The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 is the automatic, mechanical version of the PRX 40 205—not the quartz model with a different label. For US reference T137.407.11.051.00, Tissot lists a 40mm stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal, date display, 100m water resistance and up to 80 hours of power reserve. Its US product page showed $850 when accessed in 2026; that is a listing price for this specific configuration, not a permanent or universal price.
What the PRX 40 205 Powermatic 80 is
“PRX 40 205” is the family naming. The Powermatic 80 is its self-winding mechanical version, following the quartz PRX 40 205. Swatch Group described the automatic model as the mechanical counterpart after the quartz model’s 2020 release. Both share the PRX family identity, but their movements are different; confirm that a listing says Powermatic 80 if you want the automatic watch. Swatch Group’s 2021 announcement identifies the 40mm case, Nivachron balance spring and up-to-80-hour reserve.

These are manufacturer-listed figures, not independent test results. In particular, the 80-hour reserve is Tissot’s stated maximum, and its product copy says the watch can continue telling time if unworn for three days. Actual reserve depends on the watch’s state of wind and use. See Tissot’s US product page for the exact reference and current listing details.

Price: what the listed $850 does and does not mean
Tissot’s US page displayed $850 for T137.407.11.051.00 when accessed in 2026. The figure is specific to the US listing for the black-dial steel-bracelet model. It is not evidence of a universal MSRP, a current street price, or the price of other dial and strap configurations. Check the exact reference, seller, availability and price before buying.
How to judge fit and everyday suitability
Case size and proportions
The listed 40mm width, 39.5mm length and 10.93mm thickness give more useful context than diameter alone. Compare those measurements with a watch you already find comfortable, if possible. The figures do not establish how the watch will fit every wrist, and there is no independent fit or comfort test here.

- Case Size: 40.00 mm, Band Width: 12, Case Thickness: 10.93 mm
- Automatic movement, 316L stainless steel case, Index dial type, Date
- Stainless steel strap/bracelet, interchangeable quick release bracelet, butterfly clasp with push-buttons closure
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft): suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
- 2 Year International Warranty
Automatic movement and reserve
The Powermatic 80 is self-winding rather than battery-powered. Its stated reserve of up to 80 hours can be useful if you rotate watches: after a full wind, Tissot says it can keep running for three days without being worn. That is a maximum manufacturer specification, not a guarantee that every watch will run for precisely that long in every condition.
Water resistance
Tissot rates this reference to 10 bar (100m/330ft). Treat that as the manufacturer’s water-resistance specification, not as unrestricted permission for every kind of water activity or diving. Follow Tissot’s care and water-resistance guidance for the activity you have in mind.

- Case Size: 35.00 mm, Band Width: 11, Case Thickness: 10.93 mm

Bracelet and configuration
The listed steel bracelet has a quick-release system. That establishes that the supplied bracelet is interchangeable; it does not establish that any third-party strap will fit. Check compatibility against the precise reference before purchasing an alternative.
Is it a good first watch?
It may suit a first-time buyer who specifically wants an automatic watch, appreciates the PRX design and is comfortable with the price of the exact configuration. Its straightforward date display, steel case and published 100m water-resistance rating are practical specifications, while the automatic movement brings a reserve to manage rather than a battery to replace. Consider the quartz PRX 40 205 instead if you want quartz: the shared family name does not mean the two models use the same movement. No independent evidence here establishes long-term reliability, accuracy, service intervals or repair costs, so those should not be inferred from the specification sheet.

What the specifications cannot tell you
The listed dimensions and materials cannot substitute for trying the watch on if wrist fit matters to you. Tissot’s product page supplies manufacturer specifications and a dynamic price, not independent measurements of accuracy, finishing or comfort. A 2024 video review of the blue-dial 40mm model provides one reviewer’s subjective impressions; it is not a test of this black-dial reference, and the video description discloses affiliate links. There is not enough established information here to state a service schedule, repair cost, or long-term reliability verdict.
