The 2022 Omega CK 859 is my pick for the brand’s best new watch of that year because it combines a restrained, 1939-inspired sector dial with a hand-wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement. That is a personal preference, not an objective ranking: the CK 859’s quiet, dress-oriented character is exactly what makes it appealing—and exactly what may leave other Omega fans wanting more.
Which Omega CK 859 is this?
This is the 2022 steel re-edition, reference 511.12.39.21.99.002, not an original vintage CK 859. Its design takes inspiration from a 1939 Omega model, but the watch discussed here pairs that historical cue with a modern movement. Monochrome named the CK 859 its favorite new Omega in 2022; Fratello offered the contrasting view that it was the brand’s “most boring” release that year, making a case for simplicity. Those are editorial opinions, not a consensus or a measurable award. Monochrome’s opinion and Fratello’s counterpoint make the divide clear.
Why the CK 859 stands out to me
A sector dial with a measured presence
The 39 mm steel case holds a silver Ag925 dial arranged in a sector layout: concentric divisions give the face structure without the visual busyness of a chronograph or a prominent bezel. Dark markings, blued hands and recessed small seconds add contrast while keeping the overall effect composed. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and a sapphire exhibition caseback complete the design, according to independent 2022 coverage. Hodinkee’s introduction and Fratello’s hands-on review describe the watch’s details.
A hand-wound movement with substance
The CK 859 uses Omega caliber 8926, a manually wound movement. Fratello and Hodinkee report a Co-Axial escapement, twin barrels, a 72-hour power reserve, a 25,200-vibrations-per-hour (3.5 Hz) rate, Master Chronometer certification and resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. Those specifications give the watch mechanical interest beyond its vintage-inspired styling; winding it by hand is also part of the ownership experience, rather than a convenience feature. The figures here are from 2022 independent watch coverage, not a current official Omega technical page. Fratello and Hodinkee provide the reported specifications.

What the dimensions and water resistance mean
The reported case diameter is 39 mm. Hodinkee gives a thickness of 11.7 mm and a lug-to-lug measurement of 46.2 mm; Fratello lists a 20 mm lug width and 30 m water resistance. Those measurements offer a more useful sense of the watch’s footprint than diameter alone, though fit still depends on wrist shape and personal preference. The 30 m rating is a modest specification, so this is best understood as a dress-oriented watch rather than a watch chosen for swimming or sport. Hodinkee and Fratello are the sources for these measurements.
Who is likely to agree that it is the best?
The CK 859 makes the strongest case for someone who values restraint, classic proportions and an unusual dial more than conspicuous novelty. Its small seconds and hand-wound movement suit a deliberate, dress-watch experience. Someone looking for a more versatile sports watch, higher water resistance or a visually bold release may reasonably prefer another Omega. Without a specific alternative model and comparable evidence, there is no basis to claim that the CK 859 is objectively better on wearability, performance or value.

Launch prices and present-day availability
The prices attached to the CK 859 at launch in 2022 varied by market and publication. They are historical, not current price guidance:
| Market | Reported 2022 price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| United States | US$6,500 launch-era price | Hodinkee and Monochrome |
| Euro market | €6,800 launch-era price in Fratello and Monochrome; €6,900 in Time and Watches | Fratello, Monochrome and Time and Watches |
| Japan | ¥825,000 manufacturer list price as reported in 2022 | KOMEHYO |
Fratello later reported that Omega told the publication the steel model had been discontinued and described production as time-limited. Its review also calls the watch a “numbered (not limited) edition”: being numbered does not by itself establish a fixed edition size. That historical report does not confirm stock or availability in October 2026, in any particular region. Check with Omega or an authorized dealer for current status, and assess seller reputation, authentication, warranty and price if considering a pre-owned example. Fratello’s review is the source for its availability report.
