The UNIMATIC Modello Cinque U5S-BL is a 36 mm automatic dive-style watch with a matte black dial, 300 m water-resistance rating, and a 300-piece numbered edition. Its compact case and broad 22 mm lugs give it a different feel from a conventional small watch: reviewers found that the strap helps it retain wrist presence, while the olive NATO was a favored pairing. UNIMATIC’s product page showed the model sold out at €1,100 including taxes and duties on October 7, 2026, so that price is a listed price, not a current offer.
What is the UNIMATIC Modello Cinque U5S-BL?
The U5S-BL is a time-only automatic watch in UNIMATIC’s Modello Cinque collection. It is Made in Italy and individually numbered as one of 300. The defining dial detail is a set of hand-applied, three-dimensional UNILIGHT C1 markers on a matte black background. The design combines a compact 36 mm case with the robust construction and water-resistance specification associated with a tool watch.
How does the 36 mm case wear?
The case measures 36 mm across and 43.7 mm from lug to lug. Its 22 mm lug width is relatively broad for that diameter, giving the watch a strap-to-case proportion that can make it feel more substantial than the diameter alone suggests. The case is 11.6 mm thick without the crystal and 13.5 mm including it.
Fratello’s Jorg Weppelink describes the Modello Cinque as a smaller, more stylish counterpart to UNIMATIC’s more rugged tool-watch options. In his coverage, two reviewers responded positively to the U5S-BL. One initially wondered whether the 36 mm case would look too small on an 18.5 cm wrist, but said that concern was put to rest; he credited the 22 mm strap with adding wrist presence. That is one wearer’s impression, not a guarantee of fit for every wrist.

Hodinkee’s TanTan Wang preferred the olive NATO for comfort and proportion. He wrote: “For smaller wrists, it wears incredibly comfortably, but I think the continuous look of the NATO makes the smaller size of the Modello Cinque much more palatable on larger wrists.” The watch also comes with a black leather quick-release strap, offering a more conventional alternative.
Dial, markers, and nighttime legibility
The matte black dial is paired with applied UNILIGHT C1 markers and hands treated with Super-LumiNova C1. The applied markers add physical depth rather than appearing as flat printed indices. Wang reported that the lume performed well during his time with the watch, while noting that the hands looked cooler in color than the warmer-looking markers. These are his observations, not formal lume or color testing.

Movement and power reserve
UNIMATIC specifies a Sellita SW200-1b automatic movement with 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, hacking seconds, and manual winding. The stated accuracy is ±12 seconds per day. The manufacturer lists a minimum 38-hour power reserve and a typical 41-hour reserve. These are specifications, not results from an independent timing test.
Case construction and water resistance
The brushed case is made from 316L stainless steel. Its technical sheet specifies a fixed monoblock bezel, screw-down caseback, and screw-down 8 mm crown. A 2.2 mm double-domed sapphire crystal has an inner anti-reflective coating.

UNIMATIC rates the U5S-BL to 300 m / 30 atm and says each watch is individually tested for accuracy and water resistance. That is the manufacturer’s rating; it should not be read as an independent dive test. UNIMATIC advises ensuring the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water and never operating it underwater. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and have the crown and seals checked if the watch has been serviced or damaged.
Straps and included kit
The package includes an olive drab seatbelt NATO strap and a black leather two-piece strap with quick-release spring bars. Both use signed steel hardware. The watch is supplied in a UNIMATIC tough case with a warranty card and unique ID seal; the product page states a 24-month worldwide warranty.

With 22 mm lugs, any replacement strap should match that width. Check the attachment style, strap length, and construction before buying; a thick or stiff strap may change the way the compact case sits and feels. The included straps already cover a casual NATO look and a dressier leather option.

When checked on October 7, 2026, UNIMATIC’s product page listed the U5S-BL at €1,100 including taxes and duties and marked it sold out. Fratello reported the same €1,100 release price. Hodinkee reported $1,390 and said the 300-piece steel version sold out within two weeks of release in its article dated February 10, 2026. Those figures reflect different publication contexts and currencies, not a single current market price. Current authorized-retailer inventory and resale pricing have not been established.
