Sylvain Berneron is the designer and founder behind the independent Swiss watch brand Berneron, best known for its asymmetrical Mirage watches. He is not accurately described as the sole watchmaker of their movements: the Mirage calibre was developed with Le Cercle des Horlogers. The watches pair deliberately off-centre design with slim, hand-wound, gold-cased construction, and are made in limited numbers in Switzerland.
Who is Sylvain Berneron?
Berneron is an independent Swiss watch designer and the founder of the brand that carries his name. Hodinkee describes him as a designer, and reports that the Mirage movement was developed in partnership with Le Cercle des Horlogers. That distinction matters: the watches are Berneron’s design, but the available reporting does not establish that he personally made the movements alone. Berneron describes its work as conceiving, developing, manufacturing and assembling watches in the Swiss cantons of Neuchâtel and Jura.

What is a Berneron Mirage watch?
The Mirage is the brand’s defining collection. Its central design choice is asymmetry: according to Berneron, the case form follows the layout of the movement instead of starting from a conventional symmetrical case. The result is a watch whose outline, dial and movement architecture are conceived together.

Berneron emphasizes slim all-gold cases and proprietary hand-wound calibres. These are the maker’s descriptions and design claims; the model specifications below are published on its product pages. The three examples differ in size, gold type, dial, movement layout, annual production and price.

Choosing by proportions
The Tiger Eye is the smaller option on paper: its 30 × 34 mm case and 38 mm lug-to-lug measurement are more compact than the 38 × 34 mm case and 42 mm lug-to-lug dimensions of the two Mirage 38 models. All three are listed at 7 mm thick. These dimensions offer a useful first comparison, though wrist fit also depends on the case shape and personal preference.
Choosing by movement and appearance
The models use distinct calibres rather than sharing one movement with different dial treatments. Calibre 215 powers the Tiger Eye, Calibre 233 the Prussian Blue, and Calibre 283 the Miroir Yellow. The Prussian Blue’s inverted hand set and the Miroir’s mirrored architecture are specific design features; all three cited specifications give a 72-hour reserve. Dial material and case gold also distinguish them: Tiger Eye stone and yellow gold, Prussian Blue with white gold, and Miroir Yellow in yellow gold.

The official prices for these three references range from CHF 58,500 to CHF 130,250, excluding VAT, based on Berneron’s product pages accessed in 2026. The higher Miroir Yellow figure is for the gold-bracelet version; its leather version is listed at CHF 72,500. VAT, import charges and other costs can affect the amount a buyer ultimately pays in their country, so these Swiss-franc prices are not delivered-price quotes.
How are Berneron watches made and sold?
Berneron says its watches are conceived, developed, manufactured and assembled in Neuchâtel and Jura, Switzerland. The product pages describe limited annual production and allocation rather than ordinary mass retail availability. Published production totals should not be mistaken for current stock: the Prussian Blue is listed as all allocated, while the Tiger Eye and Miroir Yellow are allocated on demand. Prospective buyers are directed to enquire with the brand through its official website; availability and terms should be confirmed for the specific reference.
What recognition has the Mirage received?
The Mirage Sienna received the 2024 Audacity Prize, as identified in GPHG press-review material. That recognition applies to the Sienna model; it should not be presented as an award won by every Mirage or every Berneron watch. Berneron’s media index also mentions a Quantième Annuel and a 2025 launch, but the currently available details cited here do not establish complete specifications or purchase terms for those pieces.

- Current allocation: annual production figures describe the maker’s stated output, not whether a specific watch is available now.
- Final price: confirm the current price, taxes and delivery costs for the buyer’s location; published figures are in CHF and exclude VAT.
- Warranty and servicing: the Tiger Eye page states a two-year warranty and says service intervals may range from five to ten years depending on use.
