Short answer: the Pixel Watch 3 remains an excellent everyday Android smartwatch if you can buy it at least $100–$150 cheaper than a comparable Pixel Watch 4. It delivers the Google and Fitbit experience most Pixel owners want, in two comfortable sizes, with notifications, payments, sleep tracking, workouts, calls, maps, and LTE available.
The Pixel Watch 4 is the better piece of hardware. Its longer battery life, faster charging, brighter display, newer connectivity, and repairable design make it the safer long-term purchase when the price gap is small. But at the time of checking, a US Walmart listing showed a 45mm LTE Pixel Watch 3 for $246.99—far below its $499.99 launch price. That was a retailer-specific observed price, not proof of an all-time low, so verify the exact seller, condition, and configuration before buying.

#1 Best Overall
- The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 45mm screen is twice as bright and 40% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]
- Maximize your performance with advanced running features; build custom run workouts and get real-time guidance and advanced form tracking[3]
- Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]
- Know what your body is ready for each day with readiness; it uses sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to show if you’re ready to take on a workout or prioritize recovery[3]
- Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]
Buy neither if you need several days of battery life, serious multisport training tools, a rugged outdoor watch, or iPhone compatibility.
Why the Pixel Watch 3 still works so well
The Pixel Watch 3 is not a cut-down budget watch. Launched in 2024, it introduced Google’s two-size strategy, a larger 45mm option, a substantially improved display, and a mature Fitbit-focused health platform. Google lists it as compatible with most Android phones running Android 10 or newer; it requires a Google Account and the Pixel Watch app and is not intended for Android Go devices. Check compatibility at Google’s official specifications page.
It is unusually good at everyday smartwatch jobs
For daily use, the Pixel Watch 3 covers the basics without much friction. Notifications are easy to read and act on, while Google Maps, Calendar, alarms, music controls, Google Wallet, Google Assistant or Gemini availability, and smart-home interactions keep it useful even when you are not exercising. The LTE version can handle calls and connectivity away from your phone when paired with a compatible carrier plan.
That Pixel integration is the main reason to buy it. If you own a Pixel phone, the watch feels like an extension of the same account and software ecosystem rather than a separate platform. It is also a credible option for non-Pixel Android owners, although Samsung users should compare Samsung’s ecosystem-specific advantages before choosing Google’s watch.
Fitbit supplies the health and fitness layer
The Pixel Watch 3 tracks heart rate, sleep, exercise, recovery, and running-related information through Fitbit and Google’s software. It is a good match for someone who wants wellness information presented clearly, occasional workouts, sleep tracking, and basic run guidance—not a specialist training computer.
These measurements are wellness features, not medical diagnoses. Availability can vary by country, software version, account type, and subscription status. Core watch functions should also be separated from Fitbit Premium or Google Health Premium insights and content.
Two sizes make a real difference
The 41mm model is the better choice for smaller wrists and anyone who dislikes visual bulk. The 45mm model gives you a larger viewing area and is generally the more attractive deal if its discount is similar, particularly because its larger battery is better suited to heavier use.
Do not assume every listing has the same band, color, LTE status, warranty, or regional SKU. Replacement bands are also a cost to factor into a bargain purchase, and you should verify compatibility before ordering accessories.
Water-resistant, not waterproof
The Pixel Watch 3 can be suitable for swimming within Google’s stated limits, but call it water-resistant, not waterproof. Seals can deteriorate with age, impacts, chemicals, heat, and repairs. Do not treat it as a diving or high-pressure-water watch unless Google’s current guidance for the exact model explicitly supports that use.
What the Pixel Watch 4 gives you for the extra money
The Pixel Watch 4 is not merely a cosmetic refresh. Google gave it hardware changes that affect ownership every day.

Longer battery life
Google rates the Pixel Watch 4 for up to 30 hours on the 41mm model and up to 40 hours on the 45mm model with the always-on display enabled. Real-world results vary with GPS, LTE, screen brightness, workouts, notifications, and other settings, but the larger margin is valuable for overnight tracking and heavy users.
Recommended Free Tools
The Pixel Watch 3 is much easier to recommend to people who already charge nightly. If you dislike charging, skip the older model’s discount and pay for the newer watch—or consider a different brand entirely.
Faster charging reduces daily friction
The Watch 4 charges substantially faster, with Google and review coverage reporting roughly 50% battery in about 15 minutes under suitable conditions. That matters when you wake up to a low battery, need to record a workout, or forgot to charge before bed. A faster charger cannot eliminate charging, but it makes the routine less disruptive.
A brighter, more outdoor-friendly display
The Watch 3’s AMOLED display is already good, with Google’s launch material rating it up to 2,000 nits. The Watch 4’s domed display is brighter—listed at up to 3,000 nits in current coverage—and its slimmer-looking bezels improve outdoor legibility.
This is a meaningful upgrade for runners and people who spend time in direct sunlight. It is less important if you mainly use the watch indoors or are comfortable raising your wrist and adjusting brightness.
Repairability is a major long-term difference
Google redesigned the Pixel Watch 4 so its display and battery can be serviced, subject to local service availability. The Pixel Watch 3 was not built around the same repairable construction. That does not change the first day of ownership, but it can change the economics of keeping a watch for several years.
A $100 saving is less compelling if a cracked screen or worn battery eventually means replacing the entire watch. Before buying either model as a long-term device, check Google’s current repair options and battery-service availability in your country.
Newer processor, connectivity, and sensors
The Watch 4 uses a newer Qualcomm platform and coprocessor architecture, Bluetooth 6.0 rather than the Watch 3’s Bluetooth 5.3, and newer sensors and health features, including skin-temperature-related functionality and additional Health Guardian tools. Availability is subject to region, software, account tier, and phone compatibility.
These changes give the Watch 4 a software head start, but they do not make the Watch 3 unusable. Notifications, payments, maps, sleep tracking, and basic exercise recording do not suddenly stop working because a newer model exists.

How cheap does the Pixel Watch 3 need to be?
At the time of checking, a Walmart listing showed a 45mm LTE Pixel Watch 3 at $246.99, marked down from $259.99 on that listing. Google launched the 45mm version at $399.99 for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and $499.99 for LTE, so the observed Walmart price was $253 below the original LTE launch price.
That does not establish the lowest price ever. The listing’s retailer, seller, condition, inventory status, return policy, and exact configuration must be checked at purchase. Marketplace pages can combine new, refurbished, open-box, and third-party stock. A deal seen on one date may disappear shortly afterward.
| Price situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Pixel Watch 3 is $150 or more below Watch 4 | Buy the Watch 3 for ordinary use if the seller and warranty are dependable. |
| Pixel Watch 3 is $100–$150 below Watch 4 | Choose based on charging habits, fitness needs, and expected ownership length. |
| Price gap is under $100 | Buy the Watch 4; its battery, charging, display, and repairability are worth the premium. |
| Watch 3 is refurbished or open-box | Demand a clear warranty, return window, battery condition disclosure, and identifiable seller. |
Choose by buyer type
- Pixel-phone owner: The Watch 3 is a strong value when discounted. Buy the Watch 4 if you want the longest practical ownership and the price gap is small.
- Samsung-phone owner: Compare Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 first, especially if you already use Samsung Health and Galaxy devices.
- Runner or outdoor user: Prefer the Watch 4 for its battery, brighter display, and newer hardware. Serious runners, cyclists, and hikers should also consider Garmin.
- Sleep tracker: The Watch 3 works well if you can charge before bed or immediately afterward. The Watch 4’s larger battery and faster charging are more convenient.
- Small-wrist buyer: Choose 41mm unless the 45mm fit is comfortable and its price is significantly better.
- LTE buyer: Confirm carrier support, number-sync requirements, activation fees, monthly charges, and return restrictions. Do not choose LTE merely because the sticker price is lower.
- Long-term owner: Favor the Watch 4 because repairability and newer hardware matter more over several years.
- Budget buyer: The Watch 3 is compelling when new or properly refurbished with a reliable return policy.
Hidden costs and checks before ordering
LTE is not a one-time upgrade
LTE allows more phone-independent use, but it requires a compatible carrier and usually an additional monthly service fee. Confirm whether the watch is unlocked, whether it uses number sharing, and what activation and cancellation rules apply. Google explains LTE setup and carrier requirements on its Pixel Watch product page.

Premium trials are promotional, not permanent ownership value
Google Store pages have displayed different offers, including three months of Google Health Premium on one page and six months of Fitbit Premium on another indexed Pixel Watch 3 SKU page. Eligibility and duration can vary by product, market, purchase date, and prior subscription history.
Check the exact offer at checkout, note the renewal price, and cancel before the trial ends if you do not want a paid subscription. Do not value a trial as though it were a permanent feature.

When another watch makes more sense
Samsung Galaxy Watch 8
The Galaxy Watch 8 is the most natural alternative for Samsung-phone owners and people who prefer Samsung’s health and device ecosystem. Samsung’s March 2026 US MSRP sheet lists standard 40mm and 44mm models from $349.99 to $429.99 depending on Bluetooth or LTE; actual retail prices may be lower. Verify current phone compatibility because some Samsung health features may be more restricted outside Samsung phones.

Garmin is the better fit for runners, cyclists, hikers, and buyers who prioritize long battery life and deeper training tools. It is less suitable if you specifically want Wear OS apps, Google Wallet, LTE smartwatch functions, or Fitbit’s sleep and recovery presentation.
Fitbit Charge 6
The Fitbit Charge 6 is a lighter, cheaper fitness-first choice. It is not a substitute for the Pixel Watch 3 if you need LTE, standalone calls, a large app catalog, or a full Wear OS experience.
Bottom line
The Pixel Watch 3 is still a smart everyday Android smartwatch—but only at the right price. If you find a new or well-supported refurbished model at least $100–$150 below the Pixel Watch 4, its Google services, Fitbit tracking, compact design, and capable notifications make it an excellent value.
If the gap narrows, pay for the Pixel Watch 4. Its longer battery life, faster charging, brighter display, newer sensors and connectivity, and repairable design are the upgrades most likely to matter over years of ownership. And if your priority is multi-day battery life or serious outdoor training, neither Pixel Watch is the obvious answer.
