Zenith introduced black ceramic versions of the Defy Skyline and Defy Skyline Skeleton on March 31, 2023. Both have black ceramic cases and bracelets and come with a patterned rubber strap; the key difference is the display: the Skyline has a conventional dial, while the Skeleton leaves its movement visible.

What changed in the black ceramic Defy Skyline models?

The March 31, 2023 launch added black ceramic versions of two distinct Defy Skyline watches. Each pairs a black ceramic case with a matching bracelet and includes a black patterned rubber strap. Zenith’s announcement covers both models; the reference numbers identify which dial treatment you are looking at.

Model Reference Dial and distinguishing details
Defy Skyline Black Ceramic 49.9300.3620/21.I001 Conventional dial; black ceramic case and bracelet; patterned rubber strap included.
Defy Skyline Skeleton Black Ceramic 49.9300.3620/78.I001 Openworked display showing the movement; black ceramic case and bracelet; patterned rubber strap included.

Zenith’s March 31, 2023 pressroom announcement introduced both references. The 2026 official product page identifies the black-dial Skeleton reference and its technical specifications.

How does the regular Skyline differ from the Skeleton?

Defy Skyline Black Ceramic

The regular Skyline is the choice for a more conventional dial layout. Its black ceramic exterior is shared with the Skeleton, but the watch does not use the Skeleton’s openworked display. Its reference is 49.9300.3620/21.I001.

The Skeleton, reference 49.9300.3620/78.I001, opens up the dial to expose the movement. Zenith describes its high-frequency El Primero movement and a 1/10-second indicator. That mechanical display gives it a more visually complex face; the regular Skyline keeps the movement behind a conventional dial instead.

What are the black-dial Skeleton’s specifications?

Zenith’s Luxembourg product page specifies the black-dial Skeleton as a 41 mm watch with 10 ATM water resistance. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified test results.

Specification Black-dial Skeleton, ref. 49.9300.3620/78.I001
Case diameter 41 mm
Water resistance 10 ATM
Movement frequency 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz)
Power reserve Approximately 55 hours, according to Zenith
Movement components 163, according to Zenith
Bracelet and strap Ceramic bracelet and second black patterned rubber strap

The stated reserve is not consistent across all available listings: The Hour Glass Singapore lists 60 hours for the same reference, whereas Zenith specifies approximately 55 hours. Treat Zenith’s figure as the manufacturer specification; the retailer listing is a discrepancy, not proof of a revised specification.

How much does the Zenith Defy Skyline Skeleton cost?

Zenith’s Luxembourg storefront lists the black-dial Skeleton, ref. 49.9300.3620/78.I001, at €19,100. The Hour Glass Singapore lists that reference at SGD 26,500. Those figures are specific to the named regional listings, not universal prices.

Zenith announced a separate gold-toned Skeleton on January 19, 2026, reference 49.9300.3620/07.I001. For that edition, which pairs black ceramic with a gold-toned openworked dial and movement, Zenith listed CHF 16,900, EUR 19,100, and USD 18,900. These prices belong to the 2026 gold-toned reference and should not be applied automatically to the 2023 black-dial Skeleton or the regular Skyline.

Is the 2026 gold-toned Skeleton the same watch?

No. The 2026 gold-toned Skeleton is a separate presentation, not a color update to the 2023 black-dial reference. Its reference is 49.9300.3620/07.I001, and its gold-toned openworked dial and movement contrast with the black-dial Skeleton, ref. 49.9300.3620/78.I001. Zenith’s January 2026 announcement gives the gold-toned edition a 41 mm case, 10 ATM water resistance, automatic El Primero 3620 SK movement, 36,000 vibrations per hour, approximately 55 hours of power reserve, and a 1/10-second counter at 6 o’clock. Zenith’s headline described it as “URBAN LIGHT, BLACK STRUCTURE: THE NEW DEFY SKYLINE SKELETON IN ARCHITECTURAL CONTRASTS”—brand language rather than an independent assessment.

Which version should you consider?

  • Choose the regular Skyline if you want the black ceramic case and bracelet with a conventional dial; its reference is 49.9300.3620/21.I001.
  • Choose the black-dial Skeleton if seeing the openworked movement is central to the appeal; its reference is 49.9300.3620/78.I001.
  • Look at the gold-toned Skeleton separately if you want the later gold-toned dial and movement; its reference is 49.9300.3620/07.I001.
