The Tissot PRX makes its strongest case as a daily watch that combines a distinctive late-1970s integrated-bracelet design with modern essentials: sapphire crystal, 100 m water resistance and, in the Powermatic 80 version, an 80-hour reserve. The 40 mm automatic is the more compelling all-rounder if you enjoy mechanical watches; the 40 mm Quartz is thinner and simpler to live with.
What the PRX is
PRX is Tissot’s modern interpretation of a case-and-bracelet design the brand dates to 1978. Its defining feature is the integrated bracelet, where the links flow directly from the angular case rather than attaching through conventional lugs. Tissot describes the result as a “slim, smooth watch with an authentic ‘70s feel.”

| Lug width | 12 mm |
| Weight | 138 g |

| Water resistance | 10 bar (100 m/330 ft) |

The 80-hour reserve is unusually useful in everyday ownership. Tissot says the watch can continue running for three days when it is not worn. The Nivachron hairspring is intended to improve resistance to magnetic fields and temperature-related effects, but this specification alone does not establish a measured accuracy result.

Powermatic 80 versus Quartz
Choosing between the two 40 mm versions is less about which is universally better and more about how you want to own a watch.

Choose the Powermatic 80 if
- You value the visible and mechanical character of an automatic movement.
- An 80-hour reserve matters because you may leave the watch off for a weekend.
- You prefer the listed lower price of the representative automatic reference at the recorded crawl time.
- You accept that mechanical watches eventually require specialist servicing and that real-world accuracy depends on the individual watch.
Choose the Quartz if
- You want the thinner 10.40 mm case.
- You prefer battery operation and straightforward, low-intervention ownership.
- You do not need an exhibition caseback or the appeal of a mechanical caliber.
- Your preferred dial or finish is offered only in the quartz range.
The recorded prices should not be treated as permanent positioning: they are the US list prices captured at crawl time, and regional pricing, promotions and later revisions can change the comparison.

Size and fit: 35 mm or 40 mm?
The 40 mm case measures 40.00 mm across and 39.50 mm from top to bottom, a compact length for its diameter. Because the bracelet is integrated, the first links extend the visual footprint differently from a conventional strap watch; wrist shape therefore matters as much as the diameter printed on the specification sheet.
40 mm
Choose 40 mm when you want the PRX’s full, assertive sports-watch presence or have a medium-to-large wrist. Its 10.93 mm automatic case remains relatively restrained for a mechanical watch, while the Quartz version reduces that to 10.40 mm.

- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft): suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
35 mm
Tissot’s pressroom reports current 35 mm PRX quartz models. A smaller case is the logical starting point for a narrow wrist or a more compact, vintage-leaning proportion, but exact dimensions, dial options and pricing vary by reference.
Try the actual integrated bracelet before deciding whenever possible. The fixed case-and-bracelet geometry cannot be adjusted like a standard lugged watch simply by changing to a shorter strap.
Rank #4
- Case Size: 38.00 mm, Band Width: 25mm, Case Thickness: 10.98 mm
- Automatic movement, leather strap, Index dial type, Date
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 300 ft): suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
Materials, dial and everyday durability
Both compared references use 316L stainless steel, sapphire crystals and Super-LumiNova. The automatic reference adds an antireflective coating and a see-through caseback. Tissot lists quick-release bracelet hardware, so compatible PRX straps can be changed without treating the bracelet as permanently fixed; confirm compatibility for the exact case size and reference before ordering a replacement.
The 100 m (10 bar/330 ft) rating is suitable for normal swimming and general water exposure when the crown and case are properly secured, but it does not make the PRX a dive watch. Tissot says its cases are tested for impacts, pressure, and penetration by liquids, gas and dust; those tests support the stated rating, not a specialized diving certification.

What this review can—and cannot—establish
The official specifications establish the dimensions, materials, movement type, reserve claim, water-resistance rating and warranty. They do not establish an independent accuracy measurement, bracelet comfort, clasp quality, long-term reliability or a recommended service interval. Those points require a clearly documented hands-on test of a particular watch over time.
That distinction matters with the Powermatic 80: a long reserve and Nivachron hairspring are meaningful design features, but neither guarantees that every example will keep identical time or remain maintenance-free.
Is the Tissot PRX worth it?
For a buyer who wants an immediately recognizable integrated-bracelet design without moving into luxury-brand pricing, the PRX has a persuasive specification package. The automatic 40 mm model combines sapphire, 100 m water resistance, a display back and an 80-hour reserve in a 10.93 mm steel case. It is the stronger choice when mechanical ownership is part of the enjoyment.

Quick Recap
Buying checklist
- Decide whether you want automatic mechanics or battery-powered quartz before choosing a colorway.
- Measure your wrist and compare the 40 mm and available 35 mm proportions in person if possible.
- Check the exact reference: dial, crystal coating, caseback and bracelet details can vary across PRX versions.
- Confirm the current regional price, warranty coverage and authorized-dealer status at purchase.
- If buying an aftermarket strap, verify that it is made for the PRX case size and quick-release system.
- For a marketplace listing, verify the seller, stock, reference and price immediately before ordering; those details are volatile.
