Garmin’s official materials reviewed do not confirm a third-generation MARQ launch. They document the original collection in 2019, MARQ (Gen 2) in 2022, and a separate MARQ Carbon collection in 2023. Garmin’s current U.S. collection page identifies the family as MARQ (Gen 2), so the claimed titanium-and-ceramic third-generation debut should be treated as unverified—not as a confirmed new watch launch.
What Garmin has officially announced
Garmin’s published chronology shows two named generations of MARQ, followed by a distinct Carbon collection. The available official announcements do not establish a third generation, its launch date, model names, pricing, regional availability, or a new titanium-and-ceramic configuration.

Garmin’s current U.S. MARQ collection page identifies the family as MARQ (Gen 2) and describes it as luxury GPS tool watches with premium materials and multisport capabilities. Product pages can change; the label reflects the page as reviewed, not a guarantee that it will remain unchanged.

The title’s claim of a “hands-on debut” and a third generation is not substantiated by the official sources listed above. Those sources do not identify a corresponding watch, provide launch specifications, or document hands-on examination. There is therefore no supported basis here to state that Garmin has launched a new model, or to give its price, release timing, configuration, or availability.
#1 Best Overall
- Premium-crafted tool watch features a bold, dual-color nautical design with a 46 mm regatta timer bezel
- Purpose-built with a domed sapphire lens and always-on display; water-resistant up to 100 meters
- Intricate jacquard-weave nylon strap with premium Quick Fit mechanism
- GPS sailing features include speed, distance, heading, virtual starting line, tack assist (requires compatible sensor), man overboard functions and time to burn calculator
- Preloaded marine mapping with GPS navigation, maritime profiles and weather forecasts, including storm alerts, home port conditions and more
In particular, the original 2019 collection’s titanium and ceramic descriptions should not be reassigned to a purported later generation. Likewise, MARQ Carbon’s 2023 carbon-fiber construction is not evidence that a third generation launched. The official product history supports those as separate, specifically described collections.
What MARQ (Gen 2) is documented to include
Garmin announced five Gen 2 models—Athlete, Adventurer, Golfer, Captain, and Aviator—with functions that vary by model and intended activity. The announcement describes Grade-5 titanium cases, AMOLED touchscreen displays, and domed sapphire lenses. Garmin also stated battery life of up to 16 days. These are Garmin’s launch specifications and claims, not independently verified test results; the figure should not be applied to a different generation or assumed for every usage condition.
Rank #2
- Premium-crafted tool watch features an ultralight design with a 46 mm diamond-like carbon coated titanium bezel and brushed titanium case plus a high-performance rubber strap with Quick Fit mechanism
- Purpose-built with a domed sapphire lens and always-on display; includes fitness measurements with VO2 max and recovery time scales on the bezel, force yellow highlights and water resistance to 100 meters
- Cutting-edge performance and training features include more than 26 activity profiles plus advanced running and cycling dynamics (when paired with compatible sensor), performance metrics and training load
- Preloaded with topographic maps with Trend line popularity routing to help you find and follow the best running and cycling routes
- Smartwatch functionality, including streaming music, Garmin Pay contactless payments, estimated wrist-based heart rate, daily activity tracking, sleep monitoring and smart notifications compatible with Apple and Android devices
The 2019 collection announcement covered a different five-model lineup: Aviator, Driver, Captain, Expedition, and Athlete. It described titanium, sapphire crystal, and ceramic bezel inlay. Its battery figures belong to that original collection and should not be transferred to Gen 2 or to any unverified later model.
How to verify a claimed new MARQ model
- Look for a direct Garmin announcement. Check Garmin’s Gen 2 announcement and later company announcements for an explicit generation name, model identity, and launch details.
- Check the live product-family page. Garmin’s U.S. collection page currently uses the MARQ (Gen 2) label. Confirm the live page and the exact regional product listing before relying on a current designation.
- Match the listing to a named model and its specifications. A retailer or marketplace description alone does not establish a new generation. Verify the exact model, materials, regional version, seller, condition, and warranty with Garmin or an authorized retailer; current stock and prices are not established here.
- Check accessories against the exact watch. Garmin described QuickFit-compatible straps for the original collection. Before buying a replacement band, confirm the fit and width for the specific watch rather than assuming all MARQ models share one band specification.
Why “third generation” should not be inferred from MARQ Carbon
Garmin announced MARQ Carbon on October 12, 2023, describing three watches made with 130 layers of Fused Carbon Fiber. The announcement calls them a Carbon collection; it does not label them MARQ (Gen 3). A later release date, new material, or additional collection is not by itself proof of a new numbered generation.
Rank #3
- Premium-crafted tool watch features a 46 mm diamond-like carbon coated titanium case and bezel with ceramic inlay and a specialized tarmac and red scheme
- Purpose-built with a domed sapphire lens and always-on display plus a tachymeter bezel to help measure speed; hybrid titanium Quick Fit bracelet with red silicone links and butterfly clasp
- Preloaded with more than 250 racetracks around the world, with select tracks that you can display on a customized watch face
- Race Activity app measures your performance with auto lap, GPS-based speed and distance, lap splits and race history functions
- Smartwatch functionality, including streaming music, Garmin Pay contactless payments, estimated wrist-based heart rate, daily activity tracking, sleep monitoring and smart notifications compatible with Apple and Android devices
Garmin’s development article, “MARQ: A Luxury Tool Watch Years in the Making,” and its October 2024 press kit provide additional company background, but the official materials reviewed here still do not verify the claimed third-generation launch. The announcements and product pages establish what Garmin described; they are not independent performance tests.
