Its panda-style dial and 1970s Navigator inspiration give it strong period character; its substantial case is the key fit consideration. Fratello reported a launch-era price of €1,990, but that is not a current resale quote. Later Heritage 1973 references differ in details and should not be treated as the same watch.
What the original Tissot Heritage 1973 is
The title refers to the silver-dial T124.427.16.031.00, not every watch later sold under the Heritage 1973 name. Fratello identified the .00 as a 2019 limited edition of 1,973 pieces. The design reinterprets Tissot’s 1973 Navigator racing chronograph, drawing on the brand’s motorsport associations and its partnership with Kessel Classics. That heritage explains the styling; it does not imply any special racing performance.
Fratello’s review describes a panda-style dial with three registers, a tachymeter scale and a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. A perforated black leather strap reinforces the racing look, while a display back shows the movement. The overall effect is deliberately retro rather than a small, discreet dress chronograph. Fratello’s 2019 review details the original .00.

How large does it wear?
The stated 43 mm diameter and 15.2 mm thickness make the original a large, thick choice by vintage-inspired chronograph standards. Fratello’s reviewer said the watch measured closer to 44 mm across in their assessment and found it too large for their taste. Treat that as one reviewer’s experience, not a universal fit verdict.
There is a more comfortable fit observation for a different version: Monochrome reported that the later black-dial .051.00 sat snugly on a pictured 16.5 cm wrist, crediting its short lugs, sloping bezel and curved middle case. That observation does not establish how the original .00 will fit your wrist. If case size is a concern, compare the actual watch on wrist rather than relying on the 43 mm diameter alone.

Movement and operation
The original uses an automatic ETA/Valjoux 7753 chronograph. Its layout places the 30-minute totalizer at 3 o’clock, the 12-hour counter at 6 and running seconds at 9, with central chronograph seconds and a date window between 4 and 5. This gives the dial the three-register racing-chronograph appearance while retaining a calendar display.
Reserve specifications depend on the reference and source: Fratello gives about 46 hours for the original .00. Tissot lists 65 hours for the related .01, and Monochrome gives 60 hours for the later black .051. Those numbers should not be merged into one specification for the model family.

Price: launch figure versus current listings
Fratello reported €1,990 for the original .00 in its August 2019 review. This is launch-era pricing, not evidence of today’s value or a live offer. A current used or collector price for the .00 is not established by the cited sources, so a buyer should check actual listings rather than infer a market value from the launch figure.
Tissot’s current US product page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists $2,575 for reference T124.427.16.031.01. That is a related silver-dial model, not the original .00. Monochrome reported €2,030 for the later black .051.00 in December 2020; that historical price is also for a different reference and date. Tissot’s US page for the .01 lists its current specifications and price.

When comparing offers for an original .00, verify the complete reference, condition, included box and papers, seller, currency and country, and whether the figure is a historical retail price or a current resale offer. The edition number alone does not establish appreciation or investment value.

The later .051 has a reverse-panda dial, orange chronograph hands and a perforated 22 mm leather strap; Monochrome also describes a 500 km/h tachymeter scale. Those are details of the black-dial reference, not specifications to transfer to the original .00. Monochrome’s 2020 review covers the .051.00.

- The see-through caseback is a window to the heartbeat of precision watchmaking: equipped with the Powermatic 80 featuring a Nivachron balance spring, the T-Race Automatic redefines what's possible on the road.
Who should consider it?
- It may suit you if: you want a visibly 1970s-inspired automatic chronograph, value the panda-style original dial and limited-edition identity, and are comfortable with a substantial case.
- Look closely before buying if: you prefer compact watches, need a current price for the .00, or are comparing a listing that identifies the watch only as “Heritage 1973.” Confirm the reference before relying on specs, reserve or edition claims.
- For a strap change: the original’s listed lug width is 22 mm. Tissot also lists 22 mm for the related .01, but check strap, clasp and fit compatibility for the exact watch before ordering.
Monochrome reports that a 1958 message attributed to Swiss driver Harry Zweifel said, “My Tissot is by my side at every race.” The article presents that wording as reported history, not as an independently established archival source.
