For most Samsung Galaxy owners, the Galaxy Buds3 Pro is the best all-round choice for fitness and work—provided it fits your ears well and is available at a sensible discount. The Galaxy Buds2 Pro is the better bargain and may stay more securely in some ears, while the original Galaxy Buds FE offers the strongest retention design on a budget but has a major IPX2 water-resistance limitation.
Important US buying context: this is a focused comparison of three older or discounted models, not Samsung’s current complete lineup as of August 18, 2026. Samsung now also sells the newer Galaxy Buds3 FE and Galaxy Buds4 series. Those alternatives appear below.

Quick verdict
| Best for | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall | Galaxy Buds3 Pro | Best combination of calls, sound, ANC, ambient features, wireless charging and IP57 protection. |
| Best value | Galaxy Buds2 Pro | Compact, secure-fitting design, IPX7 protection and premium features at a potentially much lower discount price. |
| Best budget workout fit | Galaxy Buds FE | Wingtip-assisted retention gives some users a better chance of staying secure during movement. |
| Best for heavy sweat or rain | Galaxy Buds3 Pro | Its IP57 rating adds dust protection to strong water protection. |
| Best for users who dislike stems | Galaxy Buds2 Pro | Its small, rounded, stem-free shell is discreet and comfortable for many ears. |
For workouts, fit and water protection matter more than small differences in codecs or driver specifications. A premium earbud that shifts during a run is a worse choice than a cheaper one that stays sealed and secure.

Galaxy Buds3 Pro: best overall for fitness and work
The Galaxy Buds3 Pro is the most capable model in this comparison. Samsung lists IP57 protection, adaptive noise-control features, a two-way speaker and Galaxy-focused software features. It also supports USB-C and wireless charging. Samsung’s product page provides the model’s feature details.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatibility & Battery Life: The Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro are compatible with Android devices running Android 8.0 or later with at least 1.5GB RAM. They provide 5-8 hours of playback depending on Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) usage, and up to 18 hours with the charging case. The case supports wireless and wired charging, including Fast Charging technology for quick top-ups.
- Audio Features: Equipped with Bluetooth 5.4, the Buds 3 Pro support SSC HiFi and UHQ audio codecs, delivering 24bit/96KHz audio for superior sound quality. They also include 360 Audio with Direct Multi-Channel for an immersive listening experience, especially when paired with Galaxy devices.
- ANC & AI Features: The Buds 3 Pro feature improved Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and advanced Galaxy AI, which enhances functionalities like real-time language translation, personalized sound profiles, and environment-based voice optimization. (Note: Galaxy AI features require a Samsung Galaxy device for full functionality).
- Call Features: With enhanced Super Wideband (SWB) microphones and AI-based noise reduction, the Buds 3 Pro improve call clarity by filtering out surrounding noise and reconstructing lost voice bits, ensuring clear and uninterrupted communication even in noisy environments.Water & Sweat Resistance: These earbuds are IPX7-rated for water resistance, making them more suitable for workouts and outdoor use in varying weather conditions.
- International Model without Domestic Warranty. Optimized Features: The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro are optimized for Android, particularly Samsung Galaxy devices, for advanced features such as 360 Audio, UHQ audio codecs, and real-time AI-based functionalities. While they are compatible with iOS devices via Bluetooth, certain features are exclusive to Galaxy Android devices.
Why it is the top pick
- Strongest protection: IP57 is the most reassuring rating here for sweaty, dusty or rainy training.
- Better workday versatility: its newer microphone system, ambient-awareness features and voice-detection functions make it the strongest option for calls and conversations.
- Convenient controls: the stem or “blade” design makes pinch and swipe controls easy to reach for many users.
- Premium sound hardware: the two-way speaker is a stronger technical proposition than the FE’s single-driver design.
- Wireless charging: useful if your Galaxy phone or charging pad supports it.
Its quoted battery life is up to six hours with ANC enabled or seven hours with ANC disabled, with the case extending total listening time. These are manufacturer estimates rather than guaranteed real-world runtimes; calls, volume, temperature, Bluetooth conditions and battery age can reduce them.
The fit is not automatically better
The Buds3 Pro’s stem can make controls and microphones more convenient, but the shape is highly ear-dependent. Independent testing describes the earbuds as generally comfortable and stable while noting that difficult-to-fit ears remain an exception. Some users may find the compact Buds2 Pro more secure, especially during running or jumping. See RTINGS’ Buds3 Pro review and its Buds3 Pro versus Buds2 Pro comparison.
A loose seal reduces bass, weakens passive isolation and can make ANC seem ineffective. Try the supplied tip sizes, insert each earbud with a slight twist and use the fit test where available. Sweat, glasses, hair and ear shape can all change the result.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Do not pay a large premium for Buds3 Pro if the Buds2 Pro fits you better or if you mainly need inexpensive earbuds for indoor lifting. The newer model is an upgrade in features, but not a universal upgrade in comfort or retention.
Galaxy Buds2 Pro: best value and a serious running option
The Galaxy Buds2 Pro remains highly relevant when discounted. Its compact, rounded, stem-free design suits users who dislike the Buds3 Pro’s blade-style shape, and some listeners find it more secure during movement. It has IPX7 water resistance, ANC, ambient sound, USB-C charging and wireless charging.
Its main disadvantages in 2026 are age, less certain official availability, older microphones and weaker dust protection than the Buds3 Pro. Samsung’s former US Buds2 Pro page may redirect shoppers to newer products, so remaining-stock, open-box and refurbished listings require extra care. Check the seller, warranty, return policy and battery condition.
When it beats the Buds3 Pro
- You prefer a discreet earbud with no stem.
- The rounded shell stays secure in your ears during running or lifting.
- You find it substantially cheaper from a reputable seller.
- You want wireless charging and strong water protection without needing the newest Galaxy features.
Independent comparisons have found the Buds2 Pro competitive in ANC, controls, value and overall use, particularly when its street price is far below the Buds3 Pro. SoundGuys’ comparison and Tom’s Guide’s comparison provide useful context.

The original Galaxy Buds FE is the most fitness-oriented in physical design because its stabilizing wingtip can help prevent rotation and movement. That makes it a sensible choice for gym users who routinely lose conventional in-ear earbuds.
Its battery rating is competitive: up to six hours with ANC on or nine hours with ANC off, plus up to 21 or 30 additional hours from the case, respectively. Samsung’s US specification sheet provides those figures.
Rank #2
- EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO: Catch details like never before. Designed with a High-Res Audio¹ 24-bit hi-fi codec, the latest Galaxy earbuds maintain the integrity of your favorite audio over Bluetooth.
- TWO-WAY SPEAKER: Enjoy every audio experience to the fullest with two speakers in both Buds, including a tweeter for rich highs and a woofer for deep, full lows.
- HD VOICE: Enjoy clear phone calls with Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Galaxy S26 Series² —they work together to deliver crisp and clear conversations.
- ANC 2.0: Wherever you go, Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation 2.0³ intelligently adapts in real time to provide stronger, smoother noise cancellation wherever you go.
- OPTIMIZED COMFORT: Enjoy that just-right fit, with an improved, ear-hugging design and changeable ear tips.
The decisive drawback: IPX2
The original Buds FE is rated IPX2. That indicates limited protection against vertically falling water drops when tilted; it is not a rating for rain, heavy sweat, rinsing or deliberate water exposure. Treat it as an indoor, light-to-moderate-sweat earbud.
For heavy sweaters, outdoor runners or anyone training in unpredictable weather, the Buds FE’s lower water protection is difficult to justify unless the price is substantially lower and you are prepared to keep it dry. It also lacks the premium conveniences of the other two models, including wireless charging.

Do not confuse Galaxy Buds FE with the newer Galaxy Buds3 FE. They are different products with different designs and specifications.
Which stays in during exercise?
No model can be declared universally most secure. Ear-canal size, concha shape, sweat, glasses, hair and movement all matter. The practical fit ranking is:
- Choose Buds FE first if ordinary earbuds routinely fall out and the supplied wingtip suits your ear.
- Choose Buds2 Pro if a small, rounded, stem-free shell feels more stable in your ears.
- Choose Buds3 Pro if its blade design gives you a dependable seal and you value better calls and features.
For static lifting, any well-fitted model can work. HIIT, jumping and running expose weak retention quickly. Cycling and outdoor training introduce a second concern: awareness of traffic and other hazards.
Touch or pinch controls can also behave differently when you are sweating. A control that is easy to use deliberately may still be triggered accidentally when adjusting an earbud. Test controls during movement before relying on them in a race or busy gym.

| Model | Rating | Practical interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Buds3 Pro | IP57 | Strong water protection plus dust protection; the most reassuring option here, but not a promise against every form of sweat or water damage. |
| Galaxy Buds2 Pro | IPX7 | Considerably stronger water protection, but no dust rating; the case is not automatically protected to the same standard. |
| Galaxy Buds FE | IPX2 | Limited protection against falling drops; keep it away from rain, heavy sweat and deliberate rinsing. |
IP ratings describe laboratory protection under defined conditions, not a blanket guarantee of “waterproof” use. Sweat contains salt; sunscreen, pool chemicals and cleaning products can accelerate damage. The charging case and its contacts need special care and generally have weaker or no equivalent water protection.
After exercise, wipe the earbuds and let them dry fully before placing them in the case. Never charge wet earbuds. If water enters the charging contacts, allow everything to dry before troubleshooting.
ANC and Ambient Sound for workouts
ANC is useful on treadmills, in weight rooms, on airplanes and near office HVAC. Ambient mode is more important when you need gym announcements, conversation or outdoor awareness.
Rank #3
- REDESIGNED WITH THE BEST SOUND IN MIND: Keep your Galaxy Buds3 Pro in with a design that delivers long-lasting comfort for an immersive listening experience
- A SLEEK DESIGN MADE TO SHINE: Let your sound shine as much as you do with Buds3 Pro that light up¹
- AUDIO THAT ADAPTS TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS: Immerse yourself while staying alert to your surroundings thanks to Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation with Galaxy AI²; Your Buds will automatically adapt to help you hear what matters²
- AUDIO TAILORED TO BEST FIT YOU: Immerse yourself in the best listening experience, no matter how you wear your Galaxy Buds3 Pro; An Adaptive Equalizer for Sound Optimization with Galaxy AI allows you to get the most out of your audio²
- SOUND THAT TRANSPORTS YOU: Your favorite content deserves our best and most immersive audio¹
Buds3 Pro and Buds2 Pro are close enough in practical ANC capability that individual fit can matter more than the model name. A poor seal can make either one sound weak. Wind can also reduce ANC quality and create artifacts. The FE provides useful ANC for its price, but its lower-tier hardware and fit-dependent seal make it harder to treat as a premium noise-control option.
Do not use maximum ANC while running near traffic or cycling in public areas. Ambient mode, low volume or no audio is safer when you need to hear vehicles, cyclists, people and announcements.
Sound quality for exercise
For gym listening, the practical ranking is Buds3 Pro first, Buds2 Pro close behind, and Buds FE as the value option.
- Buds3 Pro: the strongest hardware proposition, with a two-way speaker and newer high-resolution features.
- Buds2 Pro: energetic, enjoyable sound that remains excellent when discounted.
- Buds FE: adequate and potentially very good value, but positioned below the two premium models with a single-driver design.
Fit and EQ usually matter more than codec marketing. A reliable seal has a larger effect on bass and perceived impact than small codec differences. Samsung-only high-resolution features, 360 Audio and some Galaxy AI functions also require compatible Galaxy hardware and software, so they should not drive a premium purchase for iPhone or generic Android users.
Calls and office work
The Buds3 Pro is the strongest choice if your workout earbuds also need to handle frequent calls. Its newer microphone and background-noise features give it an advantage in the comparison, while the stem places the microphones in a different position that may help some users. Tom’s Guide found both the Buds2 Pro and Buds3 Pro capable for calls, with the newer model performing better in its testing.
The Buds2 Pro remains suitable for quiet offices and ordinary calls. The FE can handle basic calls, but it is the budget choice rather than the model to select for demanding conversations in a noisy gym.
Ambient mode and automatic voice-detection features are especially useful when moving between music, colleagues and calls. Comfort also matters: a model that fits well for 30 minutes may become tiring during a full workday.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compatibility beyond Samsung phones
All three can provide basic Bluetooth audio beyond Samsung phones, but the full experience varies. Android users may need compatible software and the Galaxy Wearable app for settings and updates. iPhone and Windows users should think of these primarily as Bluetooth earbuds for audio and calls, not as a complete Samsung ecosystem accessory.
Samsung-specific codecs, 360 Audio, automatic switching, Galaxy AI, Interpreter and device-level controls may be limited or unavailable outside compatible Galaxy devices. Samsung’s product information lists compatibility and prerequisites for particular features, so check those requirements before paying extra for Buds3 Pro capabilities.

Best choice by activity
| Activity | Best starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Weight training | Buds3 Pro or Buds FE | Choose Buds3 Pro for features and protection; FE for low-cost wingtip retention. |
| HIIT and jumping | Buds FE or the model that seals best | The wingtip may help, but personal fit decides the result. |
| Running | Buds3 Pro or Buds2 Pro | Better water protection; select Buds2 Pro if its compact shell is more secure. |
| Cycling outdoors | Buds3 Pro or Buds2 Pro with Ambient mode | Prioritize water protection and situational awareness. |
| Indoor walking | Buds FE | Good budget choice if sweat exposure is modest. |
| Outdoor hiking | Buds3 Pro | Best protection of these three, though the case still needs to stay dry. |
| Work calls after training | Buds3 Pro | Best combination of calls, ambient features and premium controls. |
Price and discount decision
Do not use one static price to rank older Samsung earbuds. Buds2 Pro and the original Buds FE may be remaining-stock products, and retailer listings can be new, open-box, refurbished or counterfeit.
- If Buds3 Pro costs only modestly more than Buds2 Pro: choose Buds3 Pro for newer features, better protection and calls.
- If Buds2 Pro is deeply discounted: choose it if the compact fit works for you and the seller is reputable.
- If Buds FE is the only model within budget: it is reasonable for indoor workouts with light-to-moderate sweat.
- If the price gap between Buds FE and a better-protected model is small: the FE’s IPX2 limitation becomes difficult to justify.
For older or marketplace stock, verify the exact model, seller, warranty, return policy, included accessories and battery condition. The original Buds FE specification sheet confirms product details but does not establish a current US selling price.
What to do if something goes wrong
The earbuds loosen when you sweat
Try another tip size, clean and dry the tips, and reinsert each earbud with a slight twist. A larger tip is not automatically more secure. A poor seal can also reduce bass and ANC.
They fall out while running
Try the Buds FE wingtip if your ears accept it, or switch to the compact Buds2 Pro if stem-style earbuds move in your ears. Third-party tips can help, but confirm that they still fit inside the charging case.
ANC sounds weak
Check the seal and tip size first. Confirm that Ambient or Adaptive mode is not active, and inspect the microphones for debris. Wind can also make ANC seem less effective.
One earbud drains faster
Clean the charging contacts, confirm both buds sit correctly in the case and check whether one side is handling more microphone, assistant or call activity.
The case or earbuds will not charge
Dry the earbuds and contacts completely, then clean them carefully. Do not assume the case has the same water rating as the earbuds. The original Buds FE should not be treated as a wireless-charging model.
2026 alternatives to consider
If you are buying new rather than hunting discounted stock, also consider Samsung’s newer models:
Recommended Free Tools
- Galaxy Buds3 FE: a newer FE product with a blade-style design, IP54 protection, up to six hours with ANC or 8.5 hours without ANC, and up to 24 or 30 hours total according to Samsung’s US page. It is not the original wingtip-equipped Buds FE, so do not assume identical retention.
- Galaxy Buds4 Pro: the current flagship successor class to Buds3 Pro. It is the logical model to investigate before paying near-full price for an older Buds3 Pro, although newer features still cannot guarantee a better fit.
Samsung’s current US product and support pages provide the latest lineup context: Samsung’s Buds support page and the Galaxy Buds3 FE product page.
Final recommendation
Buy the Galaxy Buds3 Pro if you want one pair for workouts, calls and office use, especially if you train outdoors or sweat heavily. Buy the Galaxy Buds2 Pro when its compact design fits you better or its discount is substantial. Buy the original Galaxy Buds FE only when its wingtip retention and low price outweigh the serious IPX2 limitation—and keep it to light-sweat indoor workouts.
