The watch fair is changing, not disappearing. Watches and Wonders Geneva combines a trade-focused salon with public days and a city-wide program—an approach that makes the fair more than a row of exhibition stands, without proving that one event has replaced every older model.
What replaced the old watch-fair model?
There is no evidence here of a single successor that has taken the place of every traditional watch fair. The clearer change is in how a major event is organized: Watches and Wonders Geneva links its central industry salon to public access and activities around the city. The fair is still a concentrated exhibition; the wider experience extends beyond the exhibition venue.

Geneva Watch Days is another contemporary event, but the available official material does not establish enough detail to compare its dates, scale, or access rules with Watches and Wonders. A numerical head-to-head with either it or Baselworld would therefore be misleading.
How did Watches and Wonders Geneva change the format?
Trade days followed by public days
The 2026 edition ran from 14 to 20 April, with four professional days followed by three public days: Saturday 18, Sunday 19, and Monday 20 April. That split gives industry visitors dedicated time while opening the final three days to the general public.

From the salon into the city
The official program connected the salon with Geneva city-centre exhibitions, talks, activities, immersive experiences, watch boutiques, and cultural partners. It also included free concerts through a Montreux Jazz Club collaboration, children’s activities, and a watchmaking innovation LAB. The result is a fair with both a central exhibition and a dispersed public program, rather than a venue-only visit.
A large event, with figures that need dates
In a 9 April 2026 release ahead of the event, the Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation reported 65 exhibiting brands and expected nearly 60,000 visitors, 1,700 journalists, more than 6,000 retailers, and around 50,000 overnight stays already reserved. These were pre-event expectations, not an audited final attendance count. The Foundation also said its exhibitor count had “almost doubled in less than five years.”

There is a brand-count discrepancy worth keeping visible: on 23 September 2025, the Foundation announced eleven additions for the 2026 edition and a total of 66 exhibitors. Its later 9 April 2026 release reported 65 exhibiting brands. The later figure is the most recent pre-event count, but the two announcements should not be combined as if they agreed.

Palexpo’s current event listing retrospectively says nearly 60,000 visitors attended over the week. That is Palexpo’s retrospective figure; it is distinct from the Foundation’s earlier estimate and should not be treated as the same measurement. The Foundation also noted that a quarter of tickets sold for the preceding edition went to people under 25; that does not describe the final audience mix in 2026.

Who organizes the fair, and what does that mean?
The Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation is a Geneva-based nonprofit created in September 2022 on the initiative of Rolex, Richemont, and Patek Philippe. Richemont identifies Chanel, Hermès, and LVMH among its board members as well. This is an institutionally organized industry event, not a neutral census of every watchmaker or every part of the trade.
Foundation CEO Matthieu Humair described the aim this way: “Watches and Wonders Geneva is a place that brings people together, inspires and guides the industry. Together, we are building the watchmaking of tomorrow.” That statement reflects the organizer’s mission; it does not establish that the event represents the entire industry.

Can the public attend, and what is next?
The 2026 public days have passed. Palexpo’s current listing gives 5–11 April 2027 for the next Watches and Wonders Geneva and lists day admission at CHF 70 for adults and CHF 40 for students. Confirm the dates, current prices, and ticket conditions on the official listing before making plans, because the 2027 ticket rules are not established by the terms for the 2026 edition.
For the concluded 2026 event, tickets had to be purchased online in advance; a buyer could purchase up to six. The terms required attendee details and a photograph for the e-badge, as well as identity documentation at entry. These were 2026 requirements and should not be assumed to apply unchanged in 2027.

The useful distinction is not simply “old fair versus new fair.” Compare events by how they handle trade access and public days, whether activity is concentrated in one venue or spread across the city, which exhibitors participate, what visitors can do beyond viewing displays, and how practical access works. For Watches and Wonders, the 2026 program and 2027 Palexpo listing provide concrete answers on format and access. Comparable verified figures for other fairs are not established here.
For visitors traveling with a watch, a compact travel case can be a practical packing choice; it is a personal travel consideration, not an organizer recommendation. The Foundation’s advance estimate of around 50,000 overnight stays reserved underlines the event’s travel footprint, but does not establish demand for any particular travel accessory.
