The Waltham Field & Marine Dual Time Grey pairs a military-inspired field-watch design with a 43 mm case, a locking bayonet-style crown and a practical 24-hour second-time-zone display. Its automatic Soprod movement adds a date and power-reserve indicator. The dimensions are substantial, so fit is a personal consideration; wrist impressions below come from Lex Stolk’s July 2022 Fratello review, not our own testing.
What the Dual Time Grey is
Watch Angels describes the Field & Marine as an official Waltham collaboration funded in February 2021. The company says its longer-term goal is to bring production back to the United States with support from the watch enthusiast community; that is an ambition, not a claim that this model is made in the US. The Dual Time Grey itself is listed as Swiss made.
The design draws on Waltham and Depollier’s historical bayonet-crown patents, including a patent granted on January 28, 1919. The modern watch is patent-inspired rather than an unchanged historic mechanism. Its matte grey dial, military-green strap and prominent crown give it a more utilitarian look than a conventional dress-oriented dual-time watch.

How the second time zone works
The 24-hour hand sits in the subdial at 6 o’clock. The Waltham manual says to advance it with the corrector near 4 o’clock; each press moves the hand forward by one hour. Set it to home time when travelling, for example, while the main hands show local time. Because the subdial is marked over 24 hours, it also indicates whether it is day or night in the second zone.
Stolk found the subdial small, though he valued the day/night distinction its 24-hour scale provides. That is a useful trade-off to assess in person if you expect to consult the second time zone frequently.

Bayonet crown: setting and locking
The crown has a push-and-turn bayonet-style locking action, described by the manufacturer as inspired by the historic Depollier-Waltham patents. The manual distinguishes a locked position from the positions used for winding, date setting and time setting. Follow the supplied instructions for moving between them; after winding or setting, push the crown back into Position 0 and lock it again. The manual specifically says this is necessary to ensure the case’s water resistance.
Do not use the quick date correction between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.; the manual warns that doing so may damage the movement.

Case size and wrist fit
At 43 mm across, 13.18 mm thick and 47.9 mm lug-to-lug, this is a large watch by many field-watch standards. Stolk’s July 8, 2022 Fratello review also calls it large, but says the flat case back, rounded polished bezel and restrained dial helped it wear more like a field watch than the dimensions might suggest. He found that the military-green synthetic strap held it firmly and comfortably on his wrist. Those are one reviewer’s impressions, not a fit guarantee for every wrist.
Stolk also praised the crown and the watch’s reinterpretation of its historical inspiration. On lume, he wrote: “The Waltham has a generous amount of strong X1-grade Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour indexes for easy readability in darker situations.” That is a reviewer’s observation, not a measured legibility test.

Dual Time Grey or the 41 mm Field & Marine Automatic?
The related 41 mm Field & Marine Automatic is a three-hand model without the dual-time function. The key distinction is not just two millimetres of diameter: it is whether you want a separate 24-hour time-zone display and prefer the Dual Time Grey’s dial and strap configuration.
| Consideration | Dual Time Grey | 41 mm Field & Marine Automatic |
|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | 43 mm | 41 mm |
| Second time zone | Yes; 24-hour subdial | No; three-hand configuration |
| Wrist presence | Larger stated diameter; assess the full 47.9 mm lug-to-lug length against your wrist | Smaller stated diameter; other dimensions are not stated here |

Water resistance, care and service
The seller states 30 ATM / 300 m / 1,000 ft water resistance, but that rating alone is not a guarantee of suitability for every activity or of the watch’s condition over time. The manual notes that repeated handling, ageing seals and large temperature changes can compromise water resistance. It recommends regular checks by an authorized retailer or approved service center.
