The new Casio G-SHOCK MR-G MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire is an unusually costly G-SHOCK because it combines a sapphire-heavy design with an impact-conscious, screwless case structure and a worldwide limit of just 20 watches. Casio announced the model on October 1, 2026, but its reviewed official announcement does not confirm a final price. T3 reported a UK price of £67,000; that figure remains a media report, not confirmed Casio pricing.
What is the new G-SHOCK, and why is it exceptional?
The watch is the MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire, a new member of MR-G, which Casio describes as G-SHOCK’s flagship collection. Casio says it is the first G-SHOCK to achieve a shock-resistant structure using components made with blue sapphire crystal. The bezel is rendered entirely in blue sapphire, making the material both a visual centerpiece and an engineering challenge. Casio’s October 1, 2026 announcement describes the watch and its construction.
Its “most expensive” reputation needs a price qualification: Casio’s announcement and international product page do not state a final price. T3 reported £67,000 for the UK on October 1, 2026, but that is not an official Casio-confirmed price. Until Casio publishes regional pricing, it is more accurate to call the MRG-D5000 a reported £67,000 watch than to present that amount as settled.
How does the sapphire construction work?
Sapphire is hard and scratch-resistant, but it can crack under impact. Casio says it developed a Multi-Guard Structure to address that vulnerability: multiple separate case and bezel components are assembled without screws that could cause the sapphire to crack. Engineers analyzed the impact forces transmitted to the sapphire as part of the design. The point is not simply to add a decorative gemstone to a conventional G-SHOCK; the structure is intended to let sapphire components coexist with the shock protection expected of the line.

Casio’s claims describe its design and engineering intent; they are not independent test results. The company calls this the first G-SHOCK to achieve a shock-resistant structure using blue-sapphire components. The official release also identifies the Multi-Guard Structure and the blue-sapphire bezel.
What features and specifications does Casio list?
The international product page labels the MRG-D5000 “NEW 12/2026.” These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independently verified test measurements. Casio’s MRG-D5000 product page lists:

How scarce is it, and can you register to buy one?
Casio says the MRG-D5000 is limited to 20 pieces worldwide. That extreme scarcity is a major part of its positioning alongside the unusual material and construction, though it does not by itself establish a final price or resale value.
The G-SHOCK Blue Rose page describes registration as an expression of interest, not a guarantee of selection or purchase. It also says final specifications, price, availability and sales terms are subject to confirmation. Registration should therefore not be treated as a reservation or a promise of access.

The MRG-B5000SA and GMW-B5000SB use sapphire as accents, while the MRG-D5000 makes sapphire central to its bezel and structural approach. The MRG-D5000 is also an MR-G, rather than a full-metal model such as the GMW-B5000SB. Casio’s release supports those design distinctions, but not a definitive price ranking among the three.

Is £67,000 the highest price in G-SHOCK history?
That cannot be confirmed from Casio’s reviewed current pricing information. There is an important historical comparison: Casio’s Blue Rose page says the 2019 G-D5000 Dream Project #1 was a solid 18-karat gold watch, sold for $70,000 in May 2019, with 35 pieces made globally. That is the predecessor’s historical US-dollar sale price, not the MRG-D5000’s price, and the currencies, dates and market contexts differ. It should not be used to make a direct, unqualified ranking against T3’s reported UK figure. Casio’s Blue Rose page provides the historical detail.
