It uses the Powermatic 80 Nivachron movement, and Tissot specifies water resistance of 30 bar (300 m). The original release details below are Japan-specific; current price, stock and strap compatibility depend on the market and reference.
How the 2023 Tissot Sideral relates to the original
Tissot traces the Sideral family to 1969 and says the Sideral S debuted in 1971. The original used fiberglass; the modern watch replaces it with forged carbon, a contemporary material choice Tissot presents as carrying forward the original’s lightweight, innovative character. This is a reinterpretation rather than a reproduction of the vintage watch.
Tissot’s product story describes the design as a forged-carbon case paired with a black PVD unidirectional bezel marked for diving and regatta timing, producing what the brand calls a “unique and eye-catching look.” Tissot’s Sideral product story also highlights its multicolor luminous dial and green-and-red countdown design.
What is distinctive about the Tissot Sideral watch?
Forged carbon and colorful styling
The forged-carbon case gives the watch its most obvious modern distinction from the fiberglass original. Tissot’s 2023 product description lists yellow, red and blue versions, with the bright color treatment extending the watch’s unconventional, retro-inspired look. The bezel is black PVD-coated and unidirectional.
#1 Best Overall
- Case Size: 40.00 mm, Band Width: 20 mm, Case Thickness: 8.25 mm
- Quartz movemenet, 316L stainless steel case, Index dial type, Date
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 300 ft): suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
Regatta countdown display
The dial includes a green-and-red regatta countdown design alongside multicolor luminous elements. The bezel carries both diver and regatta graduations, so the Sideral’s visual language mixes dive-watch cues with a timing function aimed at regatta starts.
Powermatic 80 Nivachron movement
Tissot identifies the movement as the Powermatic 80 Nivachron. The Japan-market launch release published in 2023 states a maximum power reserve of up to 80 hours. That reserve is a manufacturer-published specification in that release, not an independently measured result.

Colors, references and strap system
The Japan-market announcement identifies three launch references and colors. Reference codes below are those published for that market in 2023; check the code on the specific watch and confirm local naming before purchase.

Tissot documents a perforated rubber strap with a distinctive fastening system, and lists green, orange and black alternate strap colors in its product material. Do not assume that a strap described simply as fitting another Tissot model will fit the Sideral: verify compatibility with the Sideral’s fastening system and the exact reference before ordering.

Swatch Group Japan’s announcement, published June 15, 2023, said the watch would go on sale in Japan on July 21, 2023, at ¥144,100 including tax. That is a historical Japan-market launch price, not a current worldwide price or evidence that any color or reference is presently in stock.
Quick Recap
What to check before buying
- Market and current price: check Tissot or an authorized local retailer for today’s price and availability; the 2023 Japan launch figure does not establish either elsewhere or now.
- Exact reference and color: match the reference on the listing or watch to the version you intend to buy, particularly if buying pre-owned.
- Strap compatibility: confirm the strap is made for the Sideral’s fastening system and fits the precise reference.
- Condition and water resistance: for a used watch, have its condition and seals assessed rather than relying on the original published water-resistance rating.
