Watches of Switzerland Group (WOSG) offers a focused way to assess affluent luxury demand, rather than a broad bet on the entire luxury sector. Luxury watches generated 82% of its FY26 sales, while the group reported £1,828 million of revenue, £155 million of adjusted EBIT and £162 million of free cash flow. Its US retail revenue rose 19% on a reported basis, making American expansion the clearest part of the current growth story.
Calling this a “K-shaped economy” play is an analytical interpretation, not a category defined by the company. The thesis is that wealthy customers, scarce products and authorised distribution can remain comparatively resilient even when less affluent households cut discretionary spending. That resilience is not guaranteed: WOSG still depends on brand allocations, showroom execution, consumer confidence, currency and trade policy.

What Watches of Switzerland Group actually is

The business is primarily physical and showroom-led, supported by digital channels and client-service operations. The group reported 186 showrooms as of 3 September 2026. That footprint matters because luxury watches are products where brand presentation, authentication, servicing, relationship selling and access to limited supply can influence the purchase as much as online convenience.

The latest operating evidence
The company’s FY26 disclosures show a retailer growing faster in the US than in its established UK market. The figures below are reported by WOSG for FY26; “constant currency” removes exchange-rate effects and is not the amount recorded in pounds.
| Measure | FY26 result | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Group revenue | £1,828 million | Reported FY26 revenue |
| Adjusted EBIT | £155 million | FY26 adjusted operating-profit measure |
| Free cash flow | £162 million | FY26 reported free cash flow |
| Luxury watches | £1,500 million | Up 10% reported and 13% at constant currency |
| US retail revenue | £811 million | Up 19% reported and 25% at constant currency |
| Group revenue growth | 11% reported; 13% constant currency | FY26 trading update |
| Luxury watches as a share of sales | 82% | FY26 company profile |
The mix is the central investment fact. Jewellery can diversify the offer, but the economics and risks remain dominated by luxury watches. The £1.5 billion luxury-watch figure is consistent with that 82% mix, while the stronger US growth rate shows where incremental scale is currently being added.
Why the K-shaped interpretation can make sense
Affluent demand is the relevant economic exposure
A K-shaped economy describes diverging outcomes: higher-income consumers continue to spend or recover sooner while financially stretched households reduce discretionary purchases. WOSG sells high-ticket watches and jewellery, so its addressable customer is concentrated toward the upper end of that split. The company is therefore less exposed to mass-market volume than a general retailer, but more exposed to confidence among affluent buyers.
Scarcity and controlled distribution can support pricing
Prestigious watch brands restrict supply and manage authorised distribution. A retailer with trusted showrooms, trained staff and established brand relationships can benefit when customers prefer an authorised purchase, want access to scarce references or require after-sales service. This is a structural argument, not evidence that every brand or model will hold its price.
The US market offers a consolidation runway
WOSG says about 70% of US luxury-watch distribution is handled by retailers operating one, two or three stores. About 30% is concentrated among multi-door operators, including WOSG, Bucherer and The 1916 Company. That fragmentation creates a plausible route to share gains through new showrooms, acquisitions or stronger execution, although the company still has to earn brand support and acceptable returns on each location.
The same competitive-advantage material cites Swiss-watch export growth to the US of 4.4% compound annual growth from 2000 to 2025 and 11.6% from 2019 to 2025. Those are historical export-growth rates, not a forecast for WOSG revenue.

How the business model differs from a broad luxury investment
| Axis | WOSG exposure | What an investor must evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| Category | 82% of FY26 sales from luxury watches; jewellery is complementary | Whether watch demand remains stronger or weaker than other luxury categories |
| Distribution | Authorised, showroom-led retail supported by brand partnerships | Allocation quality, service standards and store productivity |
| Geography | UK base with rapidly growing US retail revenue | US expansion returns, foreign-exchange movements and local execution |
| Inventory mix | New watches plus a growing pre-owned category | Stock turns, authentication, sourcing and resale margins |
| Customer | Concentrated toward affluent discretionary spenders | Wealth effects, confidence and the risk of a luxury-demand reversal |
| Operating model | Physical showrooms and client relationships rather than pure e-commerce | Rent, staffing, capital deployment and the economics of each location |
This concentration can produce a cleaner read-through from affluent consumption than a diversified luxury conglomerate, but it also removes some category and geographic diversification. A weak watch cycle would matter disproportionately to WOSG.

WOSG describes pre-owned watches as a rapidly growing, second-largest category. Growth is being driven particularly by Rolex Certified Pre-Owned and by continued expansion in other pre-owned brands.
Pre-owned adds a different customer journey to the model: sourcing, authentication, valuation, trade-ins, servicing and repeat visits can create engagement beyond a single new-watch allocation. It also gives the group a circular-economy angle. However, the supplied disclosures do not state pre-owned revenue, margin or its share of group sales, so its financial contribution cannot be quantified here.
How exposed is WOSG to Rolex?
Rolex is strategically important because Rolex Certified Pre-Owned is identified as a major pre-owned growth driver. Rolex also represents the kind of scarce, high-demand product that makes authorised distribution and showroom relationships valuable.
There is no disclosed Rolex percentage in the FY26 figures provided. It would therefore be misleading to present WOSG as a quantified single-brand proxy. The group carries a broader portfolio of watch brands and jewellery businesses, but brand allocations remain a material dependency: losing access to desirable references, receiving less supply or seeing demand shift between brands would affect sales productivity.
The principal risks to the thesis
Affluent-consumer reversals
High-income customers are more resilient than mass-market shoppers in some downturns, not immune to them. Equity-market declines, housing weakness, higher interest rates or geopolitical shocks can defer large purchases and increase promotional pressure.
Rank #3
Brand allocation and partnership risk
WOSG does not manufacture the watches it sells. Its sales opportunity depends on access to leading brands, the terms of authorised distribution and the ability to convert scarce inventory into profitable client relationships.
US expansion and execution
A fragmented market creates opportunity, but new showrooms bring rent, labour, inventory and ramp-up costs. Poor site selection, integration problems or slower-than-expected productivity could dilute returns even if US revenue continues to grow.
Currency and tariffs
WOSG reports substantial US revenue in pounds, so exchange rates can change reported growth and profit translation. Tariff changes or other trade measures could affect landed costs, pricing, inventory flows or customer demand across markets.
Category concentration
With luxury watches at 82% of FY26 sales, WOSG is not insulated from a prolonged watch downturn by a large collection of unrelated businesses. Jewellery provides a complementary offer, but not a full substitute for watch demand.
What to monitor in future results
- US retail growth on both reported and constant-currency bases.
- Luxury-watch growth relative to total group growth.
- Showroom openings, productivity and cash returns from expansion.
- Evidence that pre-owned growth is translating into profitable revenue, not just customer traffic.
- Changes in brand partnerships, allocations and the breadth of the authorised portfolio.
- Free cash flow after expansion spending, alongside adjusted EBIT.
- Foreign-exchange and tariff effects on reported performance and gross margin.
Bottom line
WOSG is a concentrated listed-retail expression of affluent luxury demand. Its FY26 results show meaningful scale, strong US momentum and a business dominated by luxury watches, while the fragmented US distribution landscape and developing pre-owned operation provide identifiable growth avenues. The trade-off is equally clear: returns depend on scarce-brand access, showroom execution and wealthy customers continuing to spend. The K-shaped framing is useful as an investment hypothesis, but it should not be mistaken for a guarantee of resilience or a substitute for checking valuation, cash deployment and allocation risk.
