What the 2021 review actually says about the “10/10” headline
Rob Nudds’s review was a personal assessment, not a scored test. His closing line was: “I don’t normally rate watches out of ten but for €1,490, this is about as close to full marks as I’ve seen in 2021 so far.” The €1,490 figure is the price he referenced in May 2021, not a current price or a formal rating.

The movement performance figures come from Nudds’s 2021 review, rather than independent verification: 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), an expected accuracy of +/-5 seconds per day, maximum positional deviation of 20 seconds and a 50-hour power reserve. He reported that roughly 35 turns of the crown fully wind the watch. These are review-reported specifications and observations; the current black product listing does not repeat them. How the Cortina 1956 wears, according to the reviewer
The 46 mm lug-to-lug measurement is the dimension Nudds singled out when discussing the case’s compact proportions. At 40 mm across and 14.1 mm thick, it is not an especially thin chronograph; the comparatively short span from lug to lug is the more distinctive fit-related number in his assessment. Actual comfort still depends on wrist shape, strap choice and personal preference.

He liked the case finishing and the balance of the dial, and described the ceramic telemeter bezel as glossy. He also noted a small detail for close inspection: the seconds track is divided into fifths even though the movement runs at 4 Hz. Nudds treated this as a minor alignment preference, not a practical defect.

A telemeter scale estimates the distance to an event that can first be seen and then heard. Echo/Neutra gives lightning and thunder as an example; a firework and its sound is another. The wearer starts the chronograph when the event is seen and stops it when the sound arrives, then reads the scale for an approximate distance. Black and white 1956 Chrono variants
The black and white listings identify the same movement and core case dimensions, but variant-specific details should not be assumed to carry over. In particular, the brand’s current black page lists Old Radium lume and two specified straps, while its white page describes BGW9 lume on the bezel indices and hour and minute hands, glowing blue when illuminated. The pages’ displayed price and configuration can change; compare the live listings before choosing a variant.

Is the Echo/Neutra Cortina 1956 worth it?
The strongest case for the black Cortina 1956 is its combination of a hand-wound chronograph movement, a useful and distinctive telemeter scale, and measured proportions that Nudds found well judged, especially the 46 mm lug-to-lug. His favorable verdict reflects his view of the watch at €1,490 in 2021. Echo/Neutra’s black listing displayed €1,690 when checked in 2026, so the old review’s value judgment should not be treated as a verdict on the current price.
For a purchase decision, weigh the present price against the features and fit that matter to you: hand winding, 100 m water resistance, a domed sapphire crystal, the fixed telemeter bezel, the listed straps and the 14.1 mm thickness.
