Bulova has added automatic models to three lines: a GMT-style Aerojet, a rectangular open-heart Sutton Classic, and a round two-tone open-heart Surveyor. The Surveyor 98A284 is the only one of the three whose specifications we can match to a Bulova product page. The Aerojet and Sutton details come from a sponsored aBlogtoWatch feature, so read them as reported specifications, not tested ones.
The three additions at a glance
| Model | Reference | Shape and size | Dial feature | Reported movement | Reported reserve |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aerojet GMT | 96B375 (golden-brown dial, steel bracelet) | Round; about 41 mm diameter, 12 mm thick, 48 mm lug-to-lug | 24-hour subdial at 9 o’clock | Modified Miyota 8217 | About 40 hours |
| Sutton Classic | 9SA268 (silver dial); 9SA269 (black dial, silver accents) | Rectangular; 33 mm wide | Open-heart aperture | Modified Miyota 82S0 variant, 21,600 vph | About 42 hours |
| Surveyor Open Heart | 98A284 | Round, two-tone; 42 mm wide, about 12 mm thick | Open-heart aperture | 82S0 (per the feature) | Not stated for this model |
All figures except the Surveyor’s case width and lug width come from the aBlogtoWatch feature. It is a sponsored post for Bulova. Its own disclosure says the opinions are not necessarily those of the publication’s writers. Its original publication date was not established. The praise in it is advertiser-backed and is not independent testing.
Aerojet: the GMT option
The feature describes a blue-gradient dial with a white crosshair, gold-tone hands and indices, and a 24-hour subdial at 9 o’clock. It calls the watch a GMT. A subdial-based 24-hour display is a different design from a central GMT hand, so check how the second time zone is read before you buy it for travel.
The reported size is about 41 mm across, 12 mm thick and 48 mm lug-to-lug. The lug-to-lug figure is the one that matters most for fit on a smaller wrist. The movement is described as a modified Miyota 8217 with roughly 40 hours of reserve. Reference 96B375 is the golden-brown-dial version on a stainless-steel bracelet. The feature also describes leather-strap variants.
Sutton Classic: rectangular and open-heart
Reference 9SA268 has a 33 mm-wide rectangular stainless-steel case. It has a silver machined guilloche dial with rose accents and an open-heart aperture. The 9SA269 is named as a black-dial, silver-accent variation. One sentence about the companion variation of the first reference was cut off in the source, so no further reference numbers are given here.
The movement is described as a modified Miyota 82S0 variation running at 21,600 vibrations per hour, with about 42 hours of reserve. At 33 mm wide, this is the smallest of the three and the most dressy. Rectangular cases wear differently from round ones of the same width, so the width figure alone understates how it sits on the wrist.

Surveyor Open Heart 98A284: the best-documented model
This is the only one of the three with a Bulova product page behind it. That page confirms:
- Automatic movement in a two-tone stainless-steel case and bracelet, gold- and silver-tone.
- Silver-tone dial with gold accents and an aperture showing the balance wheel and escapement.
- 42 mm case width and 22 mm lug width.
- Mineral crystal.
- A water resistance described as splash-resistant. Treat that as no more than rain and hand-washing protection, and do not swim or shower in it.
The sponsored feature adds an oyster-style bracelet, a silver sunburst dial and a case thickness of about 12 mm. It attributes the movement to the 82S0.

Because this version comes on a bracelet, a strap swap needs a check of the attachment type first. No lug widths are established for the Aerojet or Sutton.

What they cost
The feature gave a range of $350 to $500 USD across the watches it covered. Treat that as launch-era context, not a current quote. When checked, Bulova’s page for the 98A284 showed $476 against a listed $595. Bulova’s collection page showed different prices for various Sutton and Surveyor models. Prices and availability for the Aerojet 96B375 and Sutton 9SA268/9SA269 in your market were not confirmed, and the Surveyor’s price should not be used to guess them. Look up the exact reference with your retailer before deciding.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing between them
- You want a second time zone: the Aerojet is the only one of the three with one, via the 24-hour subdial.
- You want a small dress watch: the 33 mm Sutton Classic, with a rectangular case and guilloche dial.
- You want to see the movement on a larger, bracelet-equipped watch: the 42 mm Surveyor 98A284, which has the most manufacturer-confirmed detail.
- You are fit-sensitive: compare the Aerojet’s 48 mm lug-to-lug and the Surveyor’s 42 mm width with your wrist before you buy, because only some dimensions are published for each.
The reserve figures (about 40 and 42 hours) are modest. If you rotate watches, expect them to stop after a couple of days unworn.

The Bottom Line
The Surveyor 98A284 is the safest pick on available information because Bulova’s own page confirms its core specifications. The Aerojet GMT and Sutton Classic are interesting but rest on sponsored-feature details, so confirm the reference, dimensions and price with a retailer before you buy.
