The Clemence Photic MKII pairs a compact published case profile with 200 m water resistance and a Miyota 9039 automatic movement. Clemence lists a 38.5 mm case, 46.5 mm lug length and 10.5 mm total thickness including the box sapphire crystal. Independent reviewers have handled examples, but the available hands-on accounts include prototype watches; the specifications below are the manufacturer’s, not measurements from our own testing.
What is the Photic MKII?
The Photic MKII is a compact-profile automatic dive watch from Scottish brand Clemence. Clemence says its watches are designed and assembled in Britain using components made by partners around the world. The MKII combines a 200 m water-resistance rating with a 20 mm strap width, screw-down crown, rotating dive bezel and luminous hands and markers. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent verification of dive performance.
The manufacturer distinguishes a 38.5 mm case diameter from a 39 mm bezel diameter. That distinction matters when comparing the watch with other models: listings that quote a single diameter may be measuring different parts. Fratello’s November 2025 hands-on article gives a conflicting 39.5 mm diameter, so the figures should not be collapsed into one supposedly settled measurement.
Published specifications
| Specification | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Case and bezel | 38.5 mm case diameter; 39 mm bezel diameter; 46.5 mm lug length; 20 mm lug width; 9.9 mm case thickness and 10.5 mm including the box crystal, according to Clemence’s product page. |
| Water resistance | 200 m, as specified by Clemence. The rating alone does not establish suitability for a particular dive or replace appropriate equipment and training. |
| Movement | Miyota 9039 automatic, regulated by Clemence in three positions to a stated minimum accuracy of ±12 seconds per day. Fratello reports 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 42-hour power reserve. |
| Case and bezel materials | 316L steel case; 904L bezel ring with ball-bearing click mechanism; domed sapphire bezel insert. Clemence’s technical page specifies 120 clicks. |
| Crystal and lume | Box sapphire crystal with eight internal anti-reflective layers; hands and applied markers filled with ten layers of Grade A BGW9, according to Clemence. |
| Additional protection | Clemence claims more than 25,000 A/m of magnetic protection and a 1,000 HV hardened coating on steel touch points. These figures are manufacturer claims, not independently tested results. |
| Warranty | Two years, as stated on the official product page; full exclusions and regional terms are not established here. |

How the size may wear
The combination of 38.5 mm case diameter, 46.5 mm lug length and 10.5 mm overall thickness gives a more useful starting point for assessing fit than diameter alone. The total thickness includes the box crystal; the case itself is listed at 9.9 mm. Clemence’s measurements are published specifications, not independent measurements, and wrist shape and strap choice affect the feel in use.
The lugs are drilled, and the stated width between them is 20 mm. That standard width opens up the possibility of alternate straps, but it does not confirm that every third-party strap or quick-release bar will fit correctly.
Choose among five colorways
| Colorway | Published dial and bezel description |
|---|---|
| Moray | Black and slate |
| Nemo | Yellow and black |
| Shoal | Grey and slate |
| Kraken | Black and yellow |
| Photic | Blue gradient and black, with bronze-gilt accents |
The practical choice is a matter of contrast and taste: Nemo’s yellow is the most overtly bright option among the listed combinations, while Moray and Shoal use darker or muted tones. In his review, Fratello’s Michael Stockton said he preferred the Nemo prototype he handled to the Shoal prototype. That is one reviewer’s preference, not a comparison of every production colorway.

Bracelet or FKM rubber strap?
Clemence offers a stainless-steel bracelet or a Tropical FKM rubber strap, both with quick-release bars. The bracelet tapers from 20 mm at the lugs to 16 mm and has quick-release links and tool-free micro-adjustment. Clemence gives its fit range as 14–20 cm wrist circumference. The rubber strap is listed for 14–21 cm wrists.
- Choose the bracelet if you want an integrated metal look, adjustable fit and the convenience of on-the-fly micro-adjustment.
- Choose the FKM strap if you prefer a rubber dive-watch strap and a wider stated wrist-circumference range.
- Consider another 20 mm strap if you want to personalize the watch, but verify the exact strap width and spring-bar construction before ordering.
These fit ranges and construction details are Clemence’s published specifications; they are not a guarantee of comfort for every wrist. Source: Clemence product page.
What reviewers say about the hands-on experience
Michael Stockton’s Fratello article, dated November 26, 2025, describes handling Nemo and Shoal prototypes. He praised the case finishing and bracelet, and his impressions of bezel tension and alignment were positive. He also noted slight case differences between those prototypes and production pieces, so his observations should not be treated as a definitive assessment of every production watch.
Devin Pennypacker’s March 31, 2026 review for The Deep Track reports handling the watch at the Windup Watch Fair and shares his impressions of its proportions and finishing. Those are reviewer observations rather than measured tests. Neither account establishes timing accuracy, water resistance under test, or long-term durability.

Official Clemence pages showed different information when checked on October 8, 2026. The product page displayed “Out of Stock” and “From £599,” while the technical page listed £575 with the FKM strap and £649 with the steel bracelet. A search result had previously surfaced preorder wording and a Q4 2026 delivery estimate, but that status was not present on the opened product page. Treat all of these as page-specific snapshots, not a confirmed current offer or delivery promise.
Before buying, check the live product page and technical page for the selected colorway, configuration, checkout price, stock status, delivery estimate and shipping terms. The conflicting page displays make it unwise to assume one price applies to every configuration or that a shown delivery estimate remains valid.
Is the Photic MKII worth considering?
It merits consideration if you want an automatic diver with a restrained published case size, a 20 mm strap width, a choice of five colorways and a manufacturer-stated 200 m rating. The Miyota 9039 and bracelet adjustment features are concrete specification points; Clemence’s accuracy figure remains a maker claim, not a guarantee for an individual watch.

Whether it is worth buying depends on the live price and the details you value. Compare the actual checkout price for your chosen strap, confirm availability, and weigh the published dimensions against your wrist and wearing preferences. Clemence also says it works with British and international watchmakers for servicing and repairs; its founder describes those arrangements on the brand’s About page, but specific geographic coverage or service terms are not established here. The same page describes the company’s tree-planting and carbon-offset commitments; those remain company claims rather than independently audited findings.
