Citizen Caliber 4197 is an automatic mechanical movement identified by Citizen in two documented open-heart watches: the NP1020-82A and NP1020-15A. To identify a 4197 in your own watch, check the caseback number and use Citizen’s official manual lookup; the first four characters of the case number identify the movement number.
What is Citizen Caliber 4197?
Caliber 4197 is the movement number Citizen lists for the NP1020-82A and NP1020-15A. Citizen describes both as automatic mechanical watches with an open-heart dial on the front and an exhibition caseback. The cited product listings establish those model associations, but do not establish that these are the only watches using the caliber.

How do I identify my Citizen caliber number?
- Check the caseback. Citizen’s global manual page says the case number is stamped on the watch caseback.
- Read the first four characters. Citizen says those characters identify the movement number. If they read 4197, that identifies the caliber as 4197.
- Look up the full case or model number. Use Citizen’s global manual index or search by model number through Citizen support. The global index groups manuals by caliber family, including 4100–4199.
If the caseback marking is difficult to read, use the complete model number from your watch documents or contact Citizen support rather than guessing from the dial design.

What the caliber number does—and does not—tell you
The number is useful for finding the correct family of instructions. By itself, it does not prove that a replacement movement, stem, dial, hands, case, bracelet, crystal or other service part will fit. The cited product pages do not provide movement dimensions, parts lists or cross-caliber compatibility data. Confirm fit for the exact watch with Citizen or a qualified watch technician before ordering parts.
