The Timex Deepwater Meridian 200 is a family of watches, not one fixed configuration. Timex’s U.S. lineup includes two quartz versions—a 38mm HNBR-strap model and a 44mm synthetic-rubber-strap model—and a 44mm automatic with an HNBR strap. All three are listed by Timex as 200m water resistant, but the choice between them comes down chiefly to case size, strap construction and movement. This is a specification-based overview, not a personal wear or water test.
Which Deepwater Meridian 200 are you looking at?
Check the reference number before comparing prices or buying: the family includes both quartz and automatic watches, and the two 44mm models do not use the same strap.

Prices are Timex U.S. listings viewed on 2026-10-07, not a survey of sale prices or a guarantee of current availability. See Timex’s pages for the 38mm TW2Y40300, 44mm quartz TW2W81600 and 44mm automatic TW2Y39900 for the corresponding configurations.
What do the size and strap differences mean?
38mm quartz: the smaller listed case
The TW2Y40300 is the family’s smaller documented option here, with a 38mm case and a two-piece quick-release HNBR strap. Case diameter alone does not establish how a watch will sit on a particular wrist; trying it on is the best way to judge fit.
#1 Best Overall
- Stainless-steel Case - The recycled stainless-steel case is equipped with a unidirectional ratcheting top ring and is fortified with a screw-down crown, screw-on case back, and a sturdy crown protector.
- Sapphire Crystal - Protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating for optimal clarity, enhanced by a magnifier for the date window at 3 o'clock.
- Super-Luminova - Super-Luminova in-fill on the hands and hour markers provide the luminosity you rely on as you venture below.
- Rubber Strap - The rubber strap is flexible for comfort in and out of the water and features a two-piece design for durability.
- Quick-release Spring Bars - No tools are required to swap out the rubber strap for an attachment in another color, material, or style.
44mm quartz: molded synthetic rubber
The TW2W81600 pairs the larger 44mm case with a molded synthetic-rubber strap. It is a quartz watch like the 38mm model, but its strap construction differs from the HNBR straps on the other two references.
44mm automatic: HNBR strap
The TW2Y39900 is also 44mm, but adds an automatic movement and uses a two-piece quick-release HNBR strap. A 2025 aBlogtoWatch video review described this automatic model as about 44mm wide, 14mm thick and roughly 51mm lug-to-lug; those are reviewer-reported measurements, not figures on the current Timex listing. The video description reported a $399 retail price at the time, while Timex’s U.S. page displayed $409 when accessed on 2026-10-07. aBlogtoWatch’s 2025 video review also identified a Miyota 8215 movement and ceramic bezel insert; these are reviewer-reported details.
Rank #2
- 44mm silver-tone case
- 8 inch silver-tone bracelet
- White dial
- Sapphire lens
- Water resistant up to 200 meters
Timex does not confirm that straps are interchangeable among these references. Quick-release hardware on two models does not by itself establish compatibility with another reference or with a third-party strap.
Quartz or automatic: which movement suits you?
The two quartz references use battery-powered analog movements, according to Timex. The automatic TW2Y39900 instead runs through wrist motion; Timex describes it as a 21-jewel movement with a maximum 40-hour energy reserve. Timex says to wind it from the crown after it has been without motion for more than 40 hours. That makes quartz the simpler fit if you want a battery-powered watch, while the automatic is the option for someone who prefers a mechanical movement and is comfortable winding it when needed. The cited information does not quantify comparative accuracy or service costs.
Rank #3
- 44mm silver-tone case
- 8 inch black strap
- Blue dial
- Sapphire lens
- Water resistant up to 200 meters
Is the 200m rating suitable for swimming or scuba?
Timex lists all three cited references as water resistant to 200m and describes them with a screw-down crown, screw-on case back and unidirectional ratcheting top ring. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent pressure test. For the 44mm quartz TW2W81600, Timex explicitly lists swimming, snorkelling, surfing and recreational scuba-diving as suitable activities, and says not to press buttons underwater. Timex’s general water-resistance chart also places 200m in its recreational scuba-diving category. These claims do not establish a certification or support extending the guidance to professional or technical diving. See Timex’s TW2W81600 page and water-resistance guidance.
What else does Timex specify?
Timex lists sapphire crystal and luminous hands and markers across the cited models. On the automatic page, it additionally describes a magnified date window and anti-reflective coating. Those feature listings do not establish scratch resistance in use, underwater legibility or how long the lume remains visible; those outcomes have not been independently tested here.
How to choose among the three references
- Choose TW2Y40300 if you want the smaller 38mm case and quartz movement, with a quick-release HNBR strap.
- Choose TW2W81600 if you want a 44mm quartz version with a molded synthetic-rubber strap and Timex’s explicit activity guidance for swimming through recreational scuba-diving.
- Choose TW2Y39900 if you want a 44mm automatic with a stated 21-jewel movement and up to 40-hour reserve, plus a quick-release HNBR strap.
Before ordering, confirm the reference number, movement and strap shown on the specific listing. The official pages cited here do not provide confirmed cross-reference strap compatibility.
