knocks and more usable away from a display cabinet.
Those features are not automatically specifications of every EVO watch. For example, MB&F documents the LM Split Escapement EVO as a grade 5 titanium watch measuring 44 × 17.5 mm with 80 metres of water resistance. That information belongs to the Split Escapement EVO, not to the original LM1.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
LM1 versus the documented EVO approach
| Area | Legacy Machine N°1 | EVO concept documented by MB&F |
|---|---|---|
| Primary emphasis | Visible mechanical architecture and dual-time display | Greater case protection and practical wearability |
| Balance | Prominent 14 mm suspended balance wheel | Implementation varies by model |
| Time display | Two independently set time zones | Depends on the underlying model |
| Winding and reserve | Manual winding; 45-hour reserve | Depends on the underlying model |
| Water resistance | Not established as an EVO specification for LM1 | 80 m in MB&F’s described EVO package |
| Crown and strap | Historical LM1 specification does not establish the EVO package | Screw-down crown and integrated rubber strap in the documented package |
| Shock protection | Not identified as an LM1 specification | FlexRing system between case and movement |
Has MB&F actually launched an LM1 EVO?
Not according to the official MB&F material currently documented. The brand’s collection information identifies Legacy Machine N°1 as a past machine and lists EVO models including LM101 EVO, LM Perpetual EVO, LM Sequential EVO and LM Split Escapement EVO. It does not establish a model-specific Legacy Machine N°1 EVO announcement.
That leaves several possibilities: the headline may be using “EVO treatment” speculatively, it may refer to material not reflected in the reviewed catalog pages, or it may be a naming error. Until MB&F publishes an LM1-specific announcement or specification sheet, claims about an LM1 EVO’s water resistance, crown, strap, shock system, dimensions or movement changes remain unverified.

What an authenticated LM1 EVO announcement would need to clarify
A real release would need to distinguish the original LM1 movement from any revised case architecture. The useful questions for collectors are:
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match- Does the watch retain the original manually wound, 279-component movement and 45-hour reserve?
- Are the two independent time zones and vertical power reserve unchanged?
- What case material and dimensions are used, and is the thickness different from the historical 44 × 16 mm specification?
- Does it receive the 80-metre rating, screw-down crown, integrated rubber strap and FlexRing system associated with EVO?
- Is it a current-production model, a limited edition or a retrospective designation for an existing LM1 variant?
Those details matter because “EVO” can describe a broad engineering package, while “Legacy Machine N°1” identifies a specific historical movement and display concept. Combining the names without a model-specific release risks attributing later features to a watch for which they have not been documented.

The practical takeaway for buyers and collectors
The original LM1 is identifiable by its 14 mm suspended balance, dual independently set time displays and vertical power-reserve indication. Its published movement is manual-winding, uses 279 components and 23 jewels, and runs for 45 hours. The historical case family spans several precious-metal and technical-material options at 44 × 16 mm.
“EVO” should currently be read as MB&F’s later case-and-protection direction, not proof that the LM1 has been relaunched in EVO form. Check the exact reference, edition and official specification sheet before treating any listing or announcement as an LM1 EVO.
