Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore paying for a pre-owned luxury watch, verify the exact watch and its condition, assess the seller separately, and understand the return, warranty, and payment terms that apply to your transaction. “Pre-owned,” “used,” and “vintage” are labels—not proof of originality, condition, or authenticity.
Start with the exact watch, not the listing label
Ask for the brand, model and reference number, plus serial details where appropriate. Request clear, current photographs from multiple angles and compare the watch with the written description. The listing should identify its configuration and disclose replaced or aftermarket parts; check that the stated accessories and other included items are actually part of the sale.

Terms such as “used” can cover a wide range of conditions, from an unpacked watch to one showing visible wear. “Vintage” has no universal age cutoff. Chrono24’s buyer guide uses watches from the 1990s or earlier as a rough convention and describes pieces around 20 to 25 years old as commonly “neo-vintage”; these are the guide’s terminology, not industry-wide definitions. Inspect visible condition and ask about service
Look closely at the case, dial, bracelet, and hands
Review photographs for scratches, dents, bracelet stretch or wear, and signs of hard impact. Ask for additional images if an area is obscured or the photos do not clearly match the description. A loupe can help you examine visible details, but it is only an inspection aid; it cannot authenticate a watch.

Get the maintenance history
Ask when the watch was last serviced, who performed the work, and whether documentation is available. Request information about its current technical condition, too. A service record can help establish what work was done, but it is not, by itself, proof that every component is original or that the watch is authentic. If condition or originality is uncertain, arrange an independent specialist inspection before the purchase becomes final. Visible inspection aids are not a substitute for that assessment. Chrono24’s guide recommends checking the watch and requesting maintenance and technical-condition information. Read the guide
Check the seller and provenance independently
Review the seller’s history and feedback, and note whether answers are prompt and consistent. Ask a private seller how they acquired the watch. An evasive response or refusal is a reason to pause rather than proceed on trust. Keep a record of the listing and the seller’s written answers so you can compare them with the watch and sale terms.

Understand what a certification does—and does not—promise
Brand certification and marketplace certification are separate programs. Their eligibility rules, inspection scope, definitions of acceptable configuration, warranties, and remedies differ. Read the terms for the exact watch, seller, and location rather than treating a certification label as a universal guarantee.

Chrono24 Certified
Chrono24 describes its certification as a marketplace service involving verified watchmakers. Its stated checks include authenticity and function, included items, and serial numbers checked against lost-or-stolen databases. Its FAQ defines acceptable authenticity as original condition or no more than two specified non-original, non-branded replacement parts; aftermarket parts must be disclosed. Customized, modified, and counterfeit watches are excluded. That definition is not the same as a promise that every component is factory-original. Chrono24 describes a 30-day authenticity guarantee for certified watches; check its current terms for the remedy and any conditions. Chrono24 Certified Chrono24 FAQ
When comparing certified options, check who performs the inspection, what parts and configuration are documented, whether the process includes functional or theft-database checks, and what guarantee or warranty applies. Also compare service history, parts availability, seller type, return and escrow periods, shipping costs, and local eligibility. Payment protection is not a mechanical warranty.

Read the transaction terms before sending payment
Confirm the return window, when any payment is released to the seller, who pays for insured delivery and return shipping, and what happens if the watch differs from the listing. Use the payment process and protections stated for the specific transaction; do not assume a marketplace policy applies to every seller or country.
