The brand calls it the first Freak with automatic winding, marking a departure from earlier versions that required winding by hand. Ulysse Nardin’s Freak history describes it as the first collection Freak with an automatic winding system, named Grinder.
The design’s defining idea is to make the movement itself part of the display. It has no conventional hands-and-dial arrangement; visible rotating elements indicate the time. The watch’s unusual appearance is therefore functional, not simply decorative.
How does the Freak Vision show the time?
The movement’s flying carousel rotates to indicate the minutes. The carousel completes one rotation for the minute indication, while other visible rotating elements provide the time display. The whole watch does not rotate, and there are no conventional hands sweeping over a fixed dial.

What is the Grinder winding system?
Grinder is the self-winding system used in the Freak Vision. Rather than relying on a conventional crown-operated winding arrangement, the watch uses the motion of the wearer to wind its movement automatically. Ulysse Nardin says the system was brought to a production watch for the first time with the 2018 Freak Vision; that is the brand’s account of its development and does not establish independently measured winding efficiency.

Is the Freak Vision discontinued?
Yes. Ulysse Nardin labels reference 2505-250 an earlier, discontinued model and says it is no longer available from the brand. That does not mean every example has disappeared: a watch may still be offered by a specialist pre-owned dealer or private seller. Current stock, condition, service history, regional availability, and resale prices depend on the individual listing and have not been verified here.

Before buying, ask the seller for clear photographs, condition details, service documentation, and confirmation that the watch winds and displays time as expected. The GPHG-recorded 95,000 CHF figure is not a benchmark for today’s secondary market; compare current, comparable listings instead.
