The Formex Essence Space Glacier is a 2025 addition to the brand’s Essence meteorite-dial line, introduced for Formex’s 25th anniversary. It pairs a Muonionalusta meteorite dial—silver-plated and finished in translucent blue—with a stainless-steel case offered in 39 mm and 43 mm sizes. The natural pattern remains visible, so the dial’s appearance varies from piece to piece, Formex says.
What is the Formex Essence Space Glacier?
It is a limited-edition Essence automatic watch distinguished by a blue-tinted meteorite dial. Rather than printing or engraving a glacier motif, Formex uses the meteorite’s naturally occurring Widmanstätten pattern as the dial’s texture. The Space Glacier was announced in 2025 as part of the brand’s 25th-anniversary year.

Formex brand director Markus Walchli described the appeal to Wallpaper*: “This is a material that gives the opportunity to wear something actually extraterrestrial on the wrist”.
Is the Space Glacier dial real meteorite?
Yes. Formex identifies the dial material as Muonionalusta meteorite. The company says the material is more than 4.5 billion years old; that age is Formex’s description, not an independent measurement presented here.

According to Formex’s 39 mm product page, the dial is electroplated with 98% pure silver and receives six hand-applied layers of translucent blue-tinted zapon lacquer. The finish is intended to leave the meteorite’s Widmanstätten pattern visible rather than conceal it. Formex says the pattern makes every dial unique.
The manufacturer also says the meteorite’s conductivity allows dial feet to be soldered directly to the material, enabling a 0.5 mm meteorite slice without a brass backing. Other listed dial details include a directly machined, beveled date window and BGW9 Super-LumiNova on the hands and indexes.

Diameter is only one part of fit: the 39 mm version’s listed 45 mm lug-to-lug measurement helps describe how far it spans across the wrist. Formex does not provide corresponding height, lug width, or lug-to-lug figures for the 43 mm model on the cited product page, so a precise dimensional comparison is not available here. If possible, compare both sizes on wrist before choosing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is the case suspension system?
Formex describes a system of four springs between the upper and lower case, designed to absorb shocks and adapt to wrist movement. This is the manufacturer’s explanation of the construction, not an independent test result.
Bracelet or strap: what are the options?
Formex lists the steel bracelet with quick release and a micro-extension. Leather and rubber straps use the brand’s carbon-fiber-composite deployant clasp with fine adjustment. Formex describes strap and bracelet changes as tool-free. Check that the particular strap or bracelet fits the exact Space Glacier reference and case size before ordering; accessory compatibility can vary.
How much did the Formex Essence Space Glacier cost at launch?
These are launch-era prices reported in 2025, not verified current offers. Monochrome Watches reported EUR 1,880 on a strap and EUR 1,990 on a bracelet. Forbes reported a USD 1,870 starting price. The reports use different currencies and do not establish a directly comparable current price.
Monochrome reported that production was limited to 100 pieces per case size. Forbes reported pre-orders opening April 24, 2025, with deliveries expected at the end of that month. Those launch details do not establish present stock or availability.
Is the Space Glacier available now?
Formex’s 39 mm product page currently marks that model sold out on the brand’s site. That status is limited to the manufacturer’s page and does not establish whether independent retailers have stock. Current authorized-retailer availability and pricing have not been verified, so confirm both directly with a seller before buying.
